First of all, no news yet from the doctor. We know he has the x-ray but he hasn’t called with the results. The doctor had a similar injury in the past and felt that it probably wasn’t broken, but he sent Don over to a facility across the river to get the x-ray just to be sure. In the meantime, Don has a prescription for an anti-inflammatory med. He’s very sore today, but I reminded him that he drove a lot yesterday and stopped at the store – twice. He is now under a no physical activity order from yours truly.
I know he had a little bit of a high going yesterday just because he was outside doing something. I get it. I’ll update you as soon as we hear something
My longtime blogging friend Susan fell under the spell of my Blythes and proceeded to start her own doll family. At least two of them are from the same customizer who transformed my first girl, Sophie. We’ve been corresponding back and forth. Susan showed me a hat she crocheted for her girls and sent me one as well as a thank you. Isn’t that lovely? It arrived yesterday. Imogen gets to be today’s model.
So adorable! And that is my favorite shade of red. She also sent along a scarf. Thank you, Susan! As I said on Instagram, I am happy to be a Blythe enabler. Anytime.
I finished the other 500 piece puzzle – this one is of the Golden Gate Bridge:
Another relatively quick puzzle which was a lot of fun.
Next up, from my current favorite puzzle designer, “The World of the Tudors.” It arrived on Tuesday. I’ll be back to 1000 pieces.
I am heartsick about Ukraine. I try to stay aware to bear witness of a sort, but I have to be careful about how much I take in. I wish we could stop Putin. Frankly – from a strongly ‘no war’ girl – I wish we could go in there and get rid of the Russian army, though so many of them are just pawns who have been fed lies by Putin. Putin himself must be stopped – perhaps as he has stopped others who dared to disagree with him. I’ll let you fill in the lines on that one.
I know that so many countries are providing support, including ours, but Ukraine is essentially alone. NATO should have brought them in right away. But everyone is afraid of an increasingly delusional madman and his access to nuclear weapons. Both Don and I feel that Ukraine needs more help and troop support, but again, I completely understand the ramifications of that. We don’t want WWIII.
Yet again, we are being held hostage by a man ruled by his weak ego and shrinking appendage, by his now insane desire to dominate. (Sound familiar?)
Heartbreaking and so enraging.
Stay safe.
Happy Thursday.

I saw a snippet on the TV… a Russian soldier taken prisoner-of-war who said:
We didn’t even know what was happening, we just were sent here for tactical exercises in border country and then got thrown into a real war.
And others who asked: Mother, get me out of this…
Claudia says
Yes, it’s clear many of them were kept in the dark. How shameful!
Thanks, Petra.
Stay safe.

I’m right there with you on Ukraine.
We have something called My Chart that lets us access our lab and xray results online as well as Dr office visit summaries. I suppose it’s not the best idea for some, but as a retired RN I love to read all the results and know exactly what the report says. Plus I find out quicker than waiting on a call back from the Dr. Waiting is so hard. Praying Don heals quickly.
Take care
Linda says
Yes we also have “My Chart”
I think it is an excellent resource
Hopefully today Don will get the results
I have had three shoulder surgeries so I can understand his pain.
He needs to be pampered
Claudia says
No surgery required because there is no break, no problem with the rotator cuff.
Thanks, Linda.
Stay safe.
Claudia says
I know Don wouldn’t go for that. He likes to talk to his doctor directly. No break, no rotator cuff problem. Just a very intense injury which will take time to heal.
Thanks so much, Marilyn.
Stay safe.
Vicki says
Such good news on the one hand that it is NOT a cuff injury; no break. But, yes, with all that inflammation, the injury will take time to heal; he’s gonna have to baby it for awhile. There wasn’t any RX for physical therapy? Just rest and the anti-inflammatory drugs?
Vicki says
Want to hear something crazy? My husband, ever-exploring now in the outside world, went to the dollar store today because he wanted a certain-something, and he made a point of looking around in this new ‘mask-free’ life: None of the store employees had on masks, but every single customer in the store DID have on a mask. Complete opposite of the other evening when every customer in the CVS was maskless, and only the employees were masked. He went to the post office earlier today, first time at the counter in two years during public hours, and every person in line and also the post-office clerks were ALL masked. I just don’t know what to make of all this!
Claudia says
It sounds like a lot of people feel the way we do – it’s too early to let our guard down!
Vicki says
Oh, I went on to read other comments and you’re saying, for Don, that before there’s any thought of physical therapy, he can try the gentle exercises. That’s a can-do, right?!! Is he off the heat/ice thing?
Claudia says
Yes, though he stands in the shower for a long time, lets the steam do its thing, and slowly exercises his arm. He tends to do that twice a day.
xo
Claudia says
Not yet, but if we feel Don needs it, we’ll ask the doctor to recommend it officially.
Patricia Norton says
Yes, Ukrainian news is heartbreaking. I have been provoked to pray for the young family I know personally and I am in prayer about donating to Samaritan’s purse . My washer is not working properly so I was being frugal but how can I worry about a spin cycle when their entire world is in chaos ? I do not know what difference I can make but I must try by praying and donating what I can. I also moved my thermostat to a warmer setting in order to save more . We are a spoiled nation . I live in a warm climate but a few degrees warmer for a few weeks will allow me to help a bit more. Tell Don not to expect quick healing of that shoulder. My orthopedic doctor advised me the shoulder is the hardest to heal in his opinion. It was not very encouraging but I wanted the truth because I am not a patient person by nature, Knowing an approximate heal time gave me a goal so I would not re injure .
Claudia says
This will just take time. There is no break, no problems with rotator cuff. He slammed into the ground so the shoulder blade, etc, has been traumatized. Now he has to be patient and do the exercises the doctor gave him. We are very grateful there is no break.
Thanks, Patricia.
Stay safe.

dear Claudia/Don — hoping/praying Don heals/recovers quickly — ‘old’ bones, muscles, tendons seem to take longer time to heal–hope quickly for him, tho. such heart breaking for Ukraine residents — 1) putin will stop at nothing till the country is destroyed or surrender to him; 2) can our world survive him and his delusional ideas; 3) how can ANY sane person support/condone such insanity, looking specifically at tRump–the US dictator-want- to-be and those brainless supporters of his. all of us are in grave danger, I fear. stay safe/healthy. ps love Imogen’s outfit, very up to date
Claudia says
Thanks, Linda. The news from the doctor is good: there is no break, no problems with rotator cuff. He slammed into the ground so the shoulder blade, etc, has been traumatized. Now he has to be patient and do the exercises the doctor gave him. We are very grateful there is no break.
Stay safe!

I’m feeling your pain Don, only mine is in my back! I’m telling you this getting old is hard stuff. I hope you start to improve. I’m going to give my body some good rest for a few days! Love the new doll hat, so cute. I’m glad you have a friend in love with these dolls also. They are adorable. I’m on a vibrating heating pad and its the only thing I’ve found to give me so relief from the pain. I just can’t even with Ukraine. I am so sad and feel despair at times
Claudia says
Ooh, a vibrating heating pad! I should get one of those for my back.
News from the doctor: there is no break, no problems with rotator cuff. He slammed into the ground so the shoulder blade, etc, has been traumatized. Now he has to be patient and do the exercises the doctor gave him. We are very grateful.
Thanks, Linda.

My husband reminded me again this morning, as I cried over yet another human interest story from Ukraine on the TV reporting, that the subject of war and pain and sick old men (as in monster, murderer, madman) is going to bring me down too far if I’m not careful. To see the Ukrainians trying to stay/flee, in inadequate ‘bunkers’, with their babies and dogs and cats; fearful, in despair, grieving, and running out of formula and diapers and food and sanitary supplies, the sense of outrage of what is happening to these good, decent people, thru no fault of their own, is overwhelming. One piece I saw last night was of a young woman, clearly just in her 20s, English-speaking Ukrainian, and she’d lost friends due to the bombing; also her house; telling us to simply appreciate the gift of clean air and to cherish everything we have and hold dear. I dissolved; it’s such a helpless feeling to see people in such horrible, dangerous circumstances. One lady interviewed was in her 80s and she said to the reporter as she fled, that she knew due to her age it was unlikely she’d ever return to her homeland and she was inconsolable because she loves her country of Ukraine so much. I’ve come to admire Zelenskyy and was watching him this morning in that secret news conference he just had with international reporters and I can’t stand the fact that Putin is after him and he’s probably going to die. He’s a dad; he’s a husband; not just a leader of a country who wanted to remain free.
Claudia says
I pray he stays alive, my heart would break even more if we lost such an extraordinary man!
Stay safe, Vicki.

I watched some of Don’s videos today. I really like his music and the sound is very good! I’m glad he went to the doc and hope the XR shows nothing significant. I’ve had rotator cuff surgery and it knocks you to being one-armed for about eight weeks. Fingers crossed.
Cannot wait to see the Tudor puzzle!
And yes, I’m with you on Ukraine. No, we don’t want WWIII and it would happen, I think. But oh, I wish we could do so much more.
Claudia says
Thank so much for listening, Jeanie. Don: there is no break, no damage to the rotator cuff. All is okay on that end. He slammed into the ground, so there is a lot of trauma to his shoulder and shoulder blade. Now he has to take it easy and do the exercises the doctor gave him. If he has a lot of trouble, we’ll get a referral to a physical therapist.
Stay safe.
jeanie says
Whew. Such good news that there is no break or rotator damage. Not that it doesn’t hurt — but those are long term and complicated. I’m so relieved.

Did you know big old Daddy Vladdy (t*rumps pet name for him)
is actually 5 feet 6 inches tall?
Sure, no surprise,
we can all see how typically tiny he is, but you know what…….
He tells everyone he’s 5 foot 7!
Pretty much all you need to know, right there.
Claudia says
Yep. The Napoleon complex.
Thanks, Kath.
Stay safe.
Donnamae says
I just read all the comments…what a relief for you and Don. Hope the exercises help him to recover quickly. ;)
Claudia says
Thank you Donnamae!
We are relieved but there’s still a long road ahead.
Stay safe.

Sending healing thoughts and an abundance of patience to Don as he recovers.
My mom’s blood pressure suddenly went into the stratosphere and I’m pretty sure it’s too much Ukraine worry. She just feels so badly for the people uprooted and at risk. We’ve prescribed only one newcast per day for her.
My husband’s work took him to Ukraine for a visit in 1994 and our younger son made his sixth grade country report on it as a result. We’ve been looking at old photos and wondering how the geologists and translator he met there are doing. Kyiv is such a beautiful city. I’m hoping the bravery and courage of the Ukrainians result in a failed invasion. I’m heartened by the unanimity of most of the world community in condemning Putin at least.
Ukraine’s situation sure puts our problems in context. It’s been a wakeup call for all of us. Long may those sunflowers glow and that blue and yellow flag wave. And if karma bites Putin, it’s okay with me.
Claudia says
I hope karma bites him as soon as possible.
Thanks, Roxie.
Stay safe.

I’ve had a shoulder injure and it does take time and patience. Sleeping at night was very painful. One of the best things I did was fold a small throw pillow in half and rubber band together. I made a small pillow case for it to fit in. Sticking it under my armpit at night made my shoulder relax and give it support. It made sleeping so much easier. I am wishing him a speedy recovery.
Claudia says
Thank you, Janet.
Stay safe.
