McCoy in the Winter

February 19, 2008 at 1:24 pm by Claudia

It has been a dreary winter here in the Northeast. Our driveway seems to be continually covered in ice and just when we think we have it under control, it magically reappears. I was born in the Midwest and worked in both Philadelphia and Boston for several years – I am not a wimp about winter weather. The problem? I then moved to sunny San Diego where I lived for 8 years before we moved back east. The first year I lived in San Diego, I flew to northern Michigan to spend Christmas with my family. It snowed, and snowed and snowed. I will never forget landing back in San Diego and feeling a warm, tropical breeze and the sun on my face. It was heaven.

I love the seasons and I actually think we need them. The changes show us the passing of time: death, rebirth, renewal. But I do miss the sun in the mid-winter when the endless gray sky is depressing. Right about now I long for spring. I want to see the buds on the trees, see the daffodills push through the earth, and work in my garden.

So I nest, as we all do. I look at things in my cottage that give me pleasure, like my McCoy pottery collection. I love to collect things and the McCoy is top on my list. I thought I’d share a few photos of my favorite pieces with you.

Welcome!

February 17, 2008 at 5:45 pm by Claudia

Welcome to my blog, Mockingbird Hill Cottage! I have been reading and commenting on various blogs for a long time and now I have finally started my own. Believe me, I will be learning as I go. I’m looking forward to meeting new friends and sharing my thoughts, projects and experiences with you. Mockingbird Hill Cottage is so named because my favorite book of all time is To Kill a Mockingbird and my maiden name is Hill. It is also a salute to a mockingbird that serenaded us every night with the most beautiful music when we lived in California. I hope your day is a happy one.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
