The snow stopped falling by mid-afternoon. It was a heavy, wet mess – pretty – but a mess.
We had our last run-through in the rehearsal room and today, the actors move onstage. This day will be for what is called ‘spacing’ – getting used to the levels on the stage, to trap doors, to movements on and off stage, going through the entire play to adjust to the set. Tomorrow, tech rehearsals will begin and will continue through Wednesday. Thursday will be the first Preview performance.
I don’t need to be there for Spacing or for the first Tech day, so I’m going home for a couple of days and I’ll come back on Monday so that I can check into tech rehearsal on Tuesday to see how the actors are doing and get a sense of the way their voices are working in the space.
I just finished The Kill by Jane Casey and now I’m all caught up. I started that series with the most recent book, After the Fire, which I reviewed on Just Let Me Finish This Page. I was so taken with Casey’s writing that I did what I often do: I went back and read all of the previous books in the series in order. She’s that good. Now, I’m left waiting for her next book to come out, whenever that will be.
Now, I’m headed back into the Susan Hill Simon Serrailler series, picking up where I left off. The Shadows in the Street will be accompanying me on my trip home.
Scout’s had a bit of a tough week and, consequently, so has Don. I hope to take some of the responsibility for our girl off of Don’s shoulders while I’m home. Every day we assess our girl’s quality of life. That’s where we are right now. I know you understand.
Okay. Have to get moving. Have to dig the car out. Have to get on the road.
Happy Saturday.

Dear Claudia, hope your journey home goes smoothly and you fall into the arms of your smiling beloved waiting at the cottage door, haha! Having time with him, and Ms. Scout, will be just like a mini vacation! Enjoy the moments.

Lesley Walker says
Dear Claudia, I know how you feel only too well. I had to let my 22 year old cat go. We’d been through so much together, that I could hardly remember life before her, and certainly, not after!
What really tore me up was that she didn’t actually have an illness, just old age. This was over 30 years ago, yet I still dream about her, and every night I call her, and she comes running to me. It’s so real it can’t be just a dream. I know she’s waiting for me. I know she’s not really gone. Sorry, this is not at all what I meant to write, but your story shadows mine, all those years ago. Maybe I’m getting senile, but I still love Sheba as much as I did all those years ago. Blessings and hugs to Scout.
Claudia says
Thank you, Lesley.

Vicki says
Dogs are so sensitive to change in routine; she’s maybe ‘off’ because of your absence but, if she was a human, she’d tell you she understands, and that she understands your work. Bless dear Scout. She’s such a love and Don is clearly doing the best he can but, yes, it can begin to wear on one person when there’s no pinch hitter, no differently than if you both were caring for an elderly parent under your roof and one of you needs a change of scenery.
The snow is lovely but I’m glad you can get out of that for a few days…unless it’s just as bad in NY. Take care; thinking of you, Claudia!
Claudia says
She’s off because she’s declining fairly rapidly, Vicki. It’s breaking our hearts.
Vicki says
I’m so sorry to hear this; no case is the same but, on the one hand, I’ve ‘been there’ and it’s such an all-encompassing worry. The observations; the mulling of it. What to do, when. Wanting to do anything and everything for the pet you love so much. To help them, ease their stress. I pray you three have a good couple of days together and that you made a safe trip home.
Claudia says
Thank you, Vicki. It’s very difficult right now. Just trying to stay in the moment.
Janet in Rochester says

A beautiful, snowy, city scene, Claudia! We’ve had an uncharacteristically mild winter so far, which has made my transition back to Toronto, much smoother!
Have a lovely weekend,
