It is the most beautiful morning!
A breeze, the faint sound of the wind chimes, blue blue sky, and so cool that we had to put on sweatshirts when we went out on the porch for our second cup of coffee. The sounds of mourning doves calling out to each other, cicadas, and crickets fill the air. Just glorious.
It feels almost autumnal – certainly not like early August. But I’ll take it. I’ve opened the windows throughout the house. After so many days with the A/C on, I want to air it out.
I plan to hang around the house today. Yesterday I pulled some weeds, watered, cleaned out the birdbath, and ran an errand. Today? Who knows? I do know that I’m not mowing today. Don is going to do that later in the day.
My back is much better. Thank goodness!
I’m in the midst of reading The Overstory, which is unlike any book I have ever read. I’ll share more with you when I finish it. Richard Powers is an extraordinary writer.
And we’re watching Trapped on Amazon Prime. It’s an Icelandic murder mystery, filmed in Iceland with Icelandic actors. It’s opened up another world. The cast is excellent.
That’s all. I’m feeling relaxed and I plan to enjoy this day. Have a lovely weekend.
Happy Saturday.

You sound very relaxed and chill in this post, Claudia. Hope the contented feelings lasts through the weekend!
Claudia says
Me too! The drop in temperatures and humidity helps a great deal!
Donnamae says
Yes….Wendy is right. I can hear your relaxed voice coming through. I’ll hazard a guess, it’s due to the lack of humidity?
I’ve been lazy this morning. Its just been nice to enjoy this weather….the house is again airing. It’s been cloudy all morning, so the temps are lower. It’s feels wonderful.
I hope you really enjoy this day! ;)
Claudia says
Partly! And a lovely morning with my husband, who is now off taking portraits.

Glad to see your back is feeling better. It’s a gorgeous view on your porch! I’ve watched the Icelandic thriller Trapped when it was on BBC tv a couple of years ago. It’s excellent and there is a second, separate series. I actually like subtitles, we have lots of Scandinavian crime and drama series broadcast on main TV in the UK.
The Bridge (Danish/Swedish) and The Killing (Swedish) are particularly good but my absolute favourite is Wallender starring Krister Henricksson. He plays a Swedish detective going through a mid life crisis and his acting is superb. There’s been other actors play the role, one of them played Wallander for a couple of episodes prior to Krister and there’s been a British remake with Kenneth Branagh but he’s the best. Life in small town Sweden seems much less complicated too. Listening to Swedish, there are so many similarities between our two languages.
Happy Saturday
Claudia says
I’ve seen the series with Kenneth Branagh. Whether we have access to the series with Henricksson is doubtful – but I’ll look for it. Thanks, Dee Dee.

Our high is supposed to be 103 today, heading into Tuesday’s 105. We’ve had 100+ degrees for the last week. Still, daylight is coming later, and I can see changes that forecast the changing seasons. For us, autumn is usually fairly indistinguishable from summer except for a typical two-week period of glorious weather about November or December that we get before our version of winter hits.
Claudia says
Oh, that’s hot! That’s the kind of weather my sister gets! Take care, Linda!
Nora in CT says
Good news the last few days: you heard from your friend, your back is better, the weather is cooler and drier and beautiful and you’re deep into a great book. XO. I love wind chimes and breezes and open windows to air out the place. I miss clothes lines for that reason! Nothing like cotton sheets that have dried in the sun and fresh air. I don’t think you and Don have ever been to Iceland. I got to go once a few years ago. When you guys get to travel again, I think you’d love it there. It’s glorious visually, culturally a long literary tradition and reverence for books, friendly people, easy travel by car, very outdoor oriented and focused on fresh food. It’s expensive but manageable and unlike anywhere else I’ve ever seen. I hope this series you are watching will encourage you to put it up on the top of your list. Before my trip, France was my very favorite place to be, but even tho it’s not as warm, Iceland with it’s unearthly variety, won me over. I’ll always love Paris, of course. BTW, the way I got to see Iceland was a trip thru Travelzoo, an amazing deal for about $700-800 including airfare, 4 nights at a nice hotel, including a northern lights hunt. We flew out of Boston on Iceland Air, great service, 5 hour flight, the city of Reyjavik is easy to navigate and you can see a lot by foot with cool bookstores, cafes, museums (my friend said the museum of sex was a hoot) and a beautifully situated university next to a lake. They offer deals like this fairly frequently, usually at the end of April on the cusp of the season for the northern lights. I sound like a tourism ad, but all 6 of us thought it was one of the very best places we’d ever been. And a great deal.
Claudia says
Yes, we’d love to do that some day, Nora! A former student of mine just got back from Iceland and I have several other friends who have gone. Thanks!
Jane Krovetz, NC says
Love your flowers! So glad the weather up there is cooler and less humid. It will happen here too eventually. In the meantime, I will enjoy the morning outside.
Claudia says
Have a lovely morning, Jane!
Penny Spencer says
Glad to hear your back is feeling better. Don’t rush it though, which I’ve done and regretted.
We’ve had 3 most gorgeous, perfect days in Michigan as well, finally! The heat, humidity and rain had me and my gardens in, as well as feeling cooped in the AC. We too have been enjoying the birds, bees and everything nature has to offer. Loving it. Take care.
Claudia says
Isn’t it nice to finally have good weather? Thanks, Penny!
Laura Walker says
We are having a very hot weekend, but as I love summer I am not going to complain. I haven;t decided if I will venture out today. Plenty to do indoors, If I had that porch though, I would definitely be out there. I have a problem watching shows with subtitles. I like to study the faces. I guess that is why I was a counselor. xo Laura
Claudia says
Well, we’re into faces as well, being actors! But you just have to get used to it. Soon, the rhythm of reading the subtitles and watching the actors is seamless. Thanks, Laura.
