I took a walk on my day off. It was dark and cloudy all day long, with the threat of rain, but I needed to get outside and do something. I decided to explore the streets around the State Capitol. (All photos taken with my iPhone.)
First stop: the pond, where there it was Rest Time for the ducks. There are 19 of them in this photo. Trust me. One is hard to see because he’s behind another duck. There were also 4 ducks resting on the fountain in the middle of the pond.
The rear of the Capitol. Such a gorgeous, gorgeous building.
Outside the Bushnell Center, Hartford’s big performing arts venue.
A statue of Columbus.
The State of Connecticut Supreme Court building.
Roses
Another statue – this one of Lafayette.
Over the weekend, I was walking home from rehearsal, it would have been around 7 pm or so, and I saw this:
The reflections from the windows on a building across the street. It reminds me of strands of DNA and the double helix. I really love this!
By the way, you know how much I’m loving House of Cards on Netflix, right? The other day I did a status update on my personal Facebook page about that very thing. And I got a message back from a former student telling me she has a recurring role on the upcoming Season Two of House of Cards. She said she thought I would be proud of her. I am. I love seeing my students succeed on the stage, on television, on film and behind the camera. I’ve got former students working in all aspects of the performing arts and that, my friends, makes me smile.
I’m more than a bit tired. Rehearsals days are long and I don’t get home until 7:30 or so. Yesterday, we had run-throughs of both plays. Since I have to take notes on what I’m hearing and not hearing, which involves lots of concentration and writing while trying to keep up with the dialogue and then re-writing everything so that the notes are clear and understandable for the actors, I feel wiped out at the end of the day. More today. And tomorrow. Then we move onstage on Friday.
What are you up to? Feel free to sends a masseuse my way.
Happy Wednesday.

The shadow on the building is so cool. Good reason to always have a camera around. Hope things get easier soon, so you can rest.
Claudia says
Thankful for camera phones, Dawn! I’ve got a more restful day coming up on Friday. Just have to hang in there until then.

Hi Claudia, It’s been years since I was in Hartford as well…really enjoyed your tour. I love the mermaid and the shadow pic of the building is awesome. It really does look like strands of DNA. So cool. A massage sounds in order! Oh, and so cool that one of your former students will be in the 2nd season of House of Cards — congratulations!
PS Am running to Trader Joes at lunch…dark marshmallows will be picked up this time – lol
Claudia says
Yay for dark chocolate marshmallows!

I’d send you my friend who is an incredible massage therapist but not sure how to pack her up! Your tired sounds like a good kind of tired but exhausting at the same time. Take it easy when you can.
Thanks for the great pictures. I love the shot of the roses and the “dna” strand. Neat!
Today, I’m waiting for my doctor to call with my test results. Anxious, so I’m off to paint our preschool with a group of friends. Fingers crossed whatever is going on in my body is easy to manage. Thankful I’ll be with friends when my doctor calls.
Have a great day!
Claudia says
Chy, I will be keeping you in my thoughts and sending positive healing energy your way, my friend.xp

You take such great pics. The way you caught the sun reflecting – you had to be there at just the right time. The ducks don’t get far from the water do they. They are cute. I like ducks. Baby ducks do not have an easy time of it, but they don’t seem to notice. I’ve seen baby ducks all lined up following their mom and get hit by a gust of wind. They roll away like little tumble weeds, and just get back up, shake their heads and run back to mom and line up and continue like nothing happened. They were next to a very busy road. Thank goodness the wind blew them away from the road, if the wind had been blowing the other way they would have been blown into the traffic. They waddled along just a few feet from all the traffic, getting blown around every few minutes by a wind gust. Sometimes they would roll as much as 3 to 4 feet away when the wind hit them. Pop back up. Line back up quickly. And continue along their way. I couldn’t stop to watch cause the traffic was about bumper to bumper , so I would pull in the next available parking lot and watch for them to see if they were making it. Sure enough here they came, and there they go, and there I went to find the next view spot. They made pretty good time, once they passed me as traffic inched along. At 2 main cross roads the cars stayed at a stop after the light turned green to let the little duck family pass. They went that way for half a mile to a park and then down the little hill to the pond. As for as I could tell the mom got all 8 baby ducks to the little park alive. They looked fine. I however was in need of a cup of tea to relax. What with the traffic, the tumbling around in the wind, the hot pavement on them little webbed feet, the horns honking at the ducks, the dogs barking from the cars as they passed them….. I was wore to a frazzle and my nerves were shot. Mamma ducks must have nerves of steel cause she kept her coarse strait and did not flinch through it all.

I would have been a mess, worrying about those ducks, Linda! I’ve actually stopped my car and stood out in the middle of the road to keep other motorists from injuring a family of Canadian Geese walking across the road. That kind of thing worries me so much! Thank goodness they made it!

I walk by that building a lot at that time and I’ve never seen that reflection. Maybe a one time only little miracle?
