What I Did This Weekend

March 14, 2011 at 11:46 am by Claudia

:: Clearly, Scout is telling me she needs a sleeping mask. Message received, your highness.

:: Saturday found me fluffing the studio. The vintage spools that I found at Tinsel Trading were just begging for some lace. I forgot to show you the little green velvet pincushion that I also bought at Tinsel Trading. Sweet, isn’t it?

I found that old painted trim at The Habitat for Humanity Re-Store.  I love old wooden architectural pieces. This one with its many layers of paint is beautiful.

:: I spent part of Saturday and Sunday obsessing about this crochet pattern:

I couldn’t figure out the directions for the longest time! I kept ripping it out and starting over. Never say die is my motto. My mom has always called me stubborn (that’s the pot calling the kettle black, by the way.) She’s right. I finally got it last night. I’m going to make more. Any ideas as to what I can create with these?

:: We also watched 127 Hours. For a girl with claustrophobia, this movie pushed all my buttons. Perhaps not the best thing to watch right before bedtime. And we watched classic Hitchcock: Strangers on a Train. Hitchcock was a genius. It was more frightening and edge-of-your-seat than any contemporary movie filled with expensive special effects. And oh, how I love old black and white movies!

:: By request, my sister Meredith has written a fabulous post that details how to make those Japanese Crochet Flowers. Just click on this link.

:: Tomorrow I fly to Chicago. First I take the bus to Manhattan (90 minutes) then I take the shuttle to LaGuardia (45 minutes) then I fly to Chicago (over 2 hours.) Then I take a cab to the hotel. I check in at the hotel, go to the theater to do some vocal work, watch an evening performance, write up my notes and go to bed! Wednesday, I snatch a couple of hours with my best friend, Laural, then on to afternoon rehearsal, evening performance, more notes. Thursday: up very, very early to catch a cab to O’Hare, fly to LaGuardia, take the shuttle bus and then catch the bus to my neck of the woods.  Yikes.

:: Japan is constantly in my thoughts. Such devastation is incomprehensible and heartbreaking.

I probably won’t be blogging until I get back. Have a wonderful week.

I love old wooden spools, I so wish they still made them. I had no idea Habitat had a re-store, that would be the perfect place to pick up some nifty architecture.

I think your crochet looks like pinwheels… as for what to do with them. Starch then or use some stiffing liquid, add some long wooden dowels, pop then in a vase.

Sounds like you had a good relaxing weekend. I hope your days in Chicago are easy and uneventful.

I so hope you are feeling better and do not take a step back as you travel, keep washing those hands.

Isn’t it nice when the little treasures you purchase all fit in so perfectly. I adore that chippy bit, great colors and history. Have a safe trip.

Safe travels and enjoy your adventure. Your spools definitely wanted the lace. The blue wood piece is fabulous. I await your return and updates. Maybe after a short nap with all of the traveling and connections. :o)

I sort of like the idea of using the crocheted flowers as appliques on a pillow. You could chain stitch stems and crochet leaves.

Lovely treasures. I actuall did a little shopping lately too, but haven’t taken photos yet.

I hope you have a safe journey Claudia, and enjoy the time with your friend.

Japan is in everyone’s thoughts. It seems the world only starts to recover from one disaster, when along comes another. It certainly does lend perspective to the truly valuable things in life. My heart goes out to them all.

My first thought when I read your travel schedule was- lots of reading time- that’s what I love about public transportation- my second thought was- how tiring!

I see you’re reading a Michael Connelly novel- is it a new Harry Bosch? I’ve read most of Connelly-really liked The Lincoln Lawyer but I just don’t think I’m going to like the movie.

    Claudia,
I am watching Strangers on a Train right now… always mesmerized for certain here too… I think it’s my #3 movie. (Casablanca, Sunset Boulevard.)
Your itinerary takes my breath away, safe journey, my friend.
You’re never far from my thoughts even though I’ve been terrible at checking in. Zeke sleeps with that beautiful red heart. Love to you and Scout (what a ham bone, what we call Zeke here too).

Looks like a good weekend. Hope you got to recharge your batteries before that upcoming trip!
Why don’t you make a whole bunch of those flowers and decorate the front of a pillow with it. I have seen a lot with those twisty fabric flowers, I think it would look awesome with crochet flowers too.

    Hi Claudia dear,

Just checking up on your doings. Yes, isn’t the Habitat for Humanity ReStore awesome? Without that place I would have just ho-hum windows in my laundry room and garden shed. Also got great antique sliding pocket doors, lighting, hardware, etc. for pennies on the dollar.

    love to you,

No 127 HOURS for me! Enclosed spaces have always been a problem for me! Oh! I loved STRANGER ON A TRAIN! You’re so right about Hitchcock; he was the master!

Also…Thanks for commenting on my picture uploading problem yesterday…I don’t know what the issue was but it seems Blogger is working well today. I appreciate your help!

Have a safe trip – your job seems to send you to some exciting places to do exciting things!

I don’t think I can watch 127 Hours due to the storyline as miraculous as it is. I watched The Hurt Locker right before bed too. Didn’t get to sleep for quite some time…

Oh! I just love the pic of Scout. I love to take naps and when I do, my dog sticks his head but not his body under the bed where it is dark. You’ll have to tell your hubby that I have “Say it Twice” stuck in my head. My cd finally arrived and I love that song!!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
