Where are the Decorations?

December 13, 2009 at 9:15 am by Claudia

Where are the decorations, you ask? Still in the boxes. A brief update on the tree trimming is in order. Friday was our day to decorate. We always like to start decorating after dark. So we pulled out the box with the lights and started stringing them. Halfway through this process, we realized the rest of the lights were no longer working. I ran out to our local supermarket. Nothing. It was now late and the temps were frigid, so we decided to wait until Saturday.

On Saturday, I sent Don out for lights since I was working. We decided that this might be a good time to go with clear lights and start a new look. He called me at work to say he had bought lights at the True Value for $14.00 a box – we quickly realized he had purchased LED lights and that would be too expensive. I made him take them back. Then he went to drug store and purchased several boxes of clear lights. Great!

I came home from work and we started stringing the lights. The cord was white. Okay, we thought, “We can make this work!” but after trying every possible way to hide the cords, we gave up. They all came off the tree and this morning I am venturing out to buy some more lights.

Ah, the joys of Christmas. Cross your fingers: hopefully, we will have a decorated tree by this evening.

The tree is beautiful in and of itself! This was my first visit to your blog and I love it! I am now following. Merry Christmas! Kerrie

I truly understand that “process”, honey. Many a times I’ve had to return things because after bringing them home I realized they weren’t what I originally thought them to be. Aaaaah, the frustration!

I have to chuckle, Claudia, been there! Now with a pre-lit tree, ah, all I have to do is hang up the ornaments but I do miss a real tree!

    Hugs,
    Marsha

Oh my gosh, Claudia, I love this post! GORGEOUS tree!! I thought these things only happened to me! Just think how grand your tree will look once you find the reasonaably priced white lights with green cords! I did the same thing with my little white tree in the dining room window the first year I had it.. Strung it with white lights with a green cord and said, “uh uh.” LOL It was back to the store to find white lights with a white cord!! Have lots of fun decorating today! Hope your friend’s shop was busy, busy, busy for her!… Donna

Oh no! Lights are crazy! I know LED is the way to go but I don’t like the light they give off. It hurts my eyes! I don’t know what I’ll do when my die! I hope you had a better time finding lights today! Good Luck!

I HATE the whole light thing….it’s the worst part of decorating the tree! I feel your pain :)

Can’t wait to see what it looks like all pretty-fied, though. Looks like you got the same kind as my family.

Well, it is a beautifully-shaped tree! Maybe forego the lights and just use ornaments? Ah, that’s probably unthinkable…

Claudia, what a trial to get just the right lights. The LED lights are everywhere now. I don’t like how bright they are. I can’t wait to see the finished tree soon.

How funny! I messed up too and bought two strands of white lights with white cords. They are still in their boxes. Maybe someday I’ll have a white tree and they can make themselves useful! Good luck with your lights!

Darling it is a lovely tree just bare, now imagine when you get the chance to string the correct lights and all the baubles…wow now that would be a site to see. Please share the photos with us.

What is it with Christmas lights never working when you need them.

I have to say though the tree is stunning…what a beautiful shape it is. Wish I were there to smell it.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
