Vintage Black Friday

November 20, 2009 at 1:02 am by Claudia

On this VBF, I thought I would share some old photos with you. I have tons of these – mainly because my Grandmother was so good about saving everything. The other day found me looking through the piano bench, where I knew I had some of these stashed.

Pardon my foot. It somehow snuck in my photo! Let’s look a bit closer at these – the top left hand corner is a Snap Shots album that is full of photos of my Grandmother and her friends. She must have been a teenager when these were taken and they show a side of her I didn’t get to see. On the right of the album is a photo of my Great-Grandmother…my Grandma adored her and she is so lovely in this shot. In the lower-left hand corner is a photo of my Great-Grandparents. They were a yound married couple in this one. And on the right is a photo of my Grandmother and her classmates outside their school in Canada.

This photo was inside the Snap Shots album. It is of Grandma with a dog – the family dog? I’m not sure. I only know I often hug my dogs the exact same way.

Sweet Jill sent a little treasure packet to some of us who participated in VBF. I was thrilled to receive it. Here it is:

Thank you, Jill! Have a wonderful day and stop by Jill’s blog, Gypsy Brocante, to visit everyone participating.

    Oh Claudia…
Thank you for sharing your beautiful family photos. I so love to look through the old family albumns when I go home to visit Moma and Daddy.

The old pictures were so much more alive than the posed ones today. We have been commercialized.

Your VBF bag was a wonderful gift. I really love the Bingo cards. Aren’t they just the best?

Thanks for sharing today sweetie. Please stop by and say hi. I love it when you do. Country hugs…Sherry

Hi Claudia, love the vintage photos and all. That era seems to draw me in and really speaks to my inner era-gone-by-ness. I don’t have that kind of memorabilia (sorry about the spelling…) from my family. The lack makes one feel rather drifty and unrooted, and longing for a strong, family culture or past to lean on. It’s kind of like having an old homestead to go back to. I can’t think of the right words, but do you know what I mean?

I know I’ve been MIA. I’m still in the midst of the moving game. Found a place in Tarpons Springs, and will move out of David’s parents on Dec. 15. AFA Blogging – haven’t been doing that much as of late. Too much displaced life to wade through to be at a computer for any length of time.

Come visit me, I posted a long, chatty, self-indulgent missive that really helped me sort out and validate my current situation and what I’ve been doing. Sometimes I just need to write it down to detangle this oft-knotted muddle in my head.

What great photos! The one of the school and the oval look like scenes from ‘Avonlea’ – perhaps I was reminded of the show when you mentioned Canada. Have a great weekend!

Too funny that you store them in your piano bench. Ours is full of vintage sheet music from my Nanny along with some old photos too.

Hey there. You have photos posted too, except yours are of family. That is so cool! My mom has one large one of my grandfather and his family and that’s it. Love the photo of your great grandparents – her dress is so pretty.

That was nice of Jill to send you a little something. Love the neat treasures she included.

I love that you treasure the items from your ancestors, Claudia. How very special they all are!

I can definitely see the family resemblance in the last photo of your Grandma! If I squint a bit while looking at it, I can totally imagine it being you with Scout on the grounds of MHC! Like grandma, like granddaughter… the doggie love has certainly been passed down through the generations!… Donna

I love collecting old photos and although I don’t know the people, I often wonder what their life was like.

    Hi Claudia,
I love this post with the old family photos. I bet that is a family dog, the way she’s holding it with such a loving smile. Hey, those look like comfy socks you have on there ;)

Have a good Thanksgiving ~ hope you find some yummy veggie fare. My hubbies a veg-head too and we usually make two different stuffings. He’s got a fantastic Jamie Oliver recipe he’s making that’s fantastic this year – do you eat cheese?

This is kind of a crazy comment – but it comes from the heart!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
