A Doll and a Box

October 22, 2025 at 9:23 am by Claudia

You get to see Lucy and her friend today. (I haven’t taken any pictures in a few days.) Lucy is always adorable.

Oh, wait…I forgot that we drove into our neighboring town yesterday to visit the antique barn. That was where we were headed on Sunday when the traffic stopped us in our tracks. I spoke to the owner and he said Sunday was insane. Traffic was backed up for miles coming into town from the interstate, going out of town, and on every road in town. And they had the best day of sales that they’ve had in 21 years. We have to remember – October weekends in the fall? Do not go into town.

I was looking for a box to corral my jars full of paintbrushes and tools and I found one:

It’s very old and you know I like old. Someone painted it and it’s one of my favorite colors, so it was a no brainer. Oh, and it was very inexpensive.

Sorry – I just ran upstairs to take these pictures and it’s still darkish up there.

By the way, if you follow my IG Blythe account, Sophieandherpals, you can see a very short video I shot yesterday of my little corner of the room – my wee little studio. I’m really enjoying that space right now. I just have to get moving on the Beacon Hill. I have all sorts of ideas, but I have to force myself to do some repairs first.

It rained all night last night and, since we are in a drought, we are very grateful. We’re on a little break from baseball until the World Series starts on Friday.

And yes, I am heartsick at what is going on with the Evil Clown and the White House and his despicable gang of pranksters, but that is all I can say right now because I’m trying to retain my sanity. Sometimes I think I’m hanging on to that sanity by a thread. I’m heartened by the fact that the two teams playing in the World Series are from California and Canada, a state and a country he detests because they refuse to “play ball” with his BS.

Okay.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

great find for you and your paintbrushes! also happy for the owner of the antique barn to have had such a great day of sales. :)

and that you had more rain. have a couple days of rain forecast for next week and hope we get it. we could really use some, too. now it’s dry and colder (39 degrees on our walk this morning and i loved it), leaves changing colors and dropping all over.

agree about what our elected “leaders” (in name only) are doing … or not doing, as the case may be. like not swearing in a legitimately-elected representative?!? that single mis-use of power alone leaves me so angry and scared for our country (and there’s soooo much more than that … like t**** posting that a-i video of himself in a plane wearing a crown and dumping feces on people). plus paving over the rose garden and now tearing down much of the east wing?!? heart-breaking.

best i go get something done … lots to do anyway, plus staying busy helps me.

hope you, don and everyone else have a nice day. stay safe.

We have junk jaunt in central Nebraska one weekend in September! It’s basically tons of garage sales over 150 miles long. I live right in the middle of the heaviest traffic. It’s crazy that weekend, people are gawking at vendors, slamming on their breaks generally driving crazy. I stay away as much as possible. But if you have stuff to sell it’s a great weekend to have a spot.

Stay calm on the political front. Only 3 more years. It will be ok.

I think we are having the same weather and it’s very welcome rain, even though the days are quite gloomy and cold with it. Still, sorely needed. Nice find with your box. It looks great. Don’t start me on the white House. A visual bulldozing metaphor for what is happening to our country.

He’ll fall over. He can’t keep his balance any more.

      Thanks, Linda.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
