Where Old Glasses Go to Die

February 4, 2012 at 9:57 am by Claudia

Sad, isn’t it? Broken side pieces. One pair taped with electrical tape, another with painter’s tape.

No more searching for the pair that works for television watching. Or the other pair that works for reading. Or driving at night. Or computer work. No more Where are my glasses….have you seen them? ten times a day. No more Which glasses? The black ones? The round ones? in response. No more shoving 2 or 3 pair in pockets in case they are needed at work.

Those days are over.

Just one pair now. And adult pair of glasses for a guy who never had a problem with his eyes until those years came along. You know, the years where you find yourself holding your book or menu or newspaper farther away so you can read it. Where watching television is frustrating because you can’t really see the large screen very well.

There.

I think he looks pretty cute.

Awwww..I think he looks pretty cute, too. I finally broke down and left my contact glasses and went to regular glasses. However, I only need them at night at this point as my vision during the day is pretty good. How has HE adjusted? xo Dina

Big boy glasses…wow… we are still looking around for our’s here in the garden. Somedays, I end up with two on top of my head and still looking. The worse is when we arrive at a restaurant and neither of us has a pair. We just stare at the menu blindly and guess….fun post

He do look mighty-fine in the new glasses.

Hope you all are feeling better and how did his audition go?

I am the one that has to give up my tons of glasses laying around and bite the bullet and get bifocals.

    Have a blessed weekend.

I always donate my old glasses to my eye doctor where they in turn donate them to people in need.

    Cute hat!

He looks great! That first photo looks like my house; there are glasses in various states of disrepair all over the house. About once a month I go to the dollar store and stock up; then come home and toss out all the used ones!

I remember ‘those’ days where there were ‘reading’ glasses everywhere and I didn’t have arms long enough. Sigh…finally got my first pair of prescription glasses. Now I am use to them and up to tri-focals. Old age is great!

I know the feeling. I’ve worn trifocals for 10 years now, only wearing them sometimes, and still need a pair of “near-see-ems” for close-up work!
Hope you both have a great weekend!

Have had the trifocals for years and last year added single focus reading/computer glasses. Life improved exponentially after that.
    Nice frame with dollhouse.

He looks a bit like my other half, except taller. Ted has worn glasses since childhood, I’m the one reaching ‘those years’ and struggling to adjust to needing specs … but just the one pair for reading so far, thank goodness.

That is a lovely portrait of your man Claudia :D

I’ve worn eyeglasses since I was 6 years old (astigmatism)and as I watch my husband always looking for his reading glasses because he really can’t see to read most of the time (like a menu in a restaurant!)and he never knows where they are, I realize that having to wear them all the time is actually easier. About ten years ago I went to no-line bifocals — a bit hard to get used to them but I was determined — and I love them. One pair of glasses on my face always from the time I get up until I go to bed at night. That way they never get lost!

Claudia, That is one thing about getting old I hate, losing our good eyesight. Oh that and having to wear ugly shoes, instead of those wonderfully cute strappy heels. xo, Susie (She Junks)

I think I recognized a pair or two in the old pile of glasses. HiHoney needs another pair beside his crossword puzzle spot, and the pair with painters tape look like they have another month or so of wear! I gave up years ago on looking everywhere for readers and lo and behold they were on my HEAD keeping my hair out of my eyes!

Yes, he does look quite groovy in his new specks! Thanks for stopping by today at CollectInTexas Gal.

Yes, he does look pretty cute sitting in front of your doll house playing that guitar. I laughed when I read this post because I have that problem all the time with reading glasses. I finally got a real pair of glasses, had them almost one whole year and then lost them. So….back to the dollar store reading glasses.

    Cute posting. I love it!

He kind of reminds me of Eric Clapton ;) Good for him for finally breaking down and getting ‘big boy’ glasses! I think you’re both cute…especially in your video. Hubby and I still get a kick out of that video and find ourselves bopping around as one or both of us hums the tune. It reminds me so much of US! :)

Several years ago I came up with a great use for old, cast-off or broken glasses: I put them on the teddy bears and dolls that I keep around the house. The children that visit me think it’s pretty funny that all the dolls and teddies have ‘eye problems.’

Very cute glasses! As an RN, you can just guess where I find most male patient’s glass (put away for safekeeping???) Gloves, please, LOL

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
