The title of this post was written by Shakespeare and it’s one of my favorites. It’s from Sonnet 18 – Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer’s Day?
I’m really feeling that this morning as I notice the coneflowers turning brown, the gardens looking ragged, the light changing. It’s still officially summer and will be until later on in September, but we all know that we think of Labor Day as the day we move on to autumn. It always leaves me feeling a bit melancholy.
It’s a quiet day here. There’s less traffic on our heavily traveled road. The sun has come out after a rainy day yesterday. I had a good coaching session yesterday and have another one scheduled for tomorrow. But today? I’m going to take it easy. Get back to my painting. Listen to the new vinyl version of Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water album. Don ordered it the other day because we started talking about The Boxer and how much we love that song and then realized it wasn’t on any of our CDs.
I hope you have a lovely day today. Enjoy.
Stay safe.
Happy Monday.

The nights have been cool here…down to 50 last night, and only 62 right now. Our house was chilly this morning…left the windows open. Fall is coming, I only hope it slides in gently.
Not much going on here either. The hummingbirds have been delightful to watch on our deck, so I just might laze the day away out there watching them.
Enjoy your day! ;)

Our house has been chilly in the morning, as well. I welcome it!
Stay safe, Donnamae.

Here on the Gulf Coast Summer’s lease is of the 99 year variety, and while the light is changing, the enervating heat and humidity will have a stranglehold on us for several weeks to come. September also brings the strongest threat of hurricanes, adding to its feeling of endlessness.
Claudia says
I’m sorry you have to deal with that. My sister does, as well. As beautiful as it is, I wouldn’t be able function in either place!
Stay safe, Margaret.

Hi Claudia, my coneflowers look the same as yours. With the cool weather in June, the heavy rains in July and the sweltering heat of August all my gardens are looking a little rough.
I notice subtle signs of Fall here too. Definitely cooler nights and the darkness now at 5:00 when we get up. The patch of light on the living room wall that comes with the end of August….
Enjoy your quiet day!❤️

We are already starting to do some fall clean up. Things like putting away all but 2 of the chairs on the deck.
We have a tree service coming wednesday to take out several trees. 2 are to open up our vegetable garden so it gets more sun and the other is a tall white oak that is leaning precariously towards our house.
The vegetable garden has been cleaned out except for a few tomato plants. The nights have been cooler and all three grandchildren are back in school. We are getting used to the quiet days again.
Have a peaceful day and enjoy S&G. I love listening to music from the 60’s and 70’s. Takes me back to a simpler time.
Take care
Claudia says
You deserve some peaceful days after the summer you’ve had, Marilyn. Well earned.
Stay safe!

Yes, it’s dark here in the morning. I sort of like waking up in the darkness. Maybe it brings out my nesting instinct.
Stay safe, Robin!

It will be in the 60s all this week here at the lake. I don’t think I’ll be swimming, but it’s nice for walking and rather cozy inside. I’m not ready for fall. That beastly 90 degree stuff can go as far as I’m concerned, but a few nice 80s days would be welcome!
But I do love being north at this time. Once the people leave today, fewer will return for weekends and the lake will be quieter and town as well. I’m trying to limit errands in town to market days so I can avoid additional exposures. I picked Rick up from his four-day ride and we’re keeping distance since there was a lot of bad masking behavior, including a guy who sat across from him at dinner — from Florida, no less — who was bragging on how he didn’t need a vaccine, he was strong. Rick will get tested in a couple of days, but meanwhile, separate quarters!
Claudia says
A pox on that person! Why do people do this? No sense of community or caring for another person beside himself. Grrr.
Stay safe, Jeanie.

I get a little sad these days as the flowers die but there is beauty in that also. Seasons changing are always sad and exciting at the same time. Enjoy your restful day.
Claudia says
Same here. It’s beautiful and sad at the same time.
Stay safe, Linda.

Today is what I think of as a perfect Fall day. Temp is 78* and bright and sunny, and we woke up to 52*. Windows open, the smell of lawns being mowed, it is just a lovely day. The Music Dept at the high school does a yearly fund raiser that is a flag delivered to our yard on 4 days over the Summer ~ Memorial Day, Flag Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day. Fun to drive through town and see all the flags! I am so ready for Fall after this brutal Summer we have had.
Hope you had a nice day with some painting and time to gather some moments of peace. Take care.
Claudia says
78 today and sunny all day long!
I painted yesterday and took a long walk with my husband. Trying to keep my anxiety at bay.
Stay safe, Chris.

Claudia — have had a good day here: 3 teenage grkids here for the day — lovely sun, enjoyed being with them on the screened porch, not too hot. now, they are on their way home b/c life begins again in the A.M. for them — already missing them. I love the Simon/Garfunkel “bridge over troubled water” and “the boxer” — have these on CD ‘Greatest Hits’ — I can really crank up these tunes, HaHa!!! hope your work goes well, stay safe, healthy.
Claudia says
Glad you had some time with your grandkids. We cranked up The Boxer yesterday afternoon. It was great!
Stay safe, Linda.

Claudia, hope you had a restful day today. I can really feel fall coming . I’ve spent the day collecting seeds from dried blossoms on 3 ft. orange and yellow marigold plants. I know it’s better to buy new seeds next year, but collecting the seeds, drying them in the sunshine. and sealing them in envelopes is a hard habit to break. Cutting the leaves off the iris and moving rhizomes’ to new flower beds is a compulsion. I automatedly on Labor Day weekend, lay each blouse, pants and shorts, and summer housedresses on my bed and fold the garments to donate.
No wonder I feel good today. Hope your day was as quiet and fulfilling
Lottie
Claudia says
Sounds like you had a good day, Lottie! Good for you!
Stay safe.
