In the category of better late than never, the last room in the Who, What, Where series is being featured today. The Potting Shed. Or Potting Room. Or Garden Room. I’m not sure what I’ll finally end up calling it.
This room is a little tower room at the top of the house that sat empty and unused for most of the five years I’ve had the dollhouse. One day, Don suggested something about a garden at the top of the house and bingo! The lightbulb went on and I started dreaming about a little hideaway at the top of the house where Caroline could go to plunge her hands in some dirt.
Gardening in the City.
Walls: painted and aged by me; Floor: made out of beadboard wallpaper, painted by me.
Crate: made by Weston Miniature/Etsy; Flowers: from my stash; Watering Can: Miniatures.com; Sink: bashed together from a sink/vanity I had in my stash that was out of scale. I took it apart and used just the sink and added legs; Pitcher (in sink): a gift from Jayne; Stool: from miniatures.com, painted and aged by me; Trug: a gift from Barbara; Cherub on wall: from my stash, painted and aged by me.
Posters on wall: found online and printed out by me; Garden Tools in the corner: found at Chautauqua Miniatures.
Poster on wall: found online, printed out on card stock by me; Potting Bench: made by me from two shutters in my stash and newel posts also in my stash which were cut down; Pots: miniatures.com; Potting Soil: miniatures.com; Trowel: Weston Miniature; Graniteware pot: a gift from Karen; Seed packets: printables found online.
Skylight: added by me. I ordered a window from miniatures.com, created an opening with a keyhole saw and inserted the window. It made all the difference in the space.
I’ll highlight the outside soon, as well as the roof garden when I get it finished.
Happy Friday.
Claudia, I want Spring and your potting shed! I will shrink myself to fit!! Doris
I will join you, Doris!
The potting shed may be my favorite room in the doll house Claudia. It is perfect! Have a wonderful weekend!
Thank you, Vera. You too!
We are in the midst of what I’m told will be a two day snowstorm, so I decided spring needed to come early to my dollhouse. Your lovely potting shed has inspired all sorts of ideas! I recently ordered a mini gardening book from miniaturist Jean Day – any of your readers interested in miniatures might like to check out her amazing work.
The thought of having to brave the bitter cold walking to work this morning makes me wish I could curl up in my mini striped deckchair with a mini book. Given the climate where I live, I’ve decided it’s perpetual summer in my dollhouse!
We have a three day snowstorm coming up, Barbara. Not looking forward to that one.
It is definitely perpetual summer at my dollhouse, with flowers blooming in the window boxes!
Well done and cute as a tiny flower pot!
Thank you, Betty!
This was such a perfect idea for that little room..and you did a great job putting it together..I can hardly wait to see the roof top garden Claudia..
Thank you, Nancy!
This room is my favorite! But, I think that about all the rooms in Caroline’s house;) Lovely glimpse of Spring!
Caroline lives a pretty good life, Karen!
I agree – that may be my favorite room. Absolutely precious. Anxious to see the roof top garden.
Have a good weekend and stay warm. We are suppose to have 72 tomorrow – up from our 17 yesterday morning. Crazy weather.
Judy
Oh my gosh! I’m so jealous! It went down to well below zero here last night. And more of the same today and for the next several days. Enjoy, my friend.
When you said she could plunge her hands into some dirt…. I immediately had the scent of fresh damp earth in my mind. I always say that by Mother’s Day I like to have spent some time with dirt under my nails. Sadly there have been a few years when there was still snow or frozen earth by mid-May. But with this magic room at the top of her cottage, Caroline will never have that worry. Perfect!!
Caroline lives in a perfect world, Chris!
I’m so pleased Caroline has such a sweet place to garden. Funny…the colder amd snowier it gets…gardening is all I can think about! ;)
Oh, I long for spring and the garden, Donnamae. I understand!
Claudia, this might be my favorite room in the doll house (do I say that about each room as you show it??) Love the tools and the little pots. The skylight is really perfect!
hugs,
Linda
Thanks, Linda. That skylight is one of my favorite ‘improvements!’
Somehow I knew the doll house would have to have a yard..Does it have a pool?? It’s going to take over MHC one of these days..
No pool. If MHC can’t have a pool, neither can the dollhouse!
Claudia, That room looks real. You have done a fabulous job on the doll house. I love the little enamel pan under the bench. I am glad you have been showing us all the room as you have finished them. Hope everyone is better at your house. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
Don’s not feeling well at all. I’m slowly getting better. It’s been a bit tough here lately!
So are you putting planting boxes on the roof? You could build them now while it is so ucky outside!
I just haven’t felt up to dealing with any of that – probably due to being under the weather.
Finally, rain is coming soon to Northern California…within the hour, I think, in my area. What a cozy spot the attic is to peruse seed catalogs and gardening books, snuggled from the rain, but still hearing the patter of drops on the skylight! I love the cherub wall hanging. May I suggest a bit of distressing of the paint on one of the stool rungs? I usually prop my feet on stool rungs, and the paint or finish usually starts to wear.
I’m pretty sure one of the rungs on the other side of the stool is distressed, Wendy, for just that reason. I’ll have to check, but I believe I did that…
So happy to hear you’re getting rain!
I love the dollhouse’s potting room – it looks like such a pleasant place to spend time, and for such a pleasant activity! The blue enamelware bowl, the basket and that itty potting soil bag are my favorites. But the poster on the wall is a nice touch too. Not many people would think of having art in a potting room … that’s creative. PS – what’s a “trug?” I’ve never heard the word before! Oh and I hope everyone at MHC is feeling better…
A basket made of wood, used to carry flowers, etc., from the garden.
I understand that your blog is an income source for you, I really do. I am not criticizing how you do your business. But, please, please, please reconsider the audio advertising. I am a fairly long-time loyal reader of your blog. I do NOT like all the ads, especially the pop-up ones, but I put up with them because I know the ads are a source of income for you. I respect that and know it is my choice to read your blog or not. But I cannot do the audio ads. Not for me. It’s sad for me to say, but I can no longer read your blog if there will be audio advertising on it. I find it disruptive and intrusive. Sorry Claudia. With much respect, I wish you, Don & your dear Scout well.
I don’t know about you, but I always have the volume turned down on my computer, I have done that since I started blogging because even then there were blogs with playlists and audio ads. There is nothing I can do about audio ads, I don’t control the individual ads.
I’m sorry you’re finding it hard to deal with. I also dislike audio ads, but luckily, since I never have the volume turned up, I never hear them. Or, another suggestion, you can subscribe by email and read the posts that way. You don’t get any ads and all you get is the text and the photos. You can subscribe on the sidebar.
In the end, it’s your choice. But I’ve given you different options and opting for them is totally up to you. This blog cannot keep going without ads. Sorry, Luanne. If I stop the ads, I stop the blog. I spend several hours each day preparing posts for this blog and the book review blog. I don’t get paid. The only pay that I do get, via ads, goes right back into the costs I incur to maintain the blog.
Also, if you’re getting popup ads, it most likely is due to your browser. Except for one ad on one photo, there are no popup ads on this blog.
Try turning the volume down – it’s a pretty simple and easy solution. xo
Claudia, I did not suggest that you should stop having the ads on your blog. Like I said, I REALLY understand why. I really do! One thing though, I usually read your blog on my Nook HD and the sound is turned off on that. Today I am reading it on my computer (which I rarely do) on which I have the sound set at about 50%. I guess that is why I heard it today. I will take your wonderful suggestion and subscribe to your blog via email. I did not realize that the ads would not be on it. I have been reading your wonderful blog for quite awhile and look forward to hearing what’s up in your world every day. I love that you post daily! I know that is very hard to do and you take on that challenge well. When I check your blog each day, I love reading about an extraordinary women living in the ordinary world! I hope I did not offend you. That was not my intent.
Have a good weekend and THINK SPRING! Only 41 more days…..yes I am counting. I live in the hills of Central Mass and have over 4 feet of snow out there on top of my garden babies. And at least another foot is forecast! I know you are having pretty much the same weather up where you live. Take Care, Luanne
Of course you didn’t offend me, Luanne. I want everyone to be happy and, believe me, in a more perfect world, I wouldn’t have any ads on the blog at all. Unfortunately, I have to have them.
Subscribing via email seems like a good idea for you. Also, when you do have to view the blog on the computer, just take a second to turn the volume down – because I know you’ll encounter other ads on other blogs that have sound.
I’m probably a little defensive, to be honest with you, because I feel just the slightest twinge of unease about the whole ad thing. And I do want everyone to be happy.
I know, boo to ads with sound! I find them extremely annoying and maybe there’s a blessing for me in the fact that I have my volume turned down. I’m blissfully ignorant!
