Funky Patio Container – Then and Now

August 16, 2012 at 10:55 am by Claudia

We’re in that overgrown, fading stage of the summer garden, aren’t we? Still looking pretty good but everything needs a little pruning and a lot of weeding. This is the time I have to really motivate myself in order to do anything in the garden.

Oh, and I have to mow, as well.

I planted this container earlier in the summer, thinking that the Funky Patio needed some lush planting. Here it is the day I planted it:

And here it is today:

That sweet potato vine is even longer than it looks!

This container has been a real success. I’ll definitely be doing that again next year.

But, hold on there, Claudia – summer isn’t over yet. Let’s enjoy it while we still can.

By the way, I was on PicMonkey editing these photos and they’ve added about 18 new fonts. Yummy!

Happy Thursday.

Accompanied by a Butterfly

August 15, 2012 at 8:07 am by Claudia

One of my favorite movies is ‘You’ve Got Mail.” I never tire of watching it (especially for Kathleen Kelley’s apartment – be still my heart!) One of my favorite moments is when Kathleen talks about seeing a butterfly on the subway. I find it so magical and wonderful.

The other day, I was doing some chores outside. I mowed a bit, pulled some weeds, did some gardening, the usual summertime chores.

A monarch butterfly followed me everywhere.

I’d be mowing and there she would be.

Later on, while mowing another section of the yard….hello butterfly!

Pulling weeds? Ms. Monarch followed me.

All throughout the afternoon, she accompanied me, flitting, flying, landing oh-so-briefly, here, there and everywhere.

I briefly thought of trying photograph her. But she was too quick for me.

And something told me that our journey together was too magical, too special to do that. I wouldn’t be in the moment. I wanted to simply feel the delight and wonder of her presence.

So I did just that.

Have you ever had an experience like that? Whether it was with a butterfly or some other creature? if you have, please share it! I find that those special connections with nature restore my soul.

(The photo is of an Eastern Swallowtail butterfly. I don’t have one of a Monarch. That makes the whole thing even more magical!)

Happy Wednesday.

Feisty Riley

August 14, 2012 at 9:27 am by Claudia

Good morning, everyone! Not enough sleep last night – Mr. Riley was especially feisty during the early am hours and decided he was thirsty and that barking would be the appropriate thing to do in order to secure some water. Now, I limit Riley’s water after 8 pm because he sometimes has a bit of a problem with control.

But he was having none of it. The first time he barked, I let him outside, thinking he had to take care of business. Nope. So I succumbed and gave him some water.

Apparently I didn’t give him enough. Two hours later: more barking. More water was given. This time the amount of water seemed to meet with his approval. Now? He’s sleeping peacefully and I feel all gritty-eyed and irritable. Thanks, Riley.

There will be some changes happening to the blog very soon. Just wanted to give you a heads up. I’m excited about the whole thing, but it’s a big deal and it’s taking a lot of time. I’ll keep you informed as the week goes on. I’ll try to post every day, but I may not, so don’t be concerned. I’ll still be here, checking in and monitoring everything.

Happy Tuesday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
