Look who was at the birdbath this morning. Our very own lonesome dove! Don pointed him out to me. I had just been wondering if the doves were still around and I got my answer. I can’t tell you how happy this made me. He drank quite a bit of water and stayed perched on the rim for about 5 minutes.

I still feel like crap, especially first thing in the morning. But I have to get it together because we’re going into the city this afternoon. Don is singing in a concert version of a new bluegrass musical called Johnny and the Devil’s Box. It’s still in development and this concert is being done to get a good recording of the score. It’s at 7 pm at the Rockwood Music Hall which is on the Lower East Side. Should be fun. Don plays a character called Pappy and has one song.

I’ve taken to calling him Pappy.

We’re taking the bus because we don’t want to be bothered with driving. So it will be a long day. And I have to go back into the city on Tuesday for a run-through of Anastasia.

Great new series on Netflix alert: There’s a new series called The Kominsky Method, starring Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin. It premiered on Friday and we’ve already watched all 8 episodes (wish they’d done more!). It’s really good. I like both actors, but I’m a big fan of Alan Arkin. He never makes a false move. Such an incredibly gifted actor. It’s funny and sad and lovely.

In the midst of the snow, and they were covered in snow the other day, the pansies are still blooming.

The nighttime lows are going into the teens later this week, so I don’t know how much longer they’ll be around. But it’s a blessing to see this splash of color on my porch right about now.

I love pansies.

Happy Sunday.

Good morning and have a safe trip into the city! I hope Don’s show goes smoothly. I’m sure he;s excellent in it.
I started watching the first episode of The Kominsky Method and then stopped because I thought Gary would also want to see it. Michael Douglas, as he’s gotten older, looks like Fisher Stevens, I think. It was nice to see all his wrinkles. It was bothering me though that it seemed he’d have a thing with Nancy Travis, who’s much younger, and I’m so sick of that old man/young woman thing!

Well, she’s 57 and he’s 74, so it’s not all that big of a difference!

For sure when you’re younger, not so much when you’re older, i.e. 50+ – in my humble opinion. But you’re right, it can be tricky.

Glad to see your friend was back at the birdbath. And that pansy…a little hard to believe that it could withstand snow like that…a Thanksgiving miracle perhaps? Hope you have a good time today! ;)

Safe and warm travels to NYC this afternoon. Will you watch (and listen) to the recording session? You both have fun! I miss the mourning doves that used to come into my yard. I haven’t seen them in months.

That little pansy absolutely made my day! Thanks for posting it – it truly made me smile every time I thought about it, pushing its way toward the light. Through the snow too! My favorite flower overall, I think – just love them & their little “faces.” Please tell Pappy to break a leg this afternoon! Peace.

I’ve been looking for a flower to fill in our garden blanks. I might try pansies now. Here we have cool but not much downright frigid weather. So we might get some lovely blooms. Maybe I’ll try a pot or two.

You should try them. They thrive in cooler weather, Jan.

We live in Arizona and I always have several sources of water in our backyard for the birds, especially in summer. About 5 every afternoon we have a gathering of doves at one of the dishes…one evening I counted 11 doves gathered round. We love watching birds and are enjoying seeing many of them return for the winter.

We used to have 20 or 30 mourning doves at our feeder in our backyard in San Diego. I loved to watch them!

I hope your trip to the city is a good one! I can’t wait to watch the new Netflix show. I’m busy this week with family and Thanksgiving, but will be glad for some snuggle up with hot chocolate and a new show soon!

Happy to see you Dove. I had one chasing others away from the seeds on the ground under the bird feeder the other day. Entertained me for several minutes!!

I haven’t seen any mourning doves around here lately…I guess ours have flown South…I don’t know if I ever told you but once a few years ago I look down toward the stream and there on a branch sat a white dove…never seen it since…I was hoping it was a visit from someone on the other side…maybe my wonderful brother who I miss so much…I can still hope and dream can’t I?…Sometimes it amazes me all the things Don can do…he is truly multi talented!…If that little pansy hasn’t given up then maybe we shouldn’t either…Wishing you both safe travels…

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
