It’s clearly trash day in our neighborhood but more importantly, I see buds on some of the trees! I assume they’re flowering trees as NYC plants a lot of them. Spring should be pretty spectacular here.
I trekked on down to Macy’s yesterday and all the way down there I was saying to myself “I’m going to find a great dress today!” I changed my attitude and it helped so much. There were dresses everywhere, most of them entirely inappropriate for me, but there was a lot to look at and consider. Oh, how I wish I had the thin body I used to have! I took it for granted.
Ummm….a big fat NO.
I’m not one to buy a dress that I can only wear once, so I thought I would end up with basic black and I did. It’s the only dress I tried on. I texted both Don and my sister a picture of me in the dressing room trying it on. You can see it over on my sidebar in the Instagram pics.
Shoes, on the other hand, took more time. I wanted comfort but with a heel. I ended up buying three pair because I couldn’t make up my mind! They’re all lovely – one basic, one patent, one a suede. Two of them have a pointy toe. I guess I’ll decide which pair to wear when I’m fully dressed. I got a little clutch, too. Oh, and some dangly red earrings that are a little over-the-top in a fun way.
Then I walked all the way back to the apartment and collapsed on the sofa.
Done.
Today, we’re going out for breakfast and taking it easy before Don has to head to the theater.
I want to say how proud I am of this incredibly talented man who happens to be my husband. He has worked so hard on this show. A year ago, rehearsals started in La Jolla. What an amazing journey he and the rest of the cast and creatives have been on over this past year! All the while, Don has kept everything in perspective.
He’s having the time of his life. I am so grateful for that. And so grateful to know everyone involved in this show. They are truly the nicest, most joyous people I have ever had the privilege to meet.
A toast to Escape to Margaritaville!
Happy Thursday.

The dress is beautiful! You are going to be lovely tonight at the opening! I am so excited for you both!
I have said it before: You and Don have the best lives! So full of adventures!
I have been humming and singing the songs for days now. The cats are probably wanting to throw me into that volcano when it blows!
Have fun, tell Don to break a leg!
Oh, and please take pictures!
Claudia says
I will! Thanks, Debbie!

Congratulations on finding a dress! I always feel a huge sense of accomplishment when I can find something to wear, and get that out of the way. It’s been so much fun hearing about the progression of the show, and exciting that it’s now officially opening. We are going to be on the east coast in September, and I was looking at the website to see about tickets, which they have listed through November. It suddenly occurred to me how long-term your arrangement will be, with Don in the city. Do most of the actors stay with shows for the long haul? I’m not at all familiar with how this works, as you can tell.
Congratulations to Don!
Claudia says
Usually, they have a year contract and decide on whether they want to renew it at the end of the year. But of course, it could close before then. You never know on Broadway – it’s a real crap shoot!
Donnamae says
Love the dress…I can only imagine it with proper shoes and dangling red earrings. (That’s a hint for another pic.). ‘Course the socks were a nice touch…they certainly brought a smile.
Break a leg, Don….and Claudia….enjoy! Hope you both have the time of your life! ;)
Claudia says
Thank you so much, Donnamae!

Love your new dress! Completely suitable for the premiere but for many other occasions as well. You did really well! Glad you didn’t have to try on 18 other outfits too. What a relief. And now it’s done. Nothing to do but relax & gird up for opening night? When is it again? Do most musicals have a typical opening night such as Saturday? Will you try to get to the St Patrick’s Day parade etc? A great time – or maybe not – to be in NYC. Have fun & Peace.

PS – thanks for posting the “Ivanka Trump” sign photo. Good to know. Now I can start ignoring all those Macy’s e-mails I get every week.
Claudia says
It’s tonight – that’s why I said ‘here we are’ in the title!
I won’t be here for the St. Patrick’s Day parade and I’m not into any of it anyway. (Even though I’m part Irish.)
Janet in Rochester says
Oh sorry – I didn’t make the connection! I thought the “here we are” meant here in NYC. OK, have a wonderful time tonight & again Don – break a leg, son! 👏

Glad you found a dress. I was hoping you would get a bright red one but I understand the appeal of a basic black. I love the idea of your red earrings!

I looked for a red one but there weren’t any that I liked. Surprisingly few red dresses. Thanks, Kay!

You got a great dress, Claudia; it’s flirty & fun. You don’t buy yourself clothes very often so enjoy these moments and it’s always great to have a basic LBD on hand along with shoes/clutch.
It’s so great Don is enjoying himself. What if it was the other way? Having fun, good attitude, making money, getting more famous, working all those creative juices. What’s not to love? He’s a smart guy to have adjusted to the hours; pacing himself; good perspective (because I’m sure he gets physically tired although the mental/physical exercise is terrific for any guy in his 60s!). I’m sure just being in such a upbeat, fun musical has a lot to do with looking forward to the work day. Doing what one is good at and what’s pleasant/pleasurable and productive is always a prescription that works; good medicine!
Happy for you both! And it’s working out so nicely that you’re just a few hours away from each other and have the nice apartment. Perfect!
Claudia says
Thanks, Vicki!
Vicki says
I know Don has the credentials and talent (which is of course why he’s in the musical) and all the other things he’s done but sometimes I feel like he just suddenly fell into a pile of sweet pudding in some fantastical, happy, chocolate candy world away from this one! Yes, starting with La Jolla and just layers of good things for you both ever since, like building a big cake with a cherry on the top. It just got better & better & better!
Claudia says
He deserves this, that’s for sure!
Audrey Johnson says
You are going to look great and have a blast. Have fun supporting your husband as he enjoys his journey.
