Of Frying Pans and Mouthy Dogs

September 21, 2011 at 10:01 am by Claudia

Yes, dear readers, it’s come to this. I’m posting a photo of a frying pan. How much worse can things get here at the cottage?

You realize, of course, why I’m posting this particular not-very-good-photo. The color! My favorite color, in fact. We needed another frying pan (why can’t non-stick surfaces stay non-stick for more that a few months?) and I found this one at Home Goods. Cuisinart. This particular style comes in lots of bright colors. And yes, I took this photo before I potentially ruined the wicker rocker. In fact, it was right before I embarked on my doomed DIY project.

Seriously, does anyone else have problems with non-stick pans? If you have a recommendation, I’d sure love to hear it. Because we are seriously irritated by it. Especially this guy:

…who does most of the frying around here. Neat photo, eh? (My Canadian grandmother wrote letters to me when I was in college and she invariably ended a sentence with “eh?”) I took this last week because Don wanted some updated photos with his now shorter hair. Ooh….those eyes!! And let’s not mention his hair, which makes me green with envy.

Now I will leave you with this photo of Scout looking insane:

Scout will be 13 this December. She is the youngest 13 year old dog I’ve ever seen. She’s got far more energy than I do, that’s for sure. As she gets older, though, she has become barkier. Lots of barking. Nagging barking. She’s like an elderly person who has decided that old age has earned her the right to mouth off whenever she wants. You know, the person who says, “I speak my mind. I don’t care what people think.”

That’s Scout. She’s a piece of work, that one.

A Diamond In The Rough – The Dollhouse

September 20, 2011 at 10:24 am by Claudia

I painted the dollhouse porch floor. Since the surface was already rough (remember, this is a used dollhouse) I thought this diamond pattern might end up looking like a painted stone floor. At the very least, it adds interest and a wee bit of character.

Now I must work on the inside. I’m not sure where to start, so much has to be done.

My mantra: Just a little bit, every day.

Tiny Treasures

September 19, 2011 at 10:40 am by Claudia

Two of my former students won Emmy awards last night. Jim Parsons won his second Emmy for his great work on Big Bang Theory and Abraham Higginbotham won for Modern Family – he is a writer and producer on that wonderful show. Truthfully, both of these guys were favorites of mine who also became my friends. Couldn’t be prouder of them. I just talked with Jim today. Though, wait a minute, I don’t think I heard my name in the acceptance speech…. hmmm.

What do you think of Gladys? Gladys is either a salt or pepper shaker. She was part of that wonderful package of goodies Vintage Sue sent to me. I am so taken by anything that is tiny. And I love this particular style of figurine with the rosy cheeks, cupid’s bow mouth and vintagey look. I believe Miss Gladys is a maid and it looks as if she just took a visitor’s hat.

This guy was also in the package – another salt or pepper shaker. Love, love this face.

What is it about teeny, tiny, miniature things? They call to me. I have little things like this all over the house. Of course, I have my dollhouse and all the miniatures that go in it, but the little things that I’m talking about today aren’t that kind of miniature. They’re not to scale. They are just wee little treasures that pop out here and there amongst all the ‘big’ things around the house. They are unexpected pleasures. Are you a tiny treasure lover?

Speaking of tiny, I used the macro setting to get this photo yesterday:

He’s spun his web in my rose bush. Amazing.

Have a great Monday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
