A Sniffly, Snuffly, Rainy Sort of Day

Feeling stuffed up and coughy (I made up that word) today. I’m sure it’s just allergies/sinuses. Or maybe it’s because I insist on petting our neighbor’s cats when we go over to feed them. I’m allergic to cats, but usually if I wash my hands right after I’ve touched a cat, I’m okay. The cats are so adorable and full of personality and they miss their human family members. So Don and I, suckers for animals that we are, go over and spend a little time with them. (We’ll actually miss seeing them every day when our neighbors arrive home late this evening.) I know a lot of you commented that we are good neighbors because we shoveled their driveway and are watching the pets, but they are equally good neighbors. I cannot tell you how many times I have called our neighbor to ask if she could go over and let our dog(s) out when we are working long hours away from home. She is always there for us.

I think I will be low-key today and play with the dollhouse. It’s rainy and just plain yucky out there. And I’m tired and sniffly. I’m going to try making a few things and I just may paint the work table I’m going to use in the craft room. There’s much to be done in the dollhouse, but things are slowing down right now until I have the funds to buy a few pieces. In the meantime, I might try making one of Léa’s projects (from the book I received for Christmas.) I’m not real confident about my miniature-making skills, but I’m going to go for it.

By the way, I’m going to be contributing a monthly Guest Pick Ideabook for Houzz. I just completed my first Ideabook; Set Up a Comfy Reading Corner. It’s on the sidebar, if you’re at all interested. I had a lot of fun putting it together.

Bed update: Yesterday the headboard arrived. It was snowing, we hadn’t shoveled yet, and here comes a guy from FedEx slogging up the driveway with a huge box on his back. I felt terrible! Still in my pajamas (of course) I opened the kitchen door, apologized to him and told him to “just set it down in the snow.” I wouldn’t even let him take it to the porch, I felt so badly.

Anyway, it’s here. And later in the day, our UPS guy arrived with the mattress pad.

Two down. We still need the sheets, the dust ruffle and the bed frame. Gotta have the bed frame, so cross your fingers that it arrives in time. Since it snowed all day yesterday, I haven’t gone out to look for a blanket. Maybe tomorrow.

Happy Saturday.

Sounds like your room is coming together :) Can’t wait to see it all put together. It is raining here again today too, if this continues we will have no snow and only mud. Yuck!

Of course, we can’t put the new bed together until the last minute as we have to sleep on our current bed….I’m constantly thinking about the timing of the whole thing.
Yes, rain, mud and yuck here, too.

I love that first picture, Claudia! MyHero is allergic to cats, too. When we lost our last one he said, No more! I miss having a kitty around but I have 2 kids that visit that are allergic to animals, too. It feels weird to not have a pet anymore.
Can’t wait to see your bedroom all put together. I bet you can’t wait either. Poor Fedex guy! lol At least you had pjs on and not a negligee!;>) Have a great “hunkered in” sort of day- xo Diana

Don likes cats more than I do, probably because he’s had one or two as pets in his lifetime. I used to work part-time at a Veterinarian’s office and I grew to really like them. But….allergies. We’re really dog people at heart.
Thank god I didn’t’ a negligee on – but then again, I’m not the negligee type!

I have to tell you, sometimes when you post a picture….. it takes me a moment or two to process whether it is a picture of miniatures in the doll house, or regular furniture in MHC. Too funny!!
It is so much fun to get packages, isn’t it? I LOVE the smiling Amazon boxes when they arrive. They do make me happy regardless of what is inside.
We had ice last night. Yuk. It is beginning to melt as the temperatures are finally rising.
Trying to finish putting all of Christmas away today. When I worked FT, it was down and put away in less than two days. Now I am retired, and I keep thinking “what’s the rush?” However, after a week of plucking away at this, the mess on the dining room table has finally beaten me down and it is time to complete the task.
    Have a wonderful weekend!!

Well, that’s neat! I like that it isn’t always clear which house we’re talking about!
It is really yucky out there today. Lots of rain, fog, melting snow and mud. Truly an ‘unattractive’ day!
Thank goodness we’re tucked inside our little cottage. Have a great weekend Chris!

    Hi Claudia-
I put my doll house away for the time being, because I’m just so behind on my REAL housekeeping. I decided that I’d use my doll house as a reward. When I get certain projects done–then I can play around with it AS MY REWARD! :) Otherwise– I’m obsessed with it.
As to the sniffles…you said you had to dust and vacuum behind the bookshelf. Moving furniture ALWAYS makes me sniffly the next day. The Honey laughs– but any time I move furniture now…I wear a hygienic mask Or a bandanna lately, since I haven’t replaced my stock of masks. :/ The dust can be HECK ON THE OL’ SINUSES!
Our delivery guys only have to worry about mud when it’s raining here… hardly ever snow…and NEVER the amounts that y’all get.
-have fun with the doll house. Pat

I saw your post on Houzz last night! First I was drawn to the topic, then in seeing the name, I thought “why does that sound so familiar?” And then there was your photo and I knew. Great post, Claudia – what a Renaissance woman you are – is there anything you CAN’T do? PS – don’t you love Houzz? I must have 1000s of saved photos there. When I hit the lottery, I’m going to be Ready-to-Build. Or renovate. I’ve even found the architect I want, thanks to Houzz. Of course, with my luck, he’ll be knee-deep in other projects when my ship comes in. LOL. Enjoy your “miniature” day and feel better soon.

OH my gosh how exciting. Can’t wait to see it all together. The frame didn’t come w/the headboard? Can’t wait to see your bedding and dust ruffle. I sort gave up putting a dust ruffle on my Calf King since I had my back fusion surgery. Lifting that mattress by yourself is not easy. I sometimes wonder about those Fed Ex and UPS guys, they do a lot for us.
Feel better soon, I’m getting over bronchitis that started with a cold in early December, and now we have winds coming in for four days!

No, headboard usually comes separately, unless you’re buying one of those all-in-one beds (too expensive for me!
I’m going to put that dust ruffle on the box springs very quickly before the guys come back with the mattress! You feel better, too, Annette!

I don’t know if you have ever shopped at qvc but you might want to take a look. Just go to QVC.COM and once there type in California king in the search box. I have bought their linens and they are made of good quality materials. I usually shop their clearance products or their easy pay items. You don’t have to pay interest on the easy pay items and you have 30 days to return it with no additional costs. I saw 2 sets of sheets for $19.00 the other day. Check it out.

I hope your allergies are getting under control, Claudia. I consider myself fortunate in not having any. How the mighty are fallen; a pharmacist just suggested a nasty red rash on my face may be the result of some kind of allergy. I’m bowing out of an out of town dinner this evening so as not to frighten the cousins and serving staff.

Hope you are feeling better. I like the blue shelves with the doors. I was wondering how it would look with a mirror behind it? i have something similar in my entryway of my real house. I added a mirror and like it. The walls behind mine are white. I love old mirrors that have some of the back missing in places and it softens the amount of light they reflect.

I agree with Chris. I sometimes think the pictures of the doll house are of the furnishings of MBHC. Hope your allergies calm down soon. Glad you have neighbors you can depend on and who can depend on you. We have had the same next door neighbors on both sides of us for twenty years. We have all gone through a lot of life’s changes together. Wouldn’t trade them for anything. Looking forward to further updates.

That was made for me by a blog reader who is a miniaturist – she made it to match my aqua McCoy “Singing Birds” that I have on my piano. Isn’t it amazing? The kitties really miss their family. Thank goodness all will be reunited tonight! That’s if the fog doesn’t delay their plane. It is VERY foggy around here and has been that way all day long.

Can’t wait for those photos of the organized re-vamped bedroom! Sounds like it is coming together quickly now that you guys made up your minds to do it! :D Crazy weather, it snowed here yesterday as well but the heavy rains and warm temperatures have melted a lot of the snow. I can actually see grass in many spots in the yard now; very unusual for a New Hampshire winter! I won’t complain about the 52 degrees however! :D

What a blessing it is to have neighbors you can count on…I’m currently watching my neighbor’s cat, too. And bringing in their mail and watering their plants. She is more of a friend rather than “just” a neighbor though. Sorry to hear you’re allergic to cats. I’m allergic to certain breeds of dogs – so far, I’ve discovered it’s Labs and Boxers. From petting them and them licking my hands, I break out in itchy little hives all over my hands and wrists. Very cool about Houzz…in fact, thank you for reminding me about that site! I’ve kind of put looking at Houzz on the back burner since getting involved with Pinterest.

Sorry to hear your feeling under the weather, hope you feel better soon, chicken noodle soup always works wonders! I started watching Poisoners Handbook the other night but feel asleep like I always do on the couch. It had been a long day. My four legged alarm clock had me up at 4:00 am to go out plus we had to go to PA that morning for a class my husband’s work had signed him up for, he is a mechanic. It was very cold -01, brrrrrrr. But… I was able to watch it today. We have cable and it was listed on ON-DEMAND. Tell Don GOOD JOB! The movie was very interesting. Glad to hear your new bed is coming together. Stay warm!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
