When It Snows, It Pours

February 26, 2023 at 9:21 am by Claudia

Careful what you wish for.

We got about an inch of snow yesterday. No big deal. But we’re due for 5-8 inches Monday night into Tuesday. The problem is that we are sweating an oil delivery. Don says we can make it until tomorrow (the heat is turned way down) but with the storm on the way, we need it delivered tomorrow. We can’t wait until Tuesday, which would be problematic anyway, as that will be the day for clean up, aka shoveling and snow blowing. He’s going to call today and leave an “Urgent!” message.

To top it all off, during our second load of laundry yesterday, water started flowing from under the washer. We tried again. Same thing. Crap, crap, crap. I called and someone is coming out tomorrow to diagnose the problem. Our washer and dryer is in a closet in the bathroom. It’s a narrow stacked combination of washer/dryer made by Whirlpool. It’s almost 18 years old. The last time a technician was here he said to do whatever we could to repair it in the future because the newer models aren’t as good. But, in doing a little research yesterday, I discovered that Whirlpool doesn’t make this model any longer. Anyway, I’m very stressed about repair costs and/or possibly having to replace the unit. Let’s see: $400+ for oil and $1200+ for a new washer and dryer. For us, that’s a big chunk of money.

When it rains, it pours. Or, when it snows, it pours.

So we’re holding our breath for the next 36 hours or so.

Also, the closet that contains the unit is narrow, just inside the main door to the bathroom to the left. We have to remove two doors to get the unit in and out as well as some molding and even then, it’s a giant pain in the tush.

I can feel my stress level rising as I write this.

This too shall pass.

I was hoping my book would come in at the library yesterday, but the roads were slippery and I don’t think the county-wide delivery van was making any deliveries. Ah well. Highly doubtful they’re working today and the library is closed tomorrow and then there’s the storm on the way…looks like I’m going to have to wait until Wednesday, at least.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

I’m holding my breath along with you, Claudia. The most important thing is the oil, as you know. You have to stay warm. Sure hope the flooded washer will be a small fix. 18 years is a long time for a washer but hopefully it can be fixed. Always something to upset the tranquility of a Sunday. Fingers crossed you get the oil delivered tomorrow and the repairperson can fix the washer. Stay calm. Hugs, Elaine

I’m so sorry Claudia. My mother always used to say trouble comes in 3s. It does seem that way sometimes. Hoping it all works out and both problems are solved tomorrow.
    Take care and stay warm

Claudia, I’m sorry you two are having such a stressful weekend. We’ve not had very good weather info ourselves. We have noticed, however, my husband does an incredible job at creating serious snow as every day he has an appointment we wake up to at least 3 inches of new snow! See! You made an appointment as well! We have a washer/dryer stackable. It’s a work horse and we adore it. Ours spewed water out the bottom as well. It was a plugged motor. Hopefully, it will be an easy fix for you. Wishing both a lovely Sunday.

I’d like to tell you not to worry, but I don’t think that would do much good. So fingers crossed your oil will be delivered tomorrow, and that your washer leak is minor, and can be easily fixed with minimal dollars. Hoping all goes well. Enjoy your day…in spite of it all! ;)

My best friend from birth lost her sister today. Stroke
Out of ten siblings three are left
She has lost her husband, her brother suddenly, one of her favorite nephews, and now sister in less than three years.
    We are all close.
Good luck with oil and appliances.

Oh, Claudia! When it rains or snows, it always pours down, doesn’t it?? I saw your query yesterday, and forgot to respond. I DID come home on Thursday. So very good to be home!! We have had a couple of bumps, but they have smoothed out rather quickly. One day at a time is all we can do!!

Here is hoping the oil is delivered and the washing machine fix is an easy one. Enjoy your snow if you get any. We are supposed to have heavy rain tomorrow. Crazy weather!! Take care.

So glad you’re home! Yes, take it a day at a time, my friend.

Oil was delivered right after the technician left. Easy repair. We don’t have to buy a new machine!

      Stay safe.

Fingers crossed the oil is delivered by tomorrow! I’m holding my breath about this storm prediction. The forecasts have not been very accurate this winter.
If there is a laundromat near you that might ease some of the stress. It’s a bit annoying but I used one for a quite while when we were having trouble getting our septic field being redone ($$$) and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I read my book or took a walk while waiting. We also had a porta potty. Fun fun (eye roll). Hopefully your guy will be able to do some repairman magic. Good luck and stay safe tomorrow. xo Betsy

Home ownership is a privilege but it comes with a price. It IS a lot of stress when there’s a long to-do list of things that need to be attended to; but, for the moment, my big wish is that you get your oil soonest although I’m sure you have a good plan if it doesn’t happen (I know you drip water so the pipes don’t freeze, but I just don’t want YOU TWO to freeze). All we can talk about in Southern Calif is our spate of unusual snow but of course we’re ‘nothing’ compared to everybody else in other parts of the country who get snow all the time. Keeping all fingers crossed that everything goes well for you and Don in these coming days. Oh man do I feel for you, Claudia; sorry you’re having to have these worries.

Hope the Crombie arrives soon and you can get it. She’s wonderful in every way. Boy, you’re right about raining and pouring. Let’s hope a repair is possible for the washer. They don’t make ’em like they used to. 18 years is a good run.

I don’t think it will arrive until Wednesday at the earliest. We’ll be digging out from the snow on Tuesday.

      Stay safe!

Oh. My. Gosh. It always seems like things happen like this. All at once. Get a long extension cord and put the washer in the bathtub. (Not really) Good luck sweetie!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
