A Little Treasure

May 17, 2025 at 8:50 am by Claudia

Over the course of 17 years, I’ve taken pictures of just about every possible “scene” inside and outside. And while those will continue, of course, I’m also going to concentrate on showcasing some favorite items that I have found/collected/inherited.

First up, my tiniest Wallace Nutting. As you know, I have a very modest collection of Wallace Nutting prints – I think there are 5 of them. Nutting was a minister, photographer, and artist who lived in New England. He photographed New England landscapes as he bicycled around the countryside. He had a studio where colorists hand tinted the photographs. They were hugely popular. He also designed furniture.

I really love his tinted photographs.

The frame, which is quite old, measures 4½” x 5½” and the photo is 2″ x 3″.

I love the carving on the frame.

I haven’t purchased a Nutting in several years, but I try to find them with the original frame and backing. Not always easy! There is a seller in a nearby antique mall who carries some of Nutting’s work. I haven’t been to that mall in a while, so I’m not sure if he’s still there. One Christmas or birthday, Don gave me an official biography of Nutting, signed by Nutting himself. I think he found it in the same seller’s booth.

This little gem lives on the bookshelves in the den.

Thunderstorms on the docket today – it’s quite humid this morning. I had planned on mowing, but I’ll have to wait a day or two. That’s probably for the best as the temperatures will be cooler starting tomorrow.

There’s a noisy crow outside. He’s quite vocal!

Oh, I walked down to Phileas’ abode and, though I didn’t actually see him – he was too quick, I heard him jump from the grass to the water. He landed with a “plop!” He hangs out on the lawn, apparently, which means we will make sure we’re noisy when we come to mow in order to give him a head’s up.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

I have the Wallace Nutting that was in our family home for as long as I can remember. It is titled: The Unbroken Flow. I’ve always treasured it.

beautiful (and not much bigger than my cellphone)! glad you have several nuttings and the biography.

good luck with the mowing and the weather.

hope you have a nice weekend.

continuing to sort things, bring lighter and sentimental things over, and take a few little breaks. a good thunderstorm would be nice here, a reason to stay home and maybe watch a movie. instead we’ve had a couple days of high winds. oh well …

Love your Wallace Nutting print. My husband and I are Wallace Nutting fans, too. We have 4 books about him and a couple of prints all collected many years ago when they were not quite so expensive. Have a happy weekend. Hugs, Elaine

Your collections are very interesting to me. Thank you for sharing. I mowed on Monday and noticed I had tunnels in my lawn from a mole, I think? Anyone has any ideas how to remove them I’d be interested in learning. He/They are tearing up my lawn….Frustrating.

We had so much wind yesterday in Nebraska it was impossible to be outside. It sure ruins a good day.

    Have a good weekend.

I’ve had them – a mole or a vole, but they eventually went away and I don’t try to remove them, so I have no tips. For some reason, I only see the holes after a long winter.

      Good luck, Darlene.

      Stay safe.

Claudia, you are so generous to share with us aspects of your personal life. I love seeing what you collect and how mindful you are about selecting what to buy and then taking such good care of your items. I love that you have most of your things out so you and Don can enjoy them, and not squirreled away.

I have no place to store things, but I would have them out anyway. I love to see them.

      Thanks so much, Wendy.

I’ve always loved Nutting’s photos, though I don’t have any. Too pricey in my region, but still, they are gems. You are lucky to find some in original frames or even frames of the period. The photo will look wonderful no matter what it is in but so much more authentic in the real deal. That one is a beauty.

    Have a wonderful, mellow weekend.

I have two Wallace Nutting’s that I love. Our frames are the same or very similar. I have always thought his signature was very calming and serene looking.
Cold rain and snow this weekend, but by mid-week spring warmth will return.

    Take Care,
    Kaye

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
