A Little Lamp

December 23, 2018 at 10:04 am by Claudia

In the “why didn’t we think of this sooner?” category: This sweet little lamp was sitting over on the blue bench for the longest time. We hardly ever turned it on. About two weeks ago, I started thinking that it would look good on the piano. We needed some light on that end of the room.

When I brought the dollhouse home, I put it on the blue bench, and the lamp had nowhere to go. Except the piano. So, I pulled the piano from the wall and plugged it in. We rearranged things on the piano (the two little birds are now elsewhere) and, wow! We have light over there.

It makes an enormous difference. It lights up our Aquitania lithograph. It shows the grain of the mahogany. It lights up the Hymns board on the wall next to the piano. The light from the red shade that I bought a long time ago looks really wonderful. The red is picked up in the towers on the Aquitania.

And, when the piano is repaired and tuned, we will have light to read the music by.

Such a simple thing. But what a difference!

We bought that lamp after we moved out east, probably around 15 years ago. It was the very first of what would eventually be several little lamps that are scattered around our house. I like little lamps. I like lamplight. (I hate overhead lights, except the pot lights in the kitchen.) Anyway, we found it in a little antique shop in Millbrook, NY. We snagged the lamp and the kitchen cabinet/cupboard  from the same shop on the same day.

We were charmed by the boy and girl, walking together, arm-in-arm. Both are carrying flowers. She has a basket of flowers. He has a bunch of flowers that he’s holding up in his right hand. It’s so nice to see  it again.

Don tells me it’s one of his favorite things.

Look at those sweet, happy faces!

Today, I’m going to bake the linzer cookies that I baked last year. Tomorrow, I’ll be baking our annual Christmas Coffee Cake. Also on deck: some present wrapping, some Christmas music and some cleaning.

Happy Sunday.

Sweet and special little lamp. I too, adore small lamps scattered throughout my home. Your coffee cake always looks scrumptious!

That lamp is adorable. I do not like overhead lights at all so always have lamps. It is fun to move things around they get a whole new look. I’m a little tired from a certain 3yr old but have had a wonderful time. She will be going home a little later. I’ll make a quick trip to the library as a book on hold is available and I want to get it before they close for Christmas. I’ve lit a candle and put some photos of my brother on both sides of it. Lost him three years ago today and I miss him so. I need to bake cookies. I had planned to do it with Scout but we got busy with other things. Wishing you and Don a lovely Christmas.

I know how much you miss him. I do the same thing: light a candle. Thinking of you today, Linda.

That is a darling lamp…don’t remember ever seeing that one. I love to rearrange and look upon things with a fresh perspective.

I still have a few presents to wrap, give the house a quick swipe, and do some more baking. This is my second favorite holiday, the first being Thanksgiving. Christmas just wears me out, and the lists. seem never ending.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas…May it be everything that you hoped it would be! ;)

That little lamp is so cute and the red shade seems perfect for it. I baked your coffeecake one year and loved that, too. I’d planned on baking cookies and making candy, as I usually do, but we’ve received so many gifted goodies that I’m re-thinking those plans. We can eat a lot of goodies…but should we? I don’t think so. We’ll just hold out for Eggs Benedict on Christmas morning, as has been our custom for nearly fifty years! Happy Baking to you, Don, and Stella, though.

Merry Christmas to you and Don! We’ll be off in a few hours to spend today with our two daughters, sons-in-law and five grandchildren. We’re in Texas, so we’re having a tamale-inspired meal today. I’ll be bringing roasted butternut squash and black bean enchiladas since I’m vegan, but I imagine I’ll also discover a vegan birthday cake there. Tomorrow is my birthday and my oldest daughter always makes sure I have a cake. Tomorrow, we’ll be celebrating a quiet Christmas here. It’s been a hectic couple of weeks, including a cookie baking day here organized by my grandchildren and a cookie-baking day at my sister’s house two days ago. Thank you in particular for providing a safe haven in these angst-filled days this last couple of years.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
