My back is still acting up, so I’m having to limit my activities. It’s so annoying! No mowing, or vacuuming, and only the most careful bending over. It’s slowly getting better, so I’m doing a lot of reading. I’ve also been keeping an eye on Mama Catbird. So far, all seems to be well.
The level of water in the culvert is very low after a long period of it being rather high. How does this impact our Phileas? Don says he briefly saw him yesterday, and I saw him the day before. But we haven’t had a whole lot of rain recently. I hope we’re not heading into the drought segment of the summer.
I took this yesterday:

This is taken from the entrance to the porch, so we’re looking at the side of the house, the entrance to the side door, and part of the funky patio. So far, it’s pretty lush out there! And the coneflowers are everywhere. As you know, they are my favorite part of the summer garden. The splash of purple in the background is the patch of balloon flowers (more this year than ever) and those are zinnias in the metal tub on the patio.
But it is so darned hot and humid out there! We’re feeling trapped in the house. I don’t know when the humidity will lift, but it can’t come soon enough.
A wee little package arrived yesterday.

New shoes for the girls. I usually buy a pair or two of shoes from my favorite shoe maker, Cora, about once a year. The pair on the left is a new design, with a pointier toe. The pair on the right is a favorite design. She threw in the socks, which was a delightful surprise.
Since I was sitting here nursing my back for long periods, I noticed that Zoe, who was wearing a cute denim dress, looked hot. It was way too heavy for a hot and humid summer day. So we switched to a summer dress.

You might notice that she’s wearing the new shoes.
Much cooler!
Gosh, she’s a beauty.
Today, more resting is on the docket. (I’ve also had to delay washing the bedsheets.)
Stay safe.
Happy Friday.

Those shoes! They’re absolutely ! I’d like to see them being crafted. They new style is so cute. Lucky girls! Hope the humidity ends soon…and I really hope your back is feeling better soon. Take care.
Thanks so much, Barrie.

Oh, dear, hope your back gets better soon. Cute shoes. Zoe is sweet in her summer frock. Hugs, Elaine
Thanks so much, Elaine.
Stay safe.
Sorry to hear about your back. Hope it heals up soon.
I saw this video on another blog and thought of you guys and your beautiful gardens and wildlife there.
Have a pleasant weekend, Claudia.
Thanks so much.
Stay safe.
glad you are tending to your back instead of the garden and chores like laundry. those things can wait; feeling better cannot. hope you feel better soon!
those shoes are adorable. i would like to see how such tiny things are made.
we received 1.7 inches of rain and hours of lightning and thunder last night. loved it, but not the winds. thanking God our two trees are safe, but sadly five trees in this small circle of townhomes are likely lost. all of them are 30+ years old, probably close to 40 feet tall and one of them (that was completely torn out by the root-ball) was only two doors away from us. saw even more damage on a walk this morning. sad.
that and eight annoying chigger bites (for the past thirteen days) is about the extent of my “news” here, but want to say hej and send wishes and prayers for a good weekend ahead for everyone. stay safe in every way.
kathy
I’m sorry for the loss of the trees – always a very sad thing to witness.
Stay safe, Kathy.
Zoe looks adorable, especially with her colorful frock and new shoes.
Sorry to hear about your back. It doesn’t take much sometimes to throw it out of whack.
I just got done planting some big marigolds to compliment my coneflowers…next year, more coneflowers will be planted. It’s raining here, again. Very tired of the humidity here….looking forward to a cooler time of year at this point. Enjoy your day! ;)
I am so sick of the humidity. My brain feels like mush.
Stay safe, Donna.
We are experiencing the exact same summer! Humidity and rain…the gardens seem to be loving it much more than the humans! I had to reach out (so rare) and let you know my husband and I started watching Mr.Robot, new release on netflicks…Don got a huge reaction in my house “I know him!!” As I explained to husband, well, I dont really know him. But, I know him…friends that have never met….he was wonderful, such a presence on the screen…it was an unexpected delight! You are so right, he is a talent that we should see more of!…..maybe something good will come your way, fingers crossed!…..happy summer!
Oh, thank you! Don really enjoyed working on that show. I’ll pass your message along to Don.
Thanks so much, Pati.
Stay safe.
Your garden is looking lovely and so is Zoe. Those shoes are adorable. Hope you are better today!
Slowly but surely, Jeanie.
Thanks!
Stay safe.
