Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
The most important news is that Little Z was discharged yesterday afternoon and is home with his family. He’s weak and exhausted, but he’s home. Thank heavens. His eldest brother arrived from Ohio in the evening, so the entire family is together. I’m sure Little Z is getting lots of cuddles from everyone. We heard from him briefly via the telephone last night. Just a few words, but that was enough for us. We are so grateful that he is recovering, surrounded by love.
Thank you for the prayers and healing thoughts/energy that you sent his way. Thank you.
Don and I really focus on practicing gratitude every day.
And since we are vegetarians and it’s just the two of us, we decided not to do anything special today. Christmas will be the day for a big holiday dinner.
Low-key is the order for the day. I might even start cleaning out the craft/crap closet in the office.
‘Might’ being the keyword here.
We are thankful our nephew is healing. We are thankful for our family.
(Happy Birthday to my grandmother, who is, I’m sure, cleaning and gardening and painting and baking in Heaven.)
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Happy Thursday,
Corinne says

Thank you, Barbara!
Debbie Price says
So thankful Little Z is home, with his brothers and mom and dad. He will still be in my prayers, for healing. It is hard for a child when things happen to their body. My second oldest was the one I was always on alert for. Almost lost her several times as a child. Still worry about her health and she is 35!
Hugs to you and Don.
Claudia says
I don’t think you ever stop worrying about your child, Debbie! Thank you.
Kathy says

Oh! And you’ve decorated the yard for Thanksgiving! That bush and its red berries are beautiful! What is it?
Lots of baking going on around here. Just the two of us this year, but, it’s all about the feast for us! Glad to hear that Little Z is doing better. Enjoy your relaxing day today.
Claudia says
I have no idea what kind of bush it is. It’s the one in the big garden bed and the leaves turn red in the fall, along with the red berries.xo
Deb says
Happy Thanksgiving and keeping good thoughts for Little Z and all your family.
Claudia says

Wonderful new about Z, glad he is home. I gave up one of the three holidays two year ago, I still do Christmas for 14. Is is nice just to make and bring the Waldorf salad ( using vegan mayo) to step daughter’s house today. Enjoy this somewhat dreary weather day. I like the tofurkey roll stuffed with dressing inside. My vegan daughter brings that Yummy….
Claudia says
Have a yummy dinner, Mary!

Thank you so much, Christina.
Lily says
That is wonderful news about little Z! My granddaughter was born 3 months premature and with cerebral palsy, so we know all of the challenges that goes along with it. She is now 12 years old and doing very well. I’m sure little Z has a very bright future as well, although the road is not easy. We are thankful everyday that our granddaughter survived her birth and continues to progress with great joy and strength. Her great attitude towards life despite her challenges continues to amaze and inspire us on a daily basis. We are keeping little Z in our prayers.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and Don.
Claudia says
Z is positive and joyful – he really is a magic child, it’s like he sprinkles happy dust on everyone he meets! I know life will be tough in some ways for him, but his attitude is like your granddaughter’s, positive.
He’s doing much better today, Lily. Just talked to Mere.
Lily says
I’m so glad he’s doing much better, Claudia!
Claudia says
Me too!

Nothing wrong with a calm, quiet, reflective Thanksgiving Day! One of the best New Year’s Eves I ever had was when I declined all invitations and sat cozy at home, thinking of the year past, ‘putting things in perspective’ and outlining plans in my mind for the year ahead. It was very positive. I had a friend who was so worried about me, that she came to the door to check and see for herself although I’d assured her all was well and good. I was younger then and, instead of sticking to my nice evening, I let her drag me to a party…where I even met a future boyfriend and got lots of kisses at midnight…but I would have been just as happy to stay home because I’m quite comfortable, most of the time and most of my life, with my own company! I’m sure this seems weird to others. Early on in the years, I had to become accustomed to a solitary childhood due to respiratory illness…playing outside with other kids wasn’t possible…and it set the course for adulthood, learning how to entertain myself and do a lot of indoor hobbies. Not to say I never got/get lonely, but I think it’s okay to nest, get quiet; center oneself…my husband, though, is the opposite, so it’s different strokes for different folks, right?
The day in Southern California – – we’re not holiday-ish. Violent…and I mean, violent…desert winds out of the east (Santa Anas), blowing a gale, making a dirty-dusty mess everywhere on windows we JUST washed, cars we JUST washed and a house we JUST washed down (for the first time in two years due to water restriction/drought). I put flowers out at the cemetery yesterday, on multiple graves, which is expensive (I can only do it about once a year), only to have them whipped and beaten down, increasing dry heat wilting them. I’m not a happy camper at the moment but my husband says, “Vicki, quit sweating the small stuff.” I just do not like wasted effort. And it’s so warm that I’m wearing a tank top and shorts; flip flops. We’re about to turn on the central air conditioning. I fault myself for not keeping tuned to the weather forecast…although, historically, it’s not a stretch for us in SoCalif to have this type of weather on the holiday. But of course I realize I’m lucky, because there are other families struggling to get from Point A to Point B, jammed and delayed on icy roads/snow and I just hope everyone stays safe.
And grumbling doesn’t amount to a hill of beans when learning that your precious nephew continues to improve. Now THAT is the stuff which matters in the world! Giving thanks…
Claudia says
Yes, I’ve always been able to be solitary and actually crave time to myself, so I’ve been alone on holidays and been just fine.
Stay out of those winds, Vicki!

Once again the power of prayer was proven. I am very glad Z is at home with everyone.
We did low key today also. We had pancakes for dinner.
Happy Thanksgiving Claudia and Don!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
I’m really glad that Z is OK and will be back home where he belongs.
Let’s hope it’s just a sign of better things for all of us.
Claudia says
Amen to that, Bridget. Here’s to (Please!) a better year for all of us.
Nancy Blue Moon says
It seems extra quiet here today…I’m used to the boyfriend being here and helping with the meal…plus we would always invite his brother and his boyfriend for holidays as they had nowhere else to go…feeling a bit lonely and bored without them…It’s hard to let go of things when you have done them for 20 years…Other than that our turkey is in the oven…pies are made…and I am sitting here taking a break…I just heard my son get up (he is a night person) so I have him to talk to…I am so thankful to have him, to have our small and simple home, our cats who love us as we love them dearly…I’m also thankful to have you and Don as friends and you both sharing your life and home with us…lastly I am so very thankful that our sweet little man is home and recovering and being totally loved and spoiled by his big brothers I’m sure…Have a peaceful day today Claudia & Don…
Claudia says
Thankful for all of you, Nancy. Have a lovely day with your son and your cats.

Happy Thanksgiving, Claudia! Your bittersweet looks so pretty! I just got home from Thanksgiving dinner with my family…the first one without our mom. My siblings & I thought it felt strange to be the oldest ones at the table, but our nephew & his wife came and brought their seven month old baby, our great niece, Lily. What a joy to give thanks with a new baby in the family! Glad to hear your little nephew is on the mend. Best wishes!
Claudia says
The first holidays after losing a parent are so hard, Debbie. Thinking of you.
