A Rainy Monday. A Rainy Week.

May 5, 2025 at 8:57 am by Claudia

A little peek at things on the porch.

We are in a stretch of rain-filled days. This morning I looked at the weather app and they’ve added an additional day of rain. It looks like we won’t get a chance to mow until the end of the week and that means the grass will be VERY long. I did sneak in a mow of the corral and back forty on Saturday. Shouldn’t have done it, as I wasn’t feeling well, but I did. However, I did take it easy yesterday and it looks like I’ll have no choice but to do the same for most of this week. The gray skies and endless rain are depressing, but I will say that the “green” out there is very intense and beautiful.

We watched Poltergeist  the other night. I hadn’t seen it since it first came out, so it was almost as if I was seeing it for the first time. It’s so good! Though it’s kind of a period movie now, unlike other movies made in the early 80s, the time setting doesn’t reduce its impact. It’s full of powerful performances, not the least of which is that of Jobeth Williams. She is extraordinary. Anyway, I was riveted. I actually had to leave my chair and go sit with Don so he could ‘protect’ me. It was on TCM.

The same talented seamstress that made this dress for Ruby also sent her a bucket hat.

I mean, how adorable is that?

As you can see, I’m getting a wee bit back into the dolls, but it’s hard to get motivated given what’s going on in the real world. I have to force myself to take a picture of them. Or redress them. A couple girls still have their winter sweaters on. Bad mom!

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

Love that big plant rack with the pretty purple flowers in the pots! Looks great.
Hope you get a dry day during the week so you can get the mowing done.
    Take care of yourself, Claudia.

I think if we only have one day without rain, it will still be too wet to mow. But…maybe things will get better.

      Stay safe, Ellen.

Love the apron set into the waist seam – that would be a great addition to a little girl’s dress, wouldn’t it?

And your porch flowers look beautiful and now they are done for the summer!

Hope you feel better soon. The pollen is fierce here too and my eyes feel full of sand. The price we pay for trees, eh?

It would. It’s such an adorable design.

      Pollen is out of control!

      Stay safe, Ceci.

Ruby is so sweet in her new hat. Your purple petunias are pretty. Enjoy the rainy weather. Time to read. Hugs, Elaine

They’re not petunias, Elaine. They are calibrachoa. Much longer lasting – they’ll last until the first hard freeze.

      Thanks!

      Stay safe.

Ruby’s looking cute! Looks like our weekend (and morning) weather is moving your way. My yard, too, is beginning to look like No-Mow May. I’d consider it if I didn’t live in a relatively tidy neighborhood! Well, after several days as you’re having we are seeing our first burst of sun and some blue sky. Hope you get it soon.

It’s already moved this way. It’s been here since Saturday. Rain every day, all day. And it will be here through Thursday.

We need to keep on top of the mowing because we don’t have a rider mower.

Glad you’re going to see some sun, Jeanie.

      Stay safe.

You did a fine job with Roxy. I can only imagine how hard it was to make her. Dad and I both have our new passports. We’re not going anywhere. My husband would never travel. My dad’s not going anywhere unless he starts on oxygen. And he won’t (not sure). I miss writing my journal, it’s been probably close to 3 months that I last wrote. I think you should see a dr, Claudia. I am a person of faith and I am praying for you. – irene

For what? I have lifelong allergies and a bad back, both of which I am very familiar with. I don’t need to go to a doctor. This happens every spring. I was out in the wind with pollen flying everywhere – that made me sick. I appreciate your concern, but I speak about this every spring.

I didn’t do anything in terms of making Ruby. I attached her head to a body. That’s it. The designer of the doll did everything.

      Thanks.

      Stay safe.

My husband has bad allergies in the spring too. Where you live it sounds really lovely, with lots of trees and flowers and you’re more in the countryside. It’s not like that here. I wish! Sorry. Take care!

    Claudia,

What a pretty arrangement on your porch. Love the jardiniere. Well, think of all the free water our plants are soaking up. I have to wait until the pollen lets up a bit before I tackle my back porch. I too suffer from allergies and between the headache, runny nose and generally lousy feeling I am not in the best of moods. I have been binge watching PBS and Channel 21 …that remain under attack by the dictator , Donny 2dolls. Okay, I wont go there. Just a thank you for the pretty photos and looking forward to more as the weather warms up and our allergies clear up.

Thank you, Maria. And you’re most welcome!

      Here’s to allergy relief!

      Stay safe.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
