All Systems Are Almost Go

Yesterday, I drove about 30 minutes south of here to look for a blanket for the bed. It was another in a series of rainy, foggy days around here. I hate to say it, but I’d much prefer snow over the mud and dampness that has been the norm lately. Anyway, I found a blanket at HomeGoods, as well as a throw pillow. Then I checked out everything at TJ Maxx and ended up with a big fat zero. Ah…but what did I see on the horizon? Bed, Bath & Beyond, the place where I found the pillows we love to sleep on. I needed a couple of King-sized versions of the same pillows. And some pillowcases. The pillows were not cheap, so I could only buy one for Don and one for me and that means the other pillows we use will still be standard size. Screwy, I know, but they’ll be hidden behind the King pillows. Hey, we’re on a budget.

Everything has been delivered. Last night, the last two items – sheets and a dust ruffle – were plopped on our doorstep around 8:30 pm. Almost everything was bought at a discount, sometimes a deep discount. Even so, when you change bed sizes, you have to buy at least one of everything. This has been an expensive proposition for us. Now we await the call that tells us when the bed will be delivered, which will tell us how much we need to do tonight and what we can do at the last minute tomorrow. Cross your fingers for a late morning delivery, okay? That will give us some wiggle room. I’m putting 11:00 am – 2:00 pm out into the universe.

Anyway, there was a Dollar Store right next to TJ Maxx, so I went in to look for inexpensive document frames (check) and found something for the dollhouse. I’ve been looking for a circular mirror to hang above the bathroom sink and I found a thingy that’s meant to be carried in a makeup bag or purse – you flip it open and there are two small round mirrors. $1.00. I came home and managed to pry out the mirror without breaking it and there you go.

I like it.

The other night we were watching Channel 13, our local PBS station that comes out of NYC, and an ad appeared for their programming with a montage of still shots from Downton Abbey and Sherlock, etc. And right in the middle of it all was a shot of Don from The Poisoner’s Handbook! We gasped and cheered. Yay Don!

Since you gave me your blessing, I might be trying some different ad configurations on the blog as my earnings this month have been abysmal. It will be a test. Thanks for your support. Question: Do you have a preference?A narrow, horizontal rectangular ad right above the top of the content (where I post) or one above the header?

Have to go. I have a lot to do today. Everything will be topsy-turvy.

I just looked outside. It’s foggy again. Enough already.

Happy Wednesday.

So glad you are ready for the bed to arrive!! Love the little mirror. Good luck with the ads. Mine don’t make much but it’s all I’m able to do. I’ve never been accepted by BlogHer. Oh well.

You can apply again, Linda. Sometimes it helps to remind them you’re out there. I also think that there is a sort of freeze right not on accepting new applicants, but I’m not sure about that.

So glad it’s all coming together for you Claudia. Where you place the ads doesn’t matter to me at all. As long as I can pull up your blog everday I’m happy. I love how the mirror looks. I frequent a thrift store near us every few weeks and I’m always on the lookout for doll house furnishings but so far haven’t found a thing. Hoping your bed makes it there at the perfect time for you.

Claudia, I am so glad you two are getting a new bed. I hope it is very comfortable. Is that little tiny flip flops I see in the bathroom? As for the ads, I say put them anywhere you feel is best. They don’t bother me at all. I just look foward to reading your posts every day!!

The mirror looks like it belongs there..like an old mirror that’s hung in an old house for a long long time..I will watch for Don in the ad when I am watching PBS..I trust your judgment as to where to place the ads for your blog..I hope they will help bring you some needed income..Good luck with the bed..I am getting so anxious to see it all now!

Yippie a new bed and all the new fun stuff to go with! When ex husband and I had a king sized bed, we had a set of king sized pillows and a set of regular. I had king ones in back, I liked the staggered size look – like they were showing in the mags, with all the pillows. I never did have the boat load of pillows though, with every possible shape known to man. Fingers crossed delivery arrives when it works best for you.
I vote for above the header for your new ad! I’ve got sensory overload but have learned to mostly not pay attention anymore – except for the sneaky Pete pop up ones grrrr hahaha. Do whatever you need and works best for you, we’ll adapt.
I am so disappointed, I may miss the January ornament linky party – I signed up for a Valentine swap, I wanted to make something for a friends 60th bday party that is this weekend, and it’s our 20th anniversary of meeting on the 20th, and a certain someone has a 60th bday coming up and hopefully some goings on related to it! Whew. I will try to make the first pair of ornaments in time but I may be one pooped 60 year old and miss the first linky party.
    Happy hump day!

Claudia, the only ads that bother me are the ones that pop up at the bottom of the screen and you have to X them out befor you start scrolling. I always forget and then have to fight with them to get them to go away.

I can’t wait to see what you do with the new bed. Have you started a king sized quilt yet? (running for cover).

Last but not least, I really like the new head shot that you did of Don! Greatwork!

The ads won’t bother me even a little bit as long as they aren’t the kind that float along as I scroll down the page trying to read the meat of the post. You have the creativity to do both on top and along the side. Have fun with it!

Like others, as long as I can pull up and read your blog, I don’t really care where the ads are (and I don’t really notice them now). the mirror looks perfect in the doll house. I love linens for the bedroom, but hate paying the price for them — everything is just so expensive these days.

Lately I’m seeing a lot of king beds in magazines, on Houzz etc – where they seem to be using 3 standard pillows across the bed, instead of 2 king-size. Or 2 king pillows against the headboard with 3 standards in front of them. Must be a new trend or something but I like the look of it – and God knows the linen is less expensive. Maybe you could try that and see how you like it ??

Room is small not sure it would fit! Would be like you maneuvering stuff everywhere. Here’s hoping it comes when you are prepared for it! waiting for a delivery can be stressfull….hope your is not!

They just called and gave me a four hour window – between 9 and 1. That means we have to get moving early! We have to dismantle the old bed frame, bring those mattresses downstairs and take off the headboard I made. Then we have to assemble the new frame and attach the headboard. I will be exhausted before they arrive!

Brian and I both need new pillows, too – two each. But that isn’t happening for awhile, as good ones are expensive. Maybe one at a time. We’ll see. Not something that’s on the top of our list right now. As for your ads, I rarely even notice them on your page (or anyone else’s) unless they’re those annoying pop-up ones. Or ones that partially block a photo on a blog. Those are the things that make me just want to exit a blog and not even read it!

Oh goodness, Melanie, I heartily dislike those photos that block a photo (usually at the bottom, right?) I don’t understand why anyone would want to add one of those to the bottom of a photo that, presumably, they’re proud of. They are an option with BlogHer but I will not be using them. Promise.

When you went to Bed Bath and Beyond did you go online and get a coupon? I used one for a wedding gift from their registry and saved 20 percent. Now I am on their list and they just sent me one today for 20 percent off. It is only good towards one item. It worked perfect for the wedding gift. Glad your bed is coming together so nicely. Hope you get the delivery time you want.

I’m sick down to my toenails, because we didn’t get to see American Experience. I’d been waiting since you first told us about it. TV

First of all, I know this isn’t the right place but I wasn’t quick enough to respond to the original post…. I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed The Poisoner’s Handbook, and Don’s performance. It was a masterfully put together program and Don brought such a beautiful balance of gravitas and kindness to the portrait of the man. Bravo, Don! I love the way PBS mixes still images, actors, and expert commentary in their documentary. It truly does make history come alive. And as a fan of criminology, I was fascinated (and a little appalled) at how late in the game forensics came to be incorporated into determining cause of death. What a wonderful program, and an excellent performance!
I have different sized pillows on my bed, Claudia, and I stack them with the smaller ones on top, sort of like tiers on a cake getting smaller. Oh! and the mirror in your dollhouse bathroom is perfect. Dollar stores are the most wonderful places, they truly are.
