A Walk in the Park

April 13, 2012 at 7:30 am by Claudia

I got out of rehearsal a little early yesterday. Happily, I had packed my camera in my tote so I took a detour on my way home. There is a beautiful park that runs through downtown Hartford. Come along for a little walking tour.

The arch was erected as a memorial to those lost in the Civil War. There are statues like the one of the soldier on all four sides. It’s truly beautiful. The building in the above photo is the State Capitol. All the flowering trees are in bloom and I’ll share some of the natural beauty with you in the next post.

Hi Claudia! Those are wonderful pictures of Bushnell Park and the Civil War Memorial. That is the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Memorial Arch and you can find an excellent description of it (including pictures you can enlarge to see the figures depicted on the friezes) at CTMonuments.net–then search under the civil war tab for Hartford Memorial Arch. It was restored in the late 80s I think. Looking forward to more of your pictures from my capital city! Linda

    Claudia,

Been there so many times. My late husband worked there and then later in New London. A big treat was a trip to G. Fox for shopping. It is no longer in business. The park is beautiful Thanks for sharing the pictures.

I used to go through Hartford quite often when I lived in New England – plenty of insurance company buildings but I must have missed the park unfortunately. Enjoying this visit via your camera – a park in Spring time is always a wonderful place to spend an hour.

Oh Claudia, you are so right, what a beautiful day you had! Thanks so much for sharing it. I loved that you visited me and yes….I did say out loud to my computer: “Claudia!!” I promise you, I do that every time and then I think what a weirdo I must be…hahaha.

I loved you sharing your comment. Oh, I just know how you feel and I agree with everything you said and feel. I KNEW there was someone out there who would get it. It is so draining, but at the same time, it is freeing to know we don’t have be held captive to it – or at least I thought for the longest time that I ‘must” do this or I “should be doing” that in order to keep up or keep going. Then one day, quite literally, I thought: “going where?” And my breaks went on and I thought….”I’m not even sure I LIKE where I am headed….!”

So, that was many months ago and this “funk” slowly turned into a revelation revolution …fighting to regain some harmony that I define for myself.

So glad you wrote. I think of you more than you know.

    Love
    Elizabeth

Hi Claudia, I’ve never been to Harford so enjoy seeing it through your lens. GREAT news that you are working on a new production, although tough you have to be away from home. I hope it goes well and is a huge success for all concerned.

    Hey Girlfriend,

What a beautiful walk! I love that arch, and it’s so green and pretty. You are very blessed to be able to have such experiences. The mallard duck reminds me of one we had as a pet, while I was growing up. One of my brothers had found an egg at a local park, and we ended up bringing it home. We built an incubator, and we turned the egg all the time until it hatched and “voila” we had a baby duck. We named him “Daffy” and we loved playing with him up until the time we were moving and he ended up at a local farm. Great memories!

    Hugs,
    Meri

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
