Thought you might want to check on on The Dude.
As expected, he’s cool.
The DNC was the best convention I have ever seen. Beyond ‘best.’ In the past, I never watched the entire broadcast from start to finish. I would check in and out, or tune in for the final speech of the night. This time, I didn’t want to miss anything. And I’m happy to say I didn’t. One powerful speaker after another – our bench is really deep – one moment laughing, the next crying. I could try to highlight certain moments, but frankly, there are way too many! (And I have ‘stayed-up-too-late-too-many-nights-in-a-row’ brain.)
Tim Walz. What an extraordinary man. And his son Gus shouting “That’s my dad! That’s my dad!” Pure, unbridled love for his father.
All of it culminating in the best acceptance speech I have ever heard. Kamala knocked it out of the park…out of the universe!
So glad we watched it on C-Span. We got to hear the house band, and watch the dance breaks with the delegates dancing along with the music. No pundits explaining something I just witnessed. Just the pure, unfiltered experience.
I’m feeling so hopeful this morning. I’ve never been a big flag waver. And then the ‘other side’ coopted it when they claimed to be “patriots.” We have taken it back, thank goodness.
Oh gosh, my thoughts are a jumble this morning. Thank you to the DNC for a masterful and joyful convention.
It’s been a week of late nights, lots of mowing, lots of reading, and lots of naps. Oh, and lots of good weather!
More tomorrow.
Stay safe.
Happy Friday.

Agree about Dem Convention! Flawless from start to finish. One of my favorite moments: the huge ovation for Elizabeth Warren! So well deserved.
Claudia says
Oh, yes! I was thrilled for her. She deserves it. Seeing her struggling to keep from crying was so moving.
Stay safe, Terri.
Barrie says
In the passed I’ve usually switched channels back and forth with the convention. This convention, I was riveted and excited! The DNC was well-thought-out, balanced, and memorable….and I sure hope it pays off in November. Hints of fall have been in the air here, so much cooler. I’ve been reading a lot, too. I’ve got a book going, and I’m also reading a book aloud to my mother…The Day the World Came to Town, about how the people of Gander, Newfoundland came together to help the passengers of almost 40 planes that landed there on 9/11. It’s a heartwarming side of one of our worst days ever. Now that the convention is over I’ll be able to get even more reading done.
Claudia says
That has always been a moving and heartwarming story, Barrie. Bless them.
Stay safe.
Eileen Bunn says
I loved the convention. The first day there were tears. It seemed such a long time since I heard such positivity . I didn’t realize I missed it so much. The rest was just so refreshing. It was great to hear what our country could become. I loved Michelle’s Black job comment. We signed up to send postcards.
Love,
Eileen
Claudia says
Michelle was incredible. Such a great speech, delivered perfectly.
Stay safe, Eileen.

The convention reminded me of the promise of America. That this country has always worked to make itself better, for everyone and deal with the past in order to improve and correct.
I thank you for bringing up C-Span…so I could watch and enjoy the convention without commentary.
I was also happy to see people calling out the bully for what he is and what he is not ..a person of good character and morals.
I hope you have a lovely weekend,
Kaye
Claudia says
Yes. We need to call him out. No more ‘too nice’ Democratic Party. He is evil and it needs to be said.
Thanks, Kaye.
Stay safe.

dear Claudia/Don — maybe y’all can return to “normal” now DNC is done — did not watch live but recorded then watched — know this was a partisan crowd but glad to see some “old people” still can get deserved attention — too bad election day is not tomorrow, haha!! don’t know how much he was paid (or not) but Kinzinger- I thought – was a powerful voice — have been watching him since Jan 6 hearings and have been impressed w/intelligence, courtesy, insight — guess we will hear more from him in the future. hope you have a good wkend. stay safe/healthy
Claudia says
Yes, I am a big fan of Kinzinger. He was brave througout the Jan. 6 Committee hearing and is brave now. He is a true patriot.
Stay safe, Linda.
Donnamae says
I have never before watched an entire convention before. What a remarkable convention that was so well put together. So many outstanding moments….too many to list, along with plenty of tears. Right now, I’m feeling utter joy, and hope for the future, like I haven’t felt in a long time!
Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
Yes. Isn’t it nice to feel hope again?
Thanks, Donnamae.
Stay safe.
Deb in Phoenix says
Ditto on the convention. I did not want to miss a minute of it. So wonderfully done by the DNC. Watching Gus, Tim Walz son, brought tears to my eyes. How proud he was of his Dad! And to think Trump made fun of a child on the spectrum just shows you what an awful person he is! We can’t let him win this election!! Kamala’s speech was so hopeful and full of joy. I can’t wait to see our first woman President. But we must work hard. Like Tim said
“We can sleep when we are dead!” Love that man!
Claudia says
Lots of MagaTs made fun of Gus. It just proves what awful people they are.
Yes, we can’t let up on the gas and we all have to help out.
Stay safe, Deb.
Elaine in Toronto says
Wow is right. We were riveted to the convention. Watched all 4 nights.
Kamala did her mom proud and her country proud. She has brought hope and dignity back to the election. You and Don need to rest this weekend. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
She is frigging amazing.
Thanks so much, Elaine.
Stay safe.
Wendy says
I too loved the convention. Watched every night. So well done and the speakers were great. I even got a kick out of the roll call. Looking forward to seeing President Kamala Harris! Governor Walz is so enthusiastic!! I am from Minnesota and I have never seen him so joyful. Very proud of him and his family.
Claudia says
What a wonderful man he is! And what a loving family! We are lucky to have him as the nominee for Vice-President.
Stay safe, Wendy.

I wish I had thought to put the Cspan channel on…..I have been glued to the television….and the computer for the past three days. I am giving up on this Lap top. Taking it in for service tom. and wont get it back till sometime next week. So…..will start doing my “chores” again.
I feel mentally and physically exhausted. Extremely hopeful that the majority of people in this country will make the only rational choice….Kamala Harris.
Stay well …..and take a deep breath. Autumn is right around the corner and you are in a beautiful area to enjoy the colors…..(unless you hate bagging leaves and acorns)
Claudia says
You can feel it in the air, can’t you? The mornings have been cooler.
Take care of yourself, Maria. Feel better.
Stay safe.
jeanie says
I watched it all, too. Gus. Tim W., Adam Kinzinger, the Obamas, and yes, Kamala. It’ll be a fight, it’ll get ugly but right now — such a high.
Claudia says
Yes, it will get ugly. But we’re on to them and they won’t get away with it.
Stay safe, Jeanie.

glad for you to have had good days with some cooler weather, books to read, flowery blooms and fog to enjoy along with walks with don and feeling good about the convention (the bits i saw of the musical roll call were fun and it would be hard to be around all that joyful energy and not pick it up).
may good things continue for everyone.
well, my liver appointment is done and the staff there have no concerns. “all benign”. good! what was scary for me was getting very limited and sometimes mixed and missing information from my primary doctor, then waiting weeks for yesterday’s appointment. and what is still a bit concerning to me (but not really to the liver doctor) was that they all found and looked at three different things in my liver that are “not normal, but a variant of normal” (?), things that in their lifetime most people only get one of (a cyst or a hemangioma/tangle of blood vessels that looks like a clot or whatever the third thing is), but i have all three, one of each. don’t know that the liver doctor had ever seen that before either … all three in one liver (way to be weird, kathy. way to be weird) … but she stressed several times and put it in writing for me that they are all benign and will cause me no problems, don’t now have any cancer and won’t turn into any cancer. that part is very good and a huge relief. :) anyway, that’s done. stye appointment monday, bone shot tuesday, then hopefully nothing more for a good long time.
thanks to everyone who expressed support and prayed (prays) for my family and me. very, very much appreciated! xo
i keep you all in prayers here, too.
hotter weather coming here. supposed to be 101 degrees on monday (ugh) so this morning i brought out a bag of hats i knit this past winter; they need to get tags on them before taking them to my church for a missions fundraiser sale in december (i don’t like procrastinating, though am pretty good at it since retiring … haha). won’t knit again until the weather seriously cools down in a couple months and i can find this wool yarn on sale. in the meantime, will keep reading (“girl on a train” by paula hawkins at present) indoors with air conditioning on.
hope you, don and everyone else have a great weekend and stay safe in every way.
kathy
Claudia says
Kathy, I am so happy to hear this news! Prayers answered! It must be a weight off your shoulders. Don’t overthink the three things and the liver. Your doctor has reassured you and all is well, my friend.
Stop, breathe deep. You’re healthy and whole!
SO HAPPY FOR YOU!
Stay safe, my friend.
