I’ve been awake since 5 am. Whenever I wake up during the night here in the hotel, I automatically check to see where Scout is. Most of the night she was by the side of the bed, but she wasn’t there at 5. So I turned on the light and saw her sleeping out in the living room. Okay. Back to sleep.
But no. The alarm went off at 5:15, just as I was drifting off to sleep.
Shouldn’t Housekeeping automatically check alarm clocks when someone has just checked out?
It didn’t make me a happy camper.
We moved rooms yesterday, right after my rehearsal ended. I did it rather efficiently, I must say, packing the hotel cart, rolling it out the door, onto the elevator, down three floors, down the hall and into the new room. Twice. Then Ms. Scout joined me. She was very excited, but I told her not to get her hopes up – we weren’t going home just yet.
She’s a bit better, still anxious, but so exhausted from the past two days that she’s sleeping more. The new room – it’s actually a suite – is the one I’ve been in twice before. It’s much more spacious. The other room was rather small, like a very small studio apartment, and there was a post in the middle of the ‘entrance’ that was annoying. This is one of the larger suites, with a separate bedroom. Scout gets restless during the night and she likes to move around, so this space will allow her to roam to her heart’s content.
I brought the quilt I made for our now-gone-bed from home. This bed normally has a duvet and you know I don’t like duvets. Plus, the quilt just makes things cheerier. That red quilt is the quilt that is usually in front of my blogging chair. Scoutie uses it when she’s in the tunnel. Speaking of beds, I now truly realize how incredible our new bed is. This bed is giving me a backache.
There’s a sofa and a chair. And that is Scout’s other quilt, which is usually in front of the loveseat in the living room.
Desk and television. There’s a television in the bedroom, too.
Little kitchenette, with a refrigerator (hidden on the left) a dishwasher, two burners, but no oven, unfortunately. I brought two non-slip mats from home so that Scout can have some traction on the vinyl floor.
Do you see that look in her eyes? Pupils dilated? That’s the look I’ve seen rather consistently for the past two days.
But she loves the park, thank goodness. She’s already been there once this morning and I’ll take her again, I’m sure. I have a long day of rehearsal and I’ll have to run back to the hotel on the lunch break to check in on her.
Yikes, I am tired. And if I’m tired, Scout must be absolutely exhausted. Hopefully, she’ll sleep a lot while I’m gone today.
Happy Saturday.

Hoping you both get a good nights rest tonight and that things settle down some. It’s not a bad space but I know you will have to move again before this adventure is over. Hugs!!!

Thanks, Linda. Scout is doing better today.

It looks pretty nice for a hotel Claudia..I’m glad Scout has more room to move around and glad to see you brought her quilts from home to make her comfy..Here’s hoping you both have a good day and some quality rest tonight..
Claudia says
It’s a very nice hotel, Nancy. Very comfortable.
Susie says
Claudia, Hope you and Scout can both rest tonight. I hate when I am wore out on vacation, or when I absolutely need to be alert. Blessings for some peace. xoxo,Susie

Made it through the day and now we’re chilling out in the living room.

It looks nice, sorry to hear you and Scout are not getting enough rest, poor Scoutie you can see that she is not feeling at home, i hope things will get better soon. hugs for you both!
Claudia says
She’s doing better today. Now, she tries to get me to go to the park all of the time.
Donnamae says
I’m sure having two rooms will be better for Scout. She does have a little crazed look..is that a new thing…or normal behavior? I don’t think housekeeping does check alarm clocks…at least that’s been my experience. Hopefully you can get some decent sleep tonite! ;)
Claudia says
No, it’s not a new thing. She’s always been that way when she gets hyped up or anxious or has to go to the Vet.
Janet in Rochester says
What a good momma, bringing along all Scoutie’s comfort items. And yes, ma’am, Housekeeping should indeed check to see that alarm clocks are turned off when a guest checks out. For fun, I read reviews on TripAdvisor for the top hotels in cities all over the world. By now, I’ve read enough to sink a battleship and must admit I’ve never once seen anyone complain about being awakened at 5 am by errant alarm clocks at the Four Seasons or Ritz-Carlton. PS – is it possible that Scout’s eyes are dilated due to the light in your suite? Seems brighter there than at home, where the light seems nicely-diffused by your window treatments and trees etc. Just an idea. Hope you both get a good zonked-out night’s rest.
Claudia says
No. I know my girl – she gets that way when she’s hyper or anxious. Or overstimulated. She’s always been that way.
Chris k in Wisconsin says
I would bet that soon she will find her spot and be able to rest. When you move over to the apt. will it be into rooms she knows? I don’t know if that even matters as it has been awhile since she was there. I just know you said that the proximity to the park, etc. is more convenient for her walks. She is being a real trooper through this new adventure. Such a sweetheart. Here’s to better sleep tonight for both of you!!
Claudia says
No, we’ll be in a different apartment than last time and I bet she wouldn’t remember them anyway. She is a good girl – she’s doing better today.
Just Cats says
She’s at that age where she is more of a worry now. Change does not go over well with our Kane, either. I find I spend much more time now keeping him comfortable and checking on him. He, too, still loves his walks. :)
Claudia says
Yes, I worry about her and try and make her as comfortable as possible.
Linda P. says
I hope Scout soon adjusts.
Claudia says
She’s doing better today, Linda.
Trudy Mintun says
Poor Scout, and poor you. Trying to work on little sleep is always difficult, and add in worry about Scout. My heart aches for you both, You haven’t said, but does Scout go to the theater with you?
Claudia says
No. She’s just get antsy and I can’t be distracter by her. Plus, it’s several blocks from the hotel, too long a walk.
janey says
I wonder if she smells all those other people that used the room before you as well as the cleaning staff and that is what makes her so excited. I know I would have that problem if I were to take my cat into a hotel. She loves to sit on the window sill and sniff out all the other people and creatures, but from the safety of her house where none of them can get her.
Claudia says
She seems a bit calmer in this room, whether it’s because she’s tired and she’s getting used to the hotel or maybe this room has less troublesome smells, I don’t know.
Meredith says
Poor Scoutie, adventures are exhausting.
Love Mere
Claudia says
Yes they are. For both of us!
