Blazing hot yesterday, over twenty degrees cooler today.
I snapped this quickly this morning. It’s my favorite time of year in the Secret Garden; lots of wildflowers everywhere and off in the background, you can see the wild roses beginning to bloom. It needs to be mowed, but my goodness, it’s magical.
We’re going to attempt some mowing today, but it might rain this morning with storms in the afternoon. I’m definitely going to head out to weed after I write this post.
Today would have been my parents’ 76th wedding anniversary. They lived to celebrate 66 years together before my mom passed away. Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad.
Since it was so hot and humid yesterday, except for watering all of the plants, I stayed inside. I started a jigsaw puzzle, but I was very careful. I worked for 15 minutes at a time, then I’d get up and do something else. Just a little bit of work here and there. I’m very conscious of my back and I immediately correct if I find I’m leaning too far forward.
I couldn’t do any work on the dollhouse as there is no air conditioner in our office. We used to have one, but it died, and we haven’t felt the need to replace it.
I had a little job offer yesterday. My former colleague from Hartford Stage is the new Artistic Director of the Geva Theater Center in Rochester, NY. Or will be soon. She was Darko’s Associate Artistic Director for several years. You might remember that my last coaching job right before lockdown was on her production of Jane Eyre. She is remounting that production (which closed early due to COVID) as her opening production in the new season. So I’ll be doing the dialect coaching. Much of it will be done via Zoom, but I’ll work at least two days in Rochester, presumably for a run-through and a preview. Anyway, it’s a modest amount of money, but we can sure use it. And it’s a job! It will start sometime in August.
Now we need to get Don an acting job. It’s been close to three years since he’s had any work. He needs to act. He needs to know he is still viable at this age. His confidence could use a boost. Cross your fingers for him.
Okay, my friends. I have some work to do outside.
Stay safe.
Happy Wednesday.

We did a lot of mowing today and my back is sore, but I’ve got the heating pad going and I’ll take it easy for the rest of the day.
Stay safe, Kathy.

Good news on the job. Keeping my fingers crossed for Don! Hoping he finds the job that will be the perfect spot for him to work for years! Your many gardens make your place so beautiful! I am full of hope for June.
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Tana. Here’s hoping June is a wonderful month.
Stay safe.

Claudia-
I live in Rochester! If you need any help with logistics (I know a couple of people who rent out rooms in their house not far from GEVA) or anything else Rochester, please let me know. I would be delighted to help. I love GEVA – they do such quality productions.
Best-
Pam
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Pam. I’m sure they’ll take care of lodgings, but I’ll be sure to ask you any questions I might have about Rochester.
Stay safe.

Congrats on the upcoming GEVA job!
Took a quick peek at the upcoming GEVA season schedule, and looks like Darko is directing a production in early 2023… Russian Troll Farm: A Workplace Comedy.

Fingers crossed for Don.
Enjoy the bit of cooler weather it looks like you’re having in NY, as well as the rain while it lasts.
Temps in the 90s and humid here this week. I use the “cooler” mornings to weed/tend the gardens and water porch & deck plants. Hot sticky afternoons are spent reading, miscellaneous house chores, etc.
Stay safe & well.
Claudia says
Yes, I know he’s directing. She’s also doing a play by Matthew Lopez – a playwright I’ve worked with before. He has collaborated with Elizabeth before. She made smart decisions – choosing former colleagues, etc. Best to start out with people you trust.
Stay safe, Amy.

Congrats on the upcoming work! You must be thrilled. Sending positive vibes Don’s way!
The secret garden looks lovely with all the wildflowers. The bees must be thrilled. We took the day off from gardening because today is also our anniversary…48 and counting. Back at it tomorrow. And with cooler weather for the next ten days or so…it’s heavenly here. ;)
Chris K in WI says
Happy Anniversary, Donnamae & Hubby!! You certainly had a beautiful day of weather! We will be celebrating our 50th (crazy!!) on the 24th. I can’t believe that. Again, happy day!!!!
Donnamae says
Thank you!! Hope the weather holds for your 50th! Any special plans? ;)
Chris K in WI says
Nothing big at all. My kids wanted to plan something but we asked that they not. I just want a quiet day with the fam!! Yes, hoping that weekend will be as lovely as the past few days have been!!!!!!
Claudia says
Happy Anniversary, Donnamae! Bravo!
It’s cooler here now, as well. And rainy.
Stay safe.

Your parents achieved a long marriage. It’s hard to imagine. In genealogy, I followed the reunions celebrating the anniversaries of a couple eventually married 75 years. Each time I found another of those reunions, I marveled that they were together so long. Congratulations on your upcoming work, and I join with others in hoping to see Don soon find work. Book writers and actors have something in common: we never know when or if the next opportunity will come.
Claudia says
You’re not kidding! It’s a challenge, for sure – I’d add dialect/voice/speech coaches, as well.
Thanks, Linda.
Stay safe.

I live in a suburb of Rochester. Let me know if I can do anything for you here!
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Laura. I appreciate it.
Stay safe.

Well, three cheers for Jane Eyre! The governess is looking out for you!
The garden looks lovely and smart news on the puzzle schedule.
Fingers crossed for Don. Now that Bway is opening up, it seems like there must be something that will happen. Or a commercial. Or something!
Claudia says
He never hears from his commercial agent. It’s difficult to get into town as quickly as they want him to.
Stay safe, Jeanie.

It has taken me awhile to respond to what you wrote about your sister but I thought the words you wrote about her and her situation resounded with so much meaning and showed the love and care you have for your sister. I read your sisters blog and I wish her all the peace and comfort this new phase in her life will bring.
If you don’t mind me saying, Don will always be viable. He seems like such a nice, caring person and you are both lucky to have each other.
Claudia says
Don is a keeper. No doubt about it!
Thanks so much, Linda
Stay safe.
