Yarn Bombing, Food & Friends

June 15, 2012 at 7:30 am by Claudia

Have you heard about yarn bombing? Sometimes called urban knitting or guerilla knitting, yarn bombing is a sort of graffiti that is not permanent. I’ve seen yarn bombed trees and all sort of things on the internet.

Well, my local yarn shop got permission to yarn bomb the railing of the library in a neighboring town. Yesterday, while we were sight-seeing and shopping, we came across the installation. It’s fabulous!

This is a long, double railing and it runs the length of the sidewalk (even longer than you see in this photograph.

I have no idea how long it took to put this together. It’s really wonderful. And the bird knocked my socks off!

Our guests go back to NYC today and on to their home in Canada on Saturday. We’ve had a great time together. Scout will most likely go into a funk once they’ve gone. Our girl is pretty social and she loves an adoring audience.

Wednesday was fun food day. We had egg salad sandwiches, chips, vanilla ice cream with strawberries, pizza and popcorn. Mmm mmm good! Everyone needs a fun food day now and then.

Happy Friday.

Claudia, I love the yarn bombing! There is a book about it. I bought it, read it and passed It on. I am afraid that I couldn’t talk myself into doing it. Just think how many warm socks an hats could be made in the same time that it took to cover the railing….

How in the world do they do that? Is it knitted/crocheted in place? Amazing and I love the fun aspect of it. The bird steals the show! xo Diana

Gotta love a good Y.B. What fun on the railing at the library. We need anything to attract attention to a library. I’m so nervous they will too become a thing of the past. Have a relaxing weekend guest free. You know where I’ll be out in the garden with hose in hand.

Thanks for introducing “Yarn Bombing” – this is a term for me – and now I feel so educated! :) First thing I thought when I saw the bird was – I bet Claudia could learn how to make those – and sell them in her etsy shop! :) It’s adorable! Have a nice weekend!

Oooh… that’s a cute one. I really love the bird. It’s such a clever touch. The only yarn bombing that I’ve seen in person is in Berkeley on 4th Street. It’s wrapped around a sign pole. It was a fun, whimsical surprise to happen upon!

I’ve heard of it. And I’ve seen other pictures around the web of trees that have been yarn bombed.
But I guess I don’t get it. Just the fun factor…that’s why they do it?
Maybe it’s my equivalent of a bottle tree!
I love them…but some people don’t get them either. LOL…

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
