Snow and No Snow

December 20, 2009 at 11:23 am by Claudia

Much of the East Coast was at a standstill yesterday – snow fell everywhere. Husband went out and bought more salt, stocked up a bit on necessities, while the Weather Channel kept increasing the amount of expected snowfall (8 inches.) When I went to bed around 11:00, there was still no sign of snow. I was prepared to wake this morning and see tons of snow on the ground.

There is less than an inch.

What happened? There seems to be a major discrepancy between the forecast and what I see out my window. Its funny how a major snow storm whips up a combination of dread and excitement. Part of me hates the thought of being snowed in, having to shovel my way out, scary road conditions, the whole thing….and the other part of me loves the idea of being snowed in, cozy in my cottage, hot chocolate in hand, cuddled up with my sweetie.

So, though I feel relief at the lack of snow, there is just the tiniest bit of disappointment. Just as well, though, as both husband and I are sick and I was up half the night coughing. Shoveling would have not been a good thing for either of us.

I have to shop tomorrow. Have to. So let’s tell this bug to leave the premises effective immediately.

Happy Sunday!

Feeling Yucky

December 18, 2009 at 1:36 pm by Claudia

Well, my friends, I am definitely feeling under-the-weather. My wish to get rid of this quickly has apparently been denied. I don’t have the energy to share much with you today. Trying to save money this year, I bought a faux wreath from Michael’s for a couple of dollars, added some trim and a big bow that I already had. Nothing earth shattering, but I can recycle this every year and that’s a good thing.

Oh, I just got a whiff of our Christmas tree – that must mean I am not totally stuffed up! I’m grateful for the little things, at this point. Have a stress-free day, everyone.

Look What Arrived in the Mail!

December 17, 2009 at 9:53 am by Claudia

Are you familiar with Vintage Lizzie? If you aren’t, run right over to her blog and website! She has a shop on Cape Cod (already I am jealous) and she is so talented. I got to know her through Elyse, who has visited Lizzie’s shop and shared it with us in her posts. So – Lizzie had a giveaway and I won! Yesterday, in the midst of this awful cold/sinus yuck and dealing with a mistake made by the tax people in NY State, this package arrived:

Let’s see what’s inside, shall we?

This gorgeous stocking, made by Lizzie, with her own line of fabrics; UrbanGardens Textiles. Look at the detail in this beautiful stocking.

This is the prettiest stocking I have ever seen – something tells me I will be leaving this out all year long.
Lizzie made these sachets (with UrbanGardens Textiles) – filled with lavender:

That sneaky Lizzie also included some wonderful treasures:

I knew this next beauty was coming, so I just had to buy a little tree – you will see why.

Lizzie made this reversible tree skirt for a feather tree. Isn’t it lovely? I don’t have a feather tree, but I do have this sweet white tree from Michael’s.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Lizzie, for such a generous giveaway. You are a treasure, indeed. I love everything – a pink lover’s dream come true!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
