A View From The Pew

March 12, 2019 at 10:53 am by Claudia

I thought you might enjoy this view. Monty, still sporting his holiday garland, the pew, and off in the distance, the vintage dollhouse.

I see evidence of snow melt out there. I can tell the height of the snow has shrunk. Huzzah! The big piles that grew from shoveling will take longer, but eventually, they’ll be gone, too.

During our second cup of coffee this morning, I read the Mary Oliver poem I posted yesterday to Don. Then he read a poem by William Carlos Williams about Spring. In that poem Williams describes the brown and dead looking landscape perfectly. And we agreed that it’s hard to imagine my garden emerging from all that brown, dry, seemingly dead landscape. Or wildflowers emerging. Or daffodils pushing up from the ground. The rebirth that never fails to stun us with its beauty.

We spent the late morning and early afternoon with Rick, Doug, and Doug’s daughter, Alecia. She’s headed back to Japan today (where she teaches at a university) and we wanted to see her one more time. I got to know her last year, but Don was in NYC at the time, so he didn’t have that chance. They got to spend some time chatting together yesterday. As always, great conversation, lots of laughter, and time with Sam. We all went outside and threw his ball for him as he raced back and forth on the snow.

Then we realized that it looked like Don’s gas tank was leaking. Gulp. So Don drove over to his mechanic’s station and I followed. Turns out, it’s a leak from the line that goes from the gas cap to the tank and it only happens when the tank has been topped off. But we’re going to get the line replaced today.

All of this took up much of the day, so I will answer your comments from yesterday’s post this morning, right after I finish writing this post.

Contemplating sorting through all the stuff in the white armoire/cabinet in the living room. There’s much that can be tossed. And after it’s tossed, it will be easier to move the cabinet a few inches to the left. We’ll see if I get around to that.

Happy Tuesday.

that is a charming view of the pew and den! thanks for sharing.

good luck with the gas line replacement. glad you caught the leak when in a more convenient place, among friends, rather than having trouble on the road or somewhere more isolated!

happy sorting and really happy snow-melting!

Oh, the tank was still full, but the leak was rather alarming. There’s still more than enough gas in the tank.
      Thanks, Kathy!

Rick and Doug seem to be the only friends you speak of
Have you found it more difficult to make friends on the east coast?
    The pew looks smashing!

We have lots of friends and acquaintances. We work in the theater, after all. And I have spoken about them. But my best friends are from childhood and they don’t live locally. I don’t spend a lot of time talking about my relationships. They are private.

We speak about Rick and Doug because I’ve known Rick for over 30 years and the fact that they relocated from San Diego to our neighborhood after Rick’s retirement is a miracle. And I told that story on the blog.

As for the rest…I don’t share everything about my life. Not by a long shot.

The pew fits perfectly there! It beckons you to pause…and gaze at the McCoy, and the vintage dollhouse beyond. Almost, like it was meant to be…I think it was! If you are tackling the cabinet today…good luck with that. I usually have to be in the mood to sort and disperse…lol.

That must have been a scare with the gas tank…glad you are able to get it fixed easily.

The sun is brightly shining today…and I anticipate lots of melting before the rains come starting tonight. Hope you have good melting too! ;)

Probably not tackling it today. I’m a wee bit too lazy today!

      Yay for melting!

I am glad you had some time to spend with your friend’s daughter-and that Don got a chance to get to know her a bit.
Happy purging–I need to do a bit of that myself. xoDiana

Was the poem from William Carlos Williams that Don read, Spring and All?

Yay for snow melt! And for getting to know others! And for wonderful finds like small pews!

However, boo to purging…yay for the space that’s recovered, but oh, the process! I’ve made a lot headway in purging. But feel I can do more. We’ll see what this week brings…

This purging will feel good, though I didn’t get to it today. It’s something I’ve been meaning to do for a long time.

I love Monty. I am very partial to cow statues and paintings. I can’t remember seeing him in any previous pictures. Have you had him long?

Oh, yes. Monty has been featured many times on the blog. We’ve had him about 18 years.

What a great view of a charming happy home. We had a lot of melting today in CT. I’m about to go get my boots on and trek over to the back of the backyard and clip some forsythia to force inside. It always helps get me through this time of year. I also feel a purge coming on. That’s another sign of spring for me.

I should do that, too. We have forsythia growing on the edge of the property. Thanks, Deb!

And I love the view of the pew and beyond. Smart move, elevating the dollhouse. It looks perfect!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
