Yes, It’s My 3rd PicMonkey Post

April 11, 2012 at 7:30 am by Claudia

I originally wrote a post extolling the virtues of PicMonkey on March 14th – almost a month ago. At that time, I told you that it was becoming my favorite photo editing site. I wrote about it again on March 28th and included a link to an interview with one of the site’s developers, who originally worked for Picnik.

Time for another update. I see more features added nearly every day. PicMonkey is adding more fonts, more effects, and more textures. And I know a collage feature is on the way.

I noodled around with some of the new features today, starting with this photo of Scout:

I just added one effect – Burst – and came up with:

Burst intensifies color and is a lot of fun.

This shot of Scout (who was quite agitated because a squirrel was running around right outside the corral) was changed to:

I used the Film Stock effect, added a geometric shape and used a font to give the photo a title.

I cropped this photo, used the Sepia effect and then added photo corners.

And finally, I started with this photo:

Scoutie was running and she ended up way to the left in the photo. So I cropped it.

I sharpened it and used Focal Zoom. It really highlighted her heart-shaped spot. I also added a drop shadow.

There is so much happening every day on the PicMonkey site. Stop by and play a bit. You’ll love it. I will, of course, keep you informed on any other changes.

I don’t even use Picnik anymore.

Edited to add: iPiccy’s collage feature is up and running. I haven’t tried it yet. With all the competition out there, I’m sure this means PicMonkey’s will be available very soon.

Claudia- I have never used any of those programs..other than the cropping my computer will do. I am going to play with it a bit and see if I can do something with it. I am pretty techy challenged so wish me luck. I LOVE that burst feature! xo Diana

I am trying to figure out how you placed the green band under the font. was that the geometric shape? I am only using PicMonkey now too.

Claudia, those are awesome. Scout makes a perfect subject :) I love the sepia one with the corner photo tabs. It looks like it came out of my mom’s photo album! As you know from some of my recent posts, I got hooked on PicMonkey after seeing your first demonstration! It’s so much fun! Have a great day… Donna

Quit it now! You keep getting me all excited and I don’t have time to play with the monkey until this weekend. I did do a little pic for a note card for a friend that I loved and I know I’m going to love the monkey so much more….but no fair getting me all crazed when I cannot use it yet :D

Question..Did you upgrade to the premier? I noticed there are some premium textures I think?

Seriously keep showing us all the cool stuff, it’ll save us all time, so thank you !

I love picmonkey and have been using since I heard about it from your blog. Thank you! I used a few of the different features when editing photos for my blog post today. It’s simple and easy to use and I love not having to create an account.

I’m so glad to know that others are stepping up as Picnik is stepping down. I like easy sites like this since I don’t really want to spend too much time on digital work. I also downloaded Photoscape which is free and use it for collages. Have a great rest of the week. Tammy

    Hi Claudia,
Thank you for the encouraging words about PicMonkey. I just began a new blog and have been very pleased with the editing features. I have enjoyed Picnik and hated to see them move on…but, thanks to your comments, I have enjoyed PicMonkey. Thank you for putting the word out, my friend!

I’m so glad I found PicMonkey and can’t wait until they get their collage feature up. I also used Pixlr the other day when I had to make a background transparent on an image. That’s a little less user-friendly and more like PhotoShop. Thanks for sharing.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
