Apparently that scamp, little Miss Scout, managed to get on the computer and write a blog post! And then proceeded to answer the comments. She’s a Border Collie, you know; they’re very intelligent. Ah well, it’s good to get a day off from blogging every now and then. Scout as guest blogger – it somehow makes sense.
Also, before I forget, did you know I answer your comments right on the comment page? I think most of you are aware of this, but a lot of you have asked me specific questions lately and I want to make sure you know I always answer them. My answer is always right below your comment. To make sure you see them, you can do one of two things: check back in later in the day and see if I’ve answered, or, and I think this is easiest but that’s just my opinion, check that box right below your comment that says “Notify me of follow-up comments via e-mail.” When I answer your comment, you will get an email with your original comment and my response. There you go! One of things I love about this blog of mine is the dialogue that happens in the comments – it’s a true joy for me. Scout obviously likes it as well. She tells me she had fun answering your comments.
Now. I’ve been collecting feathers lately – here at home and in Hartford. I love bird feathers. But what to do with them? How to display them? They were on top of the sideboard but any gust of wind from the window or the front door could blow them away. I’m too cheap to frame them at the moment and I’m not sure I would want to anyway. So, the other day my eyes lit on one of my flower frogs and I had an idea:
A flower frog turned feather holder.
I’m rather pleased with this simple solution.
It sits on the sideboard, along with a piece of brown transferware that holds all my acorns and pods and pine cones. My little nature center.
I used to have a bunch of wild turkey feathers but somehow I have lost them. We had a lot of turkeys hanging around on our lawn and they left me some beautiful feathers. Where the heck did I put them?
The morning glories are still going strong. I never get tired of looking at them and photographing them.
Some flowers for you on a Friday.
Happy Friday.

Oh such beauty! I love feathers too. My dad used to keep a pair of peacocks. In the fall of the year the male would lose his plume of tail feathers. We would pick them up and have bouquets of peacock feathers. I didn’t realize Scout was a border collie! I’ve only seen mostly black ones.

Peacock feathers are so gorgeous, Rachel!
Claudia in Kansas says
Hi Claudia,
I too collect feathers and blue bottles and jars. I have the kitchen window lined with the bottles and I put the feathers in the bottles and jars. This summer I made a bed spring wreath and hung it on the side of the garage. I added a bird nest that fell from a tree during a wind storm. I also added some fake bird eggs and a couple of feathers. Lately something keeps knocking the eggs out of the nest. LOL
Hugs!
Claudia says
That’s a good idea – I may put some in my blue bottles. Thanks, Claudia!

At least Scout was “man” enough not to use your logo stamp, sugar! He’s such a scamp or as I refer to our Miss Caroline, a PIP. Very clever idea using the frog. Makes me want to think of other things they could hold also.
xoxo,
Connie
Claudia says
A pip is perfect. I love that word, Connie.
Judy Ainsworth says
Claudia, I remember even as a very young child, I would collect “Natures Gifts” that she was no longer using!
Just a little reminder that Life is Good! Cute Idea. -Judy A-
Claudia says
It is indeed, Judy.

Feathers are so fascinating. I have a few, I keep them in a jar cause my cat also likes feathers.
Gotta run, my friend is coming to get me in a few minutes – it’s Friday – Yard sale day!
Smiles to you.
Linda

Have fun, Linda!

My morning glories are still going strong, too. It’s the first year I’ve had them and I thought they’d never bloom! Now, it’s cold and their leaves are dying, but the scraggly vines are loaded with buds and they just keep blooming.
Claudia says
Gosh, they sure pay off! It took a long while for mine to bloom, too.
Nancy Blue Moon says
What a unique way to display your feathers Claudia..so much nicer to have them standing up than lying down..That Scoutie girl is a little rascal isn’t she..I do enjoy it when she blogs though..I love the way Morning Glories grow and open up in their spiral shapes..so interesting..
Claudia says
Scoutie is a rascal and she’s never boring!

Using a flower frog for feathers is a great idea! I have a glass one that is my mother’s, and it just sits in the cupboard…think maybe I should use it. At first, I didn’t even know what it was…comes with it’s own short vase, too. Scout is a clever one….hijacking your blog like she did…but it’s always nice to get another perspective! ;)
Claudia says
How neat that it comes with it’s own vase!
Pat says
Claudia
Your little feathers are so pretty in the flower frog!
I didn’t plant Morning Glories this year but last year I did and almost gave up on them before they bloomed
Finally they did… And what a show! I loved them I may plant them again next year.
I have antique petunias this year and they are stil going. Pat
Claudia says
They give a great show and I’m sure it will continue until the first hard frost, which I’m hoping doesn’t happen for a long time!
LuvWheaties says
The flower frog is a great holder for your feather collection. I may have to steal the idea, although birds rarely land in my yard any more. Annabelle scared them all off years ago, and the word must still be out to avoid the Wheaten bitch in the yellow house. Graham was so thrilled that Scout answered him, by the way. He likes to get email.
Claudia says
I got a lot of my feathers in the park while I was in Hartford. And on the street! The yellow flicker feather was on a sidewalk on a busy city street.
Janet in Rochester says
More morning glories!! For as long as they last! Never tire of seeing them – especially since I always thought of them as early July flowers. Shows you how much I know… PS – loved Miss Scoutie’s blog too. I read somewhere that Border collies were the smartest of all dogs – right up there with poodles and German shepherds. Now if we could only get her to Congress! Scout in 2014!!
Claudia says
Well, I planted them late, but I’ve also heard from a lot of bloggers that their morning glories took forever to bloom.
Yay! Scout for Congress! Things would work much more efficiently.
Judy Clark says
Your frog is a good solution for your feathers! Your Morning Glories are just beautiful.
Have a happy day!
Judy
Claudia says
You too, my friend. xoxo
Betsy says
What a great idea for a flower frog use! I never would have thought of displaying feathers in one. Brilliant. I can’t figure out how to get the reply button to work on my blog. So I usually end up posting another comment. I would love to be able to follow up with emails like you do. I’m so computer illiterate, I’m lucky to be able to post anything at all.
Blessings,
Betsy

Do you have a Blogger Blog? You can enable ‘threaded comments’ in your settings and that should let you leave a comment right below the comment you’re replying to.

I love that feather display solution! ….

So simple but so effective!

I was just looking for my feather collection this morning and can’t seem to find it. Guess I will have to start collecting more. Your flowers are still beautiful. xo Laura
P.S. Scout and I are now Pen pals. :)
Claudia says
Maybe it’s with my wild turkey feathers!
Meredith says
Last year I was collecting all sorts of feathers, now it seem I can’t even find one. My eyes are open during my walks with Max just in case.
Hugs,
Mere
Claudia says
Hugs to you, sister.
Dawn says
My morning glories are looking pretty pitiful these days, I think the container they are in needs some fertilizer but it’s to close to the end of the season for me to bother. I have several frogs too and love them and use them for all sorts of things. I think it was good to point out how you return comments, not everyone knows this or realizes they can just check that box.
Claudia says
I know. I never know if a reader comes back to check or not unless they leave another comment!
Linda @ A La Carte says
What a clever way to display your feathers and still enjoy the texture of them. Tiger and I have a ‘collection’ of acorns, rocks and other items from our walks. Oh and that Scout is a very good guest blogger!
hugs,
Linda

Claudia,
I always have feather bouquets in the fall….usually a big one of my turkey ones in a vase and a smaller one in my kitchen window…but, I have to say that flower frog is way cool. I love fall….

Great use of the frog. I see those often at the Antique Mall but have never found a way to use them in our home. Have a great weekend!

The morning glory blue truly is glorious Claudia! I’ve been loving these ‘late, late summer:)!’ Images!
