It’s Ruby’s first Christmas here, so I had to take the obligatory picture in front of the little tree in the den.
There will be 3 more photos coming, as I adopted 4 girls last year – Audrey, the other Little Keiko girl, Gilly – Ruby’s sister, and Myoshi, my Blythe from Japan.
It was a lovely weekend. We have a tradition here in our family. When it’s the day of your birthday, the following week is also your birthday. I’m on Day 4 of my birthday week and I intend to make the most of it. This year, Thanksgiving falls during my birthday week, so I’ll ge some pumpkin pie in addition to the delicious piece of chocolate cake I had on the actual day.
We’ve had some really cold temps lately and I suspect more of the porch plants have expired – especially the impatiens. Since today is sunny and a bit warmer, I’m going to dispose of some of the plants and store the pots in the shed. So far, the hanging plants are still ‘hanging’ in there, as well as the lobelia. The calibrachoa is almost ready to give up. It’s also time to bring in the cushions from the glider and the chair, and….drape our Christmas lights on the porch railing!
The doll’s cubbies are decorated. I located the deer in a little box here in the den, right before I spent an entire morning pulling things out of the crammed-full closet in the office because I couldn’t find two of the dollhouse Christmas trees. Turns out, I’d put them in a plastic bin to protect them, but I have no recollection of doing that. Yikes. Hopefully, I’ll remember that next year, but these days, it’s a bit of a crap shoot.
Don has to have a shot in his eye today. Poor guy!
I just picked up the newest Thursday Murder Club mystery from the library – “The Impossible Fortune.” This will most definitely get my reading mojo going again. I started it last night. By the way, I didn’t like the movie version of the first book. Not at all. The actors are wonderful of course, but they killed off one of the characters who has not been killed off in the books, and they eliminated all of Joyce’s journal/diary entries, which are absolutely funny and charming. They’re my favorite part of the books and they also advance the plot. I had to keep telling Don that the books were much better than the movie indicates, because he was not impressed.
Okay, my friends. This 73 year old is going to tackle some chores.
Stay safe.
Happy Monday.

A birthday week sounds fun… and more so with extra desserts! Sounds like the Christmas decorating is moving along and the girls are fitting right in.
Thanks so much, Barrie.
Stay safe.
John always said I had a month of birthday!! LOL Judy Clark
Love that, Judy! He was such a great guy.

I’m ready because I have to be in order to remain sane. I need an antidote to the horrors happening in our country.
I’m grateful for the holidays and the chance to start them early.
Stay safe, Kathy.
lights and other good things sure do bring happiness, are helpful distractions. glad you’re getting them.
think my sister and i will probably do a bit here early next month, but haven’t decided about decorations yet.

I also have a birthday month. Mine was in October. I am getting frustrated because I am missing some of my Christmas decorations! Our garage is a disaster so I am sure they are out there somewhere. I have to dig into that mess tomorrow. Bill said maybe we took that box to Goodwill…..what?! That better not be the case otherwise somebody had a great day thriftng! The search continues. Take care!
I hope you find them, Deb!
Stay safe.
Ruby looks great in that outfit! I have no new blythe dolls, just some new clothes.
My birthday is in October, just before our Thanksgiving. I received lots of cards and congrats on facebook. Loved that. Plus a pretty tiny gold necklace from mike. Glad you’re having a whole birthday week.
We had a bit of a snow storm today.
Thanks so much, Irene.
Stay safe.
Keep enjoying birthday week! I hope you show photos of the doll houses decorated for the holiday. Even though I don’t usually decorate before TG, yesterday circumstances changed and I might start early. We’ll see. Stamina is at a minimum. I love Ruby! And well done on keeping your plants going so long.
Thanks, Jeanie.
Take care of yourself, my friend.
Stay safe.
Thanks for the heads up about the latest book from Thursday Murder Club mystery. I’ve placed a hold on it at my library.
I’m hosting Thanksgiving so I have lots to do. Today is cleaning day but of course I had to read my blogs first! ;)
Have a lovely holiday, Ellen.
Stay safe.
dear Claudia/Don — sounds like your bday was a good one — hope it continues all year!! of course, the mother/grandmother in me would remind you to eat “balanced” meals even for bday, holidays, etc –a splurge once in a while also does you good, haha!! glad you have a special guy to share life with — I have one of those and am so thankful.
sometimes, it feels like I am in some kind of nightmare without an ending — am so FED UP w/our Congress, Pres, Senate, Supreme Court that I want to scream but know it would only cause a sore throat without making any difference to those with all the “power”. Really can NOT believe the condition of our country — what a disgrace. Sorry for the rant — should not write anything when my Irish is up!!
You know that rainy mess you all have now?? it was here overnight/left a mess here too.
stay safe/healthy
It rained all night last night. We need the rain desperately so I’m fine with it.
Stay safe, Linda.
