Home. The gardens are overgrown, weeds are everywhere. Though some plants are blooming in a rather spectacular fashion, others are fading. I’m seeing that mid-August decline that means autumn is around the corner. I planted lots of zinnias in the spring and this is the only one that has bloomed, though the others are not far behind.
I yanked a few weeds yesterday evening, but I have lots more to pull. When I asked Don during our drive home if he had weed wacked, he said no, even though I had told him all about the batteries being fully charged and ready to go before I left. Oy.
When Don pulled into the parking lot at the apartment in Hartford, I ran down to meet him and Miss Scout was in the back seat looking out the window. When I walked up to the window, she was so excited to see me that she was trembling. We had a little adventure; she rode in the elevator, pounced with joy as she explored the apartment and the three of us took a walk in the park.
Oh, how I missed her.
Isn’t she a beauty?
Today’s agenda involves lots of the aforementioned weed wacking, weeding the garden beds, and some mowing. Yay! And, like a kid home from college for the weekend, I have to do my laundry.
This is where my girl is stationed at the moment. In the ‘tunnel.’
Happy Sunday.

You bet!
missy says
Wait til the weeds get talller..Then you don’t have to bend over to pull them.. Hope you’re having a good visit..
Claudia says
They are pretty tall already, Missy!
Dawn says
Glad to hear you made it home safe, but sorry you have so much work to do. I think it will all be worth it all though, just so you can be home:)
Claudia says
Exactly!
Mary says
It’s work yes, but it gives you good feelings of being home for a little while……..and of course they’ll be less to do when you get back home next time! Naughty Don – sounds like he despises the weed whacker as much as Bob! He can never get the d— thing started (ours is a gas model) and then when the string needs fixing it takes him longer than mowing the entire lawn – and I hear many bad words coming from the back deck! Bob has to really be upset to use bad words BTW!
Take care – enjoy today and safe travels back to Hartford.
Hugs – Mary
Claudia says
Yes. He bought the weed wacker as penance for letting everything get overgrown one year. But he hardly every uses it!
Lori says
That little girl, Scout is a beauty. She’s in doggie paradise with both her mommy and daddy home :)

Love the Zinnia! In my garden I’m watching the race between impending cold weather and the morning glory buds…which will win? Nobody knows. I’m pulling for the morning glories. Oh, and did I miss the book giveaway last week? How’d that go?
Claudia says
Oh, thanks for the reminder! I’ve been so busy that I forgot to announce it. The winner is Connie of LIving Beautifully. I’ll post her name tomorrow.
And I have yet to get a bud on my morning glories – I planted them too late this year!
Debra says
Happy Sunday, Cllaudia. I’m so glad you got to spend some time at home. Your post made me smile.
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Debra!
An Enchanted Cottage says
Awww, glad you’re home Claudia. All I could think of was Dorothy while reading it, “There’s no place like home, there’s no place like home,” you get the idea… And Toto, although very handsome, has nothing on Scout, that’s for sure! She is a beauty :)

These guys can be so stubborn when it come to doing something they don’t like to do..then there is us women who just do what we have to do and get it over with..must be something in the hormones I guess..lol..Have a great day together..all of you..it’s looking like rain here again..
Claudia says

So glad to see you made it home to find time in the garden…sadly my work is not allowing that…soon though.

So glad you had a chance to come home for a few days! I love that color of zinnia… it’s the most perfect shade of pinkish-purple!
Linda @ A La Carte says
As long as you are home, it is a good day!
Vera says
So glad you made it home Claudia! Scout is such a beauty! Lovely pictures. Enjoy your gardens (even with the weeds) and some “down” time.
Julie says
Hey Claudia – so glad you made it home. Looks like the perfect Sunday but I think you should stay in your jammies and keep making that tunnel for Miss Scout. So much more important than weed whacking!J
Jane says
I’m so, so glad you have the time to be home, I would be going crazy to see my dogs…they’re like innocent children lost in the upheaval of separation.
I’m the last one to preach about cleaning up the weeds, etc. I know it’s all about claiming our place and keeping our hands busy. It’s about home and makes us feel like we are picking up where we left off. But take some time…have an impromptu picnic on the porch with Scout and Don…take a long walk, watch TV in bed. Savor this time! You’ll take the memories back to Hartford and hopefully they will sustain you until you three meet up again.
XO,
Jane
Sally says
Drink in your time at home with Scouty and Don!
I thought of you today as we drove out to the Huntington Library and Joni came on the radio singing California … ( then The Byrds My Back Pages and Traffic’s John Barleycorn … such great music ).
Linda @ Itsy Bits And Pieces says
OH Scout is a heart stealer…so tender how she misses you…
Laura says
How wonderful that you got to go home for the weekend! Indeed Scout looks lovely in that picture – as she always does! Toby and Dexter say hello to Scout – Toby is feeling ‘under the weather today’ – he had his yearly shots – and some blood workup since he is to have his teeth cleaned this Thursday – plus, he had to be put on antibiotics for some Gingivitis and a couple of bad teeth that will be pulled when they do the cleaning. No matter how much we clean his teeth, he just is a builder of bad things going on in his mouth. He will not be feeling well at all come Thursday afternoon! Tell Scout to say a little doggie prayer for him. I so worry when they have to go through anesthetics!
Have a good week Claudia! Before you know it, your time there at your play will be done and you will be back home with your loved ones and your garden!
