We had Fun at Rhinebeck

October 17, 2009 at 4:54 pm by Claudia

This morning found my sister and I rising at 6:15 in order to get out the door and on our way to Rhinebeck (The New York Sheep and Wool Festival) by 7:30. We wanted to beat the crowds and hopefully avoid the predicted rain this afternoon. It has been so, so cold the whole time my sister has been here! You remember, she hails from Florida? Well, we have been in the midst of an unseasonable cold snap – it was snowing the day I picked her up from the airport! Today was cold and windy.

We got there bright and early and had a great time, as always. I was forced to buy some gloves because my hands were so cold! Here are some photos of the day.

Yarn everywhere, hand spun, hand dyed – gorgeous!
Llamas, Alpacas, Lambs…we can’t get enough of these guys.

The online knitting community, Ravelry, had a noon meet-up and the crowd just got bigger and bigger.
This is a hugely popular event.

In the midst of spectacular Autumn colors.

Here is my beautiful sister, Meredith, modeling the coat she knitted from Noro yarn. Isn’t it gorgeous? Believe me, she received many compliments on it as we walked through the Festival. She is such a talented knitter.

We are having a wonderful time – it goes by too fast, though. She leaves tomorrow morning. That makes me sad. Scout and Riley are sad, too – they adore her. In the next post, I will share some lovely things she made for me.

Yeah!!! It all looks so wonderful!
And yes, Meredith is beautiful in her wonderful Noro coat. The colors are fantastic. I bet she never tired of all the compliments. I know I wouldn’t ;-)
It looks chilly but luckily dry. We’ve had rain for 2 days straight.
Thanks for the great photos and festival re-cap. Enjoy your last evening together.

Looks like you girls had a good time. I love your sweet photo of the sheep. Such a sweet face!

Your sister’s coat is beautiful. I bet she was glad she had it along. I’ll be in Wisconsin next week and it’s 34º there and a comfortable 70º here. Hmmmmm. Home Mum has an extra jacket for me!

Looking forward to your next visit. xoxo

Hi Claudia, your sister looks great in her coat. I can’t believe she made it. I have no talent when it comes to needlework of any kind. The colors of the yarns are beautiful!

Wow, I’ll say she’s talented!! Love the coat and the colors – and it looks VERY warm! I hear you on the unseasonably COLD weather! We’re having it here in New England as well. Like you, I can’t get enough of those cute little alpacas and llamas. I’m glad you and your sister had such a lovely visit, even if it was too short :)… Donna

Your post made me tear up! How sweet to have your sister come to visit. Great coat…what a neat event and I can just picture the scenery being just as beautiful as that lovely tree in your photo.

Thank you for your wonderful, encouraging words today about my blog. I’m going to try and figure out how to combine the two blogs. This could take some time though!

    Claudia,
I arrived looking for that lovely blue pottery collection and luckily, you kept the photo for your awards page…(sigh of relief..:D )

I adore the outing you had with your lovely sister. And yes, I think her coat is amazing! The photo of the tree is so stunning with it’s vivid burst of orange.

It’s so good to be back. I missed your sweet face with those fantastic glasses!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
