I have a few hours free this morning (after getting up at 4:15 am yesterday and not getting home until 8 pm yesterday) because we have two late shoots in a row. I’ll be working until midnight tonight and tomorrow. This topsy-turvy schedule!
I had a nice weekend, just laying low, dropping off laundry at the laundromat, taking a long walk around the neighborhood on Sunday. At the same time, the NYC Marathon route was right at the end of my block, so I heard cheering and helicopters all day long – very exciting!
The brownstones in this neighborhood are beautiful. I never get tired of seeing them.
Brooklyn, especially in this area, is very lively – full of young and old people, and lots of kids. I walked down 7th Avenue, which has a lot of shops, and I counted four toy stores. One of them carried a whole bunch of New Yorker jigsaw puzzles! I picked up a few things that I needed, but mostly enjoyed the walk.
Also on the walk was a Barnes & Noble, but even better, a lovely book store called Community Bookstore. It reminded me of Oblong Books back home, with a great selection of fiction and non-fiction. Nicely curated.
Yesterday at 6:30 am in Greenwich Village. I was standing in line for my first Covid test of the week. I get three of them.
I love this particular section of Greenwich Village and I took a walk at lunchtime. This is one of my favorite bookshops in NYC – Three Lives & Co. They are in their temporary space for another 6 months as they wait for the building they’ve always been in to be remodeled. It’s still a lovely shop, with a wonderful energy, but I must admit, I miss the corner location with the old wooden floors and nooks and crannies. I heard an employee say they should be back in the original shop in the spring.
We finished filming at about 6:45 pm and I got home at 8.
Oh, and I met Sally Field yesterday. She dropped by the set to say hello.
She’s pretty darned cool.
The girls.
One of the nicest parts of my day off on Sunday was playing with my dolls. I dressed them in fresh clothing, brushed their hair, and posed them for some pictures.
Incredibly calming and a wonderful respite from the insane schedule of 14+ hour days.
I recommend it highly.
Stay safe.
Happy Tuesday.
Claudia, Thank you for sharing your photos. The brownstones are so beautiful and I love the autumn decorations on the stoop! Whenever I see these lovely neighborhoods I always imagine what life must be like inside. Maybe in another life I did know. Your schedule sounds grueling, but also exciting. Get lots of rest and take care. SherryB
You’re very welcome, Sherry! I like sharing what I see as I live this temporary life in Brooklyn. Autumn is a great time to be here.

Thank you for sharing the beauty of the area with us! I love brownstones and the architecture of the area. Sally Field is such a wonderful actress. You are so fortunate to have met her. What an amazing experience!
It is an amazing experience, Carol. Very tired, but profoundly grateful.

What a nice surprise to see your post this morning!
It’s fun to get a little idea of life in a big city. It sounds like you have settled in a bit more.
Take care, be safe.
Thanks so much, Marilyn.

What a fabulous photo shoot you had! I love those classic brownstones and the bookstores are to die for! So nice to see small, indie bookstores rather than the big chains. They’ll certainly do, but aren’t nearly so wonderful! I’m glad you had some “me” time to walk and enjoy. And now, back to it!
Thank you, Jeanie.

The photos of the brownstones are gorgeous. I love older streets like that. I think one of the reasons I love Paris so much! I’m glad you had some relaxing time and time to explore. How fun to meet Sally Fields, I’m a fan! Hugs!
Thank you, Linda.

Your stroll around the hood gave us a beautiful perspective of where you are living. And to meet Sally Field? What fun!
I’m sure you are savoring every minute of your adventure. Take care! ;)
Thank you, Donnamae.

If I remember correctly, you have about a month left of filming. Sounds like you are adapting quite well!! Meeting Sally Field. Wow. The pictures are just beautiful. Love the sun being dappled through the trees on the facade of the buildings. So pretty! Glad you were able to get out and about, and so nice to see a post today. I hope the rest of your week goes well!! Take care.
Thank you, Chris.

Thank you for sharing your walk, Claudia! I love seeing all the shops and those beautiful brownstones. My great grandfather had a grocery store in NYC, and my grandmother told me stories of her years growing up there. My aunt was in acting and spent a lot of time there in the late 60s, early 70s. We were supposed to make a trip there together, but it never happened. She passed away last year. Just one of those lessons, to seize the moment.
Yes, indeed. Seize the moment!
Stay safe, Karen.
My son did the marathon there for years
I loved going and watching
He started doing IROnman competitions instead running same amount but biking and swimming also. He did ten of those. I traveled to the ones in this country. Loved NYC
Glad u r getting out
Thanks, Brenda.

hej!
thanks for taking time to share photos and an update. good to hear that you’re acclimating, have had some time to play and rest in various ways.
nice that you and sally field could meet each other. your experience brought out a fun memory for me … about fifteen years ago, my mother, sister and i spent a few days in new york city, were getting lunch at a casual restaurant (in the east village, i think) and in walked olympia dukakis. she was wearing leopard-print sweatpants, black top and wind-blown hair, stood near the door and someone handed her a brown paper bag (presumably containing her lunch). we all loved her in movies we saw together … “steel magnolias”, “moonstruck” and “mr. holland’s opus” … oh and richard dreyfus singing that song … sob)!
hope you are sleeping better and have a good day tomorrow.
kathy
Don worked with Olympia’s brother, Apollo.
Stay safe, Kathy.
How I love this tour! The beautiful photos. Have always wanted to see these places in NYC/Manhattan/etc. I’m rarely around that kind of vintage/antiquity ‘way out (in the ‘newer’) West; like just the door frames and doors alone in the NYC shops, or the fine details of the brownstones; the windows. It’s all luxe to me and so intriguing. Thank you much, Claudia, for taking the time to share with your readers. It’s nice to see your temporary surroundings.
You’re welcome, Vicki!

I am so enjoying seeing my city through your eyes :)
I remember those overloaded days very very well…not sure I could go back to them at the moment…it does sound as if you have found a system of finding peaceful time which works well for you, though, yay for that! I’m happy for you that you are here at such a lovely and cozy time of year, and able to stroll through the neighborhoods somewhat. I definitely share your love for gorgeous brownstones!
I wish there was a way to have a socially distant walk, but alas we are now on opposite ends of the time spectrum these days.
Cyber hug to you from way uptown <3
I definitely think this experience is a ‘one and done’ kind of thing. I couldn’t handle this schedule again – I can barely handle it now!
Thanks, Naomi!

Love, love these photos!
