Three days and counting. Today? Recycle. Hold Mail. Hold NY Times. And more. Yesterday, I mowed the front yard and the corral and was pretty darned tuckered out at the end of the process, but I knew it was going to rain at some point today and tomorrow, so I thought I’d get that done.
These might be the last of the roses for a while. I need to add more to the Memorial Garden so there’s something else going on when the roses decide to take a break. The moonflowers have emerged from the ground but it will take a while for them to start climbing.
Much of the milkweed that is growing this year is tucked way back in the borders at the back of the property. I had to contort my body to get this shot of the flowers. They have such a wonderful scent. Have you ever seen millefiori flowers in a glass paperweight? These look exactly like them.
I have a friend who always manages to see a Monarch butterfly on her milkweed. That hasn’t happened to me. Wish it would!
I bought a hollyhock this year because I missed the volunteer that graced us with beautiful flowers for the past two years. So far, every bud has fallen to the ground before it could fully open. I took this photo this morning. Fingers crossed that an entire flower emerges.
I’m looking forward to my trip but so many flowers are about to open around here that I’m sad that I’ll miss out on that daily discovery.
Can I take my garden with me?
My friends saw three houses yesterday, all of which were wrong for them. But now they’re reconsidering the one that is only six minutes away from our cottage. I don’t dare hope!
By the way, we saw a black bear cub run across the road the other day (near to the house they’re considering). And my neighbor has seen one cross his driveway.

I just love that range of color in the roses—pinky peach to yellow and all of the colors in between. All in full bloom at once. Stunning!

Your flowers are gorgeous! Love the colors on that rose bush. I totally understand about the timing of trips and flowers budding out…I totally missed my irises bloom this year. We can’t take our gardens with us….but we can take the pics! Hope you have a productive day! ;)

You really do have the loveliest flowers in your garden. I can imagine how much you will miss the daily ‘show’! Still seeing Don and having a fun adventure together is well worth it. Fingers crossed your friends find the right house and it’s close by. I’m working in my craft room today. I need to do some more arranging and de-cluttering in there. I’m also trying to finish “The Kept Woman’ by Karin Slaughter, she is such a good writer!! Rainy day in GA so staying in works out just fine. Hugs!

Your roses are beautiful! The new morning glory looks variegated. Hope you get a good bloom before Monday. You have done such a fantasIc job managing the homestead alone. Mowing is a chore but shoveling snow would have been worse! At least for me! Enjoy your sweet reunion with Don. Praying here that he makes it to Broadway!!
Shoveling snow would have been much worse, Dottie. I like mowing the lawn – it’s tiring, but I like it.

The photos of your flowers are beautiful! Something is eating all the leaves of my rose bushes and leaving them looking like skeletons. I don’t dare use pesticide because we have too many young birds, good insects and things in our garden. I may mist them with soapy Palmolive dish soap. That has worked in the past. Oh my a bear? Have you been using your 50 mm lens for your flowers? I need to use mine more. Have a fabulous weekend! Hope flowers will still be blooming when you return!
We don’t use pesticides either. I use the macro/closeup setting on my Rebel. I find I don’t use the 50mm lens all that much, though I often use it to photograph the dollhouses.
Wow, you have abundant wildlife around there; lions & tigers & bear, oh my. The milkweed is very pretty; I really didn’t know what it looked like, when reading about monarchs.
The flowers have the most wonderful scent, Vicki. They don’t last long, so I try to make a trip up to the back forty to see them.

I’m sure you are as busy as the bees are in the garden right now!! It would be sad to leave the flowers, but the joy you will have to be with Don will do much to dismiss that feeling! Think of all the new flowers you will see and share with us while you are in California and on your trip back home. We are looking forward to that. I always take a small bird and flower paperback book with me on vaca to identify what I am seeing. So many different varieties!

our resident bunny has eaten the heads off of my shasta daisies, lillies, hollyhock and beans! I cannot believe it i just planted 7 hollyhocks and they have all been beheaded!
