Happy Birthday, Daddy

September 28, 2009 at 9:13 am by Claudia

Happy Birthday, Dad! My Dad is 86 years young today. This photo is of Daddy and I on a visit to meet Santa. Look at my Dad’s snappy hat! What a handsome guy my Dad is….I look pretty bundled up, don’t I? Our visits to Santa at our local department store, Muirheads, were always magical and we got to ride on a little train, too. I love this photo.

Wish I could be there with you, Daddy – I love you.

I am Loving Vintage Dress Forms

September 27, 2009 at 11:04 am by Claudia

I have a serious case of the I Wants. I have wanted one of these vintage dress forms for so long! I see them everywhere in blogland. My fellow bloggers are so creative – they adorn their dress forms in jewelry, hats, clothing, you name it. The one pictured above is from the Barn Sale back in San Diego.

Of course, I have no idea where I am going to put it in tiny little Mockingbird Hill Cottage. But why bother dealing with such a silly worry? I would find a place…I would.

My preference would be vintage, but I have seen a few wonderful tutorials on aging a new dress form. That would certainly cost less and the ‘aged’ forms I have seen are wonderfully vintage looking. There is even a Vintage Dress Forms Flickr group. Such eye candy! (The forms pictured above are from Vignettes.)

A girl can dream….

Pink Saturday

September 26, 2009 at 12:05 am by Claudia

MeetTressa. Tressa is my sweet doll with two left feet. I have written about her before, but I thought she deserved special attention on Pink Saturday. My friend Heidi and I found Tressa when we were antiquing. Heidi had her in her shop but I knew I would bring her home to MHC someday. I did. She really does have two left feet. At some point she must have needed a replacement leg and for some reason, the replacement leg had another left foot. When we purchased her, we were told that a true doll collector wouldn’t want her because of her two left feet. Well….you can understand why we immediately said, “We’ll take her!” And now she lives here. I adore her.

Doesn’t she have the prettiest, sweetest face?

A close-up of her taffeta dress.

Her leather shoes with pink stitching.

Here she is with the edge of her bonnet flipped back.

Stop by Beverly’s blog to see a list of everyone participating. Happy Pink Saturday!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
