At Home

April 6, 2009 at 12:57 pm by Claudia

Yes, friends, I am home at the cottage for a visit and it is heaven! After a brief time readjusting to a different time zone, I have settled in. I must say it is a bit strange to come home to my house, the place I am used to cleaning, spiffing and having control over, and finding it has been under my husband’s control. Do you know what I mean? Of course, I know he has been taking care of everything in my absence, but when I came in the door on Saturday night I saw that it was really true. I felt I had to get to know my house all over again. I don’t know if that makes sense – it is an emotional reaction to being away from my nest. And to a control person like me, knowing someone else has been in control is unsettling. My husband has done a splendid job and I’m proud of him. But I will be glad when I am back in my nest for good (and am in control again!)

Two lovely boxes were awaiting me when I arrived. The first was from Betzie and held the pink glass salt and pepper shakers I won in her giveaway. Aren’t they pretty? She also included some of her handmade soaps in a pretty pink bag! Thank you Betzie!

The second box contained two pincushions I ordered from Betty (one of our fellow Pink Saturday bloggers, as is Betzie.) I love these! Betty creates such fun, whimsical pincushions and I just had to have one. Make that two. Thank you Betty!

I also came home to these two:

It is so wonderful to be with my babies again. We’ve been having a wonderful time together. Don says that Riley (our quiet one) is like a different dog now that I’m home. He’s much livelier. I think they both feel our absences deeply and are happiest when the ‘pack’ is intact right here in Mockingbird Hill Cottage. By the way, when I pulled out my camera, Scout immediately sat and posed. That girl loves the camera!

I want to start cleaning out the garden but it is raining. That is not fitting in with my plan. Ah well. Husband made pancakes this morning, the dogs are lying beside me as I blog, I can hear the rain on the roof. All is well.

More later.

Glad you are having fun at home. I really love the crocheted tulip. And all the other pinks. Don’t work too hard. The first day in the garden makes my muscles sore.

    have a great day.

It sounds pretty wonderful, rain and all! Everyone has missed you.
It is interesting how it’s an adjustment being back in your own home. I’m a control person too so I know what you mean. I remind myself, or rather my husband reminds me, that there is more than one way to do things. I try to tap into that but sometimes it is easier said than done!
Hopefully you’ll get some time in your garden too. In the meantime, enjoy nesting in your nest.

Oh, what lovely goodies you received, Claudia! It must be wonderful to be home again! I’ll bet the doggums are thrilled to have you home. Have a wonderful time nesting while you’re home. The sun is shining right now here in New England, so hopefully you’re able to get out into your garden today since you’re also in the northeast! Oh, and I was at Michaels and found some pretty cool readers in a variety of colors and patterns, so several pair came home with me (at $2.99 a pair I couldn’t resist!) I even got a pretty blue pair! My optometrist (who’s great) said if I’m doing fine with the cheap magnifiers I pick up at stores, that’s fine with her… Of course since they are usually very cheap, they don’t last forever so it’s always good to have some spares on hand!!… Donna @ An Enchanted Cottage

Oh my goodness! I should have checked in sooner. I’m so glad you liked your pincushions. Thanks for the link to me!
I also like the story of the Christmas wreath. I just now took the St. Patrick’s day sign off the door and put out the Easter wreath. I’m just a little late.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
