A Good Snow for a Snowman

January 17, 2022 at 10:16 am by Claudia

As I sat in my chair drinking my first cup of coffee, this happened. Turns out the snow was perfect for making a big old snowball, which led to this:

Don thinks this is the first time he’s made a snowman. Remember, he grew up in San Diego. I had to give him a few tips about rolling a small ball in the snow to make it bigger, rather than the way he was doing it. Then I got him a carrot.

What it looked like this morning:

I think we got about 5 or 6 inches and it’s part snow, part ice and sleet, hence the snowball. There were supposed to be high winds last night, but if there were, I didn’t hear any. I think we got off fairly well compared to the predicted 8 or more inches. The power is on, we’re doing fine, Don made some soup yesterday, which we’re going to have for lunch, and my sweetheart got to play in the snow.

Don’s outside now, getting ready to use the snowblower.

My back is a wee bit better and I’m being very careful with it. I didn’t work on the puzzle yesterday, instead, I read a nice, healthy chunk of Cloud Cuckoo Land  by Anthony Doerr, which is exactly what I need to do to get fully invested in the story. I’m happy about that. I’ll read some more today.

And I made sure that Mei has her very own little friend.

She looks happy.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

With Cloud Cuckoo Land, I found that if I didn’t try to keep track of all of the characters, then after a while, the story came together for me. A really different book for me to read as I usually read mysteries but I ended up really enjoying it.

I got out my plastic sled from the storage building just in case we had snow. A 67 year old can still play in the snow as long as there are small hills. No need for a traditional sled as it rarely snows here and of course it didn’t snow. It’s just as well because no one knows how to drive in it here and there are a lot of accidents. I did get pleasure out of seeing Don’s snowman. He did an impressive job.

Sorry you couldn’t get a little ride on that sled, Beverly! I love that you were willing to do it!

Ours came overnight, so we just saw the end result.

I’m done with winter as well. It’s been SO cold around here that I dream of warmer weather.

      Stay safe.

glad that you are feeling some better, didn’t get even more snow than what you did, that you have a snowblower and don could have the experience of making a snowman (his first ever? whatever, he did a great job!).

    keep healing!

glad mei also has an animal of her own. do they get names, too?

sunny here so sidewalks, parking lots and streets are slushy now. will need to be careful of the re-freeze (bleh).

took it easy at home yesterday, too. just in case …. missed my family.
also wished i’d had a little treat stashed somewhere … but how can i hide it from myself so i’ll have it for a “rainy day”?!? :)

    happy, safe monday to all.

Yes, his first. He spent the first 50 years of his life on the West Coast.

We had a refreeze as well and it’s making it hard to shovel our way out of here.

      Stay safe!

Enjoy your reading time. I want to thank you for introducing me to Louise Penny. I have read several of her books and love her characters and story lines. I did not start with the first Three Pines mystery so I’m a bit out of sequence, but I may start there and read all in order.

I’m so happy you still take the time to do your blog. You are about the only one on my blog list that is still posting. In this pandemic, that is so depressing. Thanks again.

I’m happy to do it. I can’t imagine my life without blogging. I think it’s sad that so many people have abandoned their blogs.

Sweet snowman!! Glad you did not get what was predicted. Especially that wind!

We had the wee one here today and as she was wheeling her baby through the house in the baby stroller, she was “talking” up a storm. It sounded like the cutest story ever, but at 19 mos old, only she and her baby could understand. I thought of all your girls and the fun they have in their own way!!

More than half-way through January. We can do this!! Take care.

Ah, making a snowman is an acquired skill and I’m glad Don had a good guide! The snow is pretty but that ice is scary. I know you are being careful and glad you have provisions in. I hope it has eased up and passed by now. You both take care!

Still a lot of ice today as the temps plunged last night and all the snow froze. Since we aren’t getting out of the twenties today, that’s a problem.

      Stay safe, Jeanie.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
