You are here: Home / Christmas / And That’s Done

And That’s Done

December 18, 2014 at 8:09 am by Claudia

I’m posting twice today because I also have a sponsored post going up around 9 am.

I’m happy to do the sponsored post, but I also like to check in with you, dear readers.

I finished my Christmas shopping for Don yesterday. Hallelujah! If I could order everything online, I would be one happy camper. But we were both slow to create our Christmas Lists, which means some things have to be bought in the store. I’m happy to report that I was calm, serene, and I managed to gather everything I was looking for.

Since I dislike shopping in stores, as well as the crowds, calm and serene is a major feat.

We still have to do some shopping for our girl.

A few more photos from NYC:

I don’t know about you, but I still get a little thrill when I see a book publisher’s name on a building. I know it can be tedious work, but I’ve always had a dream about being a book editor in Manhattan.

Ah well, another life.

And Scribner’s. Don’t you love the writing on the side of the building? It’s a wonderfully old-fashioned font. New York is full of buildings that have words like this – advertisements for the company that resides in the building. Some are beautifully maintained like this, others are so faded that you can barely read them –  a shadowy remnant of another era.

And one of the buildings at Rockefeller Center, soaring into the sky.

Are you checking off items on your To Do lists? Make sure you give yourself time to stop and rest and look at your tree lights in a darkened room and listen to beautiful music and just be.

New post up on Just Let Me Finish This Page.

Happy Thursday.

A book editor in Manhattan. We had the same dream! I wonder if the book editors in Manhattan know they are living other peoples dreams? I also hope they love, love, love their jobs.

Just read both posts for today Claudia and both of them made me think about our situation. We live in a 24 ft wide by 48 ft long 25 year old double wide mobile home on almost an acre and a half. We have three bedrooms and two baths which seems like a lot for a couple alone but it’s a constant battle for me to keep the two extra bedrooms neat. One has shelves which we use just for storage. Our little place is just perfect for us and we are blessed with good neighbors on both sides. Carl & I took the baby I keep shopping on Mon. and did all our Christmas shopping at one time. I have the ones I got for him and the few I got for others wrapped already but he doesn’t have mine wrapped yet. This is our first year with a front porch so we have lights on it and after the dinner dishes are done I sit out there enjoying the lights and listen to some music. Trying my best to keep this holiday season simple and stress free. I wish the same for your family.

So happy you can sit out on your porch and enjoy your lights, Janie! Simple and stress free is definitely the way to go.

Glad to hear your shopping is done..now for the fun of wrapping..seriously..I always enjoyed wrapping gifts..I even earned money doing it for people when I was a teenager..Those tall buildings make me a bit dizzy..Scribner’s building..is that what they mean by “the writing on the wall”??..lol..

Bob and I have decided for this Christmas we will just exchange a small gift – actually we’ve done this for several years come to think of it! We only gift a few adults now and the younger grandchildren (youngest is now 18). One grandchild makes high six figures at 26 and, being single, he obviously is wealthier than we’ve ever been, haha! We are now on a fixed income and have to watch our pennies. We, like most seniors, worry that these later years may bring costly health/aging/housing issues and we need to be prepared!

Loving your NYC pics dear – such a fantastic city always!
Love to you all as Christmas draws close.

My shopping for Christmas is done, but I may find a few trinkets here in Aruba to take home! I was sick today (icky tummy) so stayed in the room most of the day. I found that Netflix has just added HOMELAND and I started watching it. So good. Hoping tomorrow to get some beach time in!
    hugs,
    Linda

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
