Scoutie hasn’t been feeling well for the past few days. She hasn’t been interested in food. I’ve had to entice her with special things like rice and eggs. She’s been a bit agitated and not like herself. We ended up taking her to the Vet yesterday. She’s been put on some antibiotics and some blood work is being done. Unfortunately, she threw up everything not long after I gave her her first pill. So I’m going to try again this morning. We’re not sure what’s going on. She has fluid swellings on her rear legs which we’ve known about and have been keeping an eye on. She breathes more heavily as she’s aged and she definitely could stand to lose some weight. It could be anything and that’s what has me worried.
I was on the phone with the doctor a few times yesterday. Found out she has Lyme again, as well. That means she’ll be on two antibiotics. I’m worried about her. She’s slowed down a bit in the last few years but for a 13 year old dog, she has been amazingly peppy. Please say a prayer for her, my friends. We need your positive thoughts.
Not to make this about me, but there is so much on my plate right now in terms of ‘life decisions’ that I am completely overwhelmed. I seem to exist in a state of worry and tension and fear and that isn’t good. I know. I always try to acknowledge my blessings but there are times when I can’t see them. Ironic, during this Thanksgiving week. I try to keep this blog a fairly happy place but, friends, it’s a tough time for us.
Trying to stay positive.
Happy Monday.

Oh Claudia, you sound like me the past few months. I had been the same way and all the worry and stress will wear you down. I am a natural born worrier and that is something I have to fight everyday. It’s in my DNA. I try to turn off the tapes in my head that catastrophize every single scenario that I imagine. It’s not easy but I do know that if I give myself the chance, things to do have a way of working themselves out. We also have to know we have no control over the circle of life be it our beloved pets or our much loved family. When things get too overwhelming I repeat to myself “let go and let God”. It really seems to help. Hang in there!~ xo, Patti

Good Morning Claudia,
Since our pets are our family we worry so about them. I have a young cat in being spayed this morning and she is only 4 1/2 pounds so it is a concern but she has been in a strong heat. The other cats just want to play and even though she is just a kitten at 4 and a half months old this heat needs to be taken care of. I pray she will be alright. She is so much fun and the 2 other cats just love her. I keep fixing up a house I’ll be moving into soon. I want to move but I don’t want to have no idea where some of my things are and that always happens. Thankfully, I’m only moving a couple of miles away. Hugs for Scoutie. I pray she will be better as the day goes on. I love a good vet so I’m not actually complaining but our vet’s prices have gone higher and higher. That is another concern. A new vet also came in and I do not know her well and she seems to be uninterested in her work. :( Lots to worry about. I do my best to give it to God throughout the day. ~ Rita

Hi Claudia,
I’m so sorry to hear that Scout is having such a hard time, poor thing. But she has great caregivers, who love her very very much and are doing absolutely everything in their power to get her feeling like herself again. Life can be very hard sometimes and difficult and worrying situations can take their toll on us. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers, especially today.
Take care.

It’s so frustrating and scary when our pets get sick since they can’t “tell us” what’s wrong. I hope the blood tests give the vet an idea of how to treat poor Scout. Keep us posted.
It sounds like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders. Know that so many of us are going through bad times and just don’t share it. It’s so easy to feel alone with your problems, especially when everyone sounds so cheery getting ready for the holidays. I hope you know we are there for you and are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.
XO,
Jane
Sandy says
Claudia, sorry to hear about Scout. Life transitions can certainly become overwhelming especially when too many changes happen at once. I try to be happy and positive most days but sometimes verbalizing my fear is part of the process of moving through life challenges. It helps me get through each situation. Sometimes situations in life just plain suck! Journaling helps me too. Life is hard and being in denial and putting on a happy face when I’m not feeling happy doesn’t feel right for me. Thank god I have a hubby and a couple of friends who honor my process. They give me the space and listen to me without trying to fix. I’ve learned to do that for the people in my life. My motto in life is Free to Be! That gives me the space to be totally honest with myself without judging. I try to catch myself when inserting the “should” word. Someone told me should is self abuse. So cry, get angry, feel whatever you need to feel.
I come here and read your blog because you share so much of yourself. This blog is about you, Don, Scout and dear Riley. It’s about sharing your insights, your joys and sorrows. It’s about life, art, gardening and crafts with your unique spirit and insights wrapped around it. You are a beautiful kind soul with a wicked sense of humor. We your readers accept and love all parts of you! Sending kind loving thoughts your way…. There are storm clouds now, but the sunshine is briefly obscured and will shine brightly…… It always does eventually and for that I’m truly grateful.

Oh, dear! Claudia, I am so very sorry that Scoutie is ill. There is no point in telling you not to worry, I know that is not possible. Heck, I am worried about her myself! But she is getting good care, she knows she is loved, and I am praying she will be fine, and quickly. As for trying to keep the blog a happy place, this is a home and family, of sorts. I do not believe any of us want you to “put on a happy face” when your heart is hurting. The blogs I love most are the ones that are honest, with real people behind them, people who welcome me into their little world online, and make me feel we are friends. I am honored to know that you have shared your heartbreaks, as well as your joys, with us. Sending gentle hugs, give Scoutie one for me, and know that I am keeping you all in thought and prayer.

Oh Claudia, I’m so sorry that Scout isn’t feeling well. Of course I will pray for him and for you. I know just by your words that you have been worried for awhile now. (Life and things)
When we had just gotten our Piper he got parvo. I took him to a doctor and he said he had a 50/50 chance. He didn’t give me any medicine. All he gave me was a can of Rx Science dog food. I would give him a little of the food and stand there and add pedialite to the food as he ate it. I got online and asked for help. Someone also suggested giving him pumpkin for an upset stomach. That did help and he liked it. But that would be a mess if he threw it up. Good luck. Hope he will be okay..
Charlotte MacDiarmid says
Claudia, you, Don and your sweet Scout are in my prayers. I know after losing your sweet Riley, this is only that much more devastating.. If only our pets could tell us where they hurt or how they feel.
We lost our one and only kitty on the 25th of October.. Our house is like an empty shell without our pet..
I know you and your Vet will do everything possible to help Scout get better.. That’s just what pet parents do.
Know that I will be thinking about and praying for your total situation to get better.. I don’t know all of the details but whatever they are may God fix “it” for you.
Hugs from Virginia,
Charlotte

Please know I’m thinking of you. I’m feeling a bit anxious, too, because I’m so tired and can’t seem to kick myself into gear for the holidays. So we are going to back out of plans and be together, just the two of us for Thanksgiving. I’m really looking forward to it. I am craving some down time with my sweetie of 34 years. I can’t believe I’ve been married that long and am that old!

I am so sorry your baby is not feeling well. It is always so worrisome with pets and I know you just suffered a loss a short time ago.
I am praying for you, Claudia. I know that there have been some hard issues in your life lately. I wish I could help and just know that I am a listening ear if you ever need one…and have done my share of counseling over the years. Bless you and know that you are loved and prayed for– xo Diana

Hi Claudia, I’m so sad to see you feeling blue. Sometimes the weight of all the cares together is just too much, but then an unexpected relief will come. As for pretty Miss Scout, I hope the Lyme meds perk her up! I know Lyme really gets Nellie down, but the antibiotics help. I am wondering how you celebrate Thanksgiving? I think you are a vegetarian (?) Do you have a special meal? I hope if you do the celebration will uplift your spirits. Linda
