Day Three Hundred Sixty-Eight

March is a fickle month. Last week it was in the sixties and now it’s thirty degrees colder. Gray skies, snow showers…sigh.

Some additions to the English Cottage (aka Dove Cottage):

A miniature oil painting from Weston Miniatures on Etsy. I’m not sure where I’m going to place it. All will be revealed.

I’ve had this one for a while. Yesterday I decided to hang some pictures and I decided this one should be on this wall. It’s a Japanese print from MiniMyEye on Etsy. She often uses postage stamps for artwork.

Also new is the thumb latch on the door, from Weston Miniatures. I already had one on the outside of the door but it went on back order, so I had to wait for this one.

Also new is the painting on the other side of the front door, which you can see here. I briefly considered aging the frames but I like the pop of gold in this somewhat darkish room.

I’d have to look it up but I think these women are Muses. Another stamp art piece from MiniMyEye.

I received the baseboard trim that I want in yesterday’s mail, so the next step is to finish the windows in the last room – both the acrylic inserts and trim – and then I’ll start painting the baseboards to add to each room.

Don and I check in with each other every day about the studio space. He can record anywhere as his equipment is portable, but if I’m not going to do anything with the dollhouse, he goes upstairs. Not sure what today will bring!

I’m reading The Sentence is Death  by Anthony Horowitz, one of my favorite writers. We’re still watching A French Village, which is stunningly powerful. The acting is superb.

Day Three Hundred Sixty-Seven

Wind, wind, wind. It has finally stopped, leaving us with much colder temperatures. It’s 24 degrees as I write this and the high will be 36. The same holds true for tomorrow and then it will start to get warmer. But it’s sunny!

It’s the Ides of March today.

A word about A Chelsea Concerto, which I finished yesterday. If you’re at all interested in WWII history, I strongly recommend this book. It’s beautifully written, helped by the artist author’s attention to detail. It’s also heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. It was originally published in 1959, the same year that the author died from cancer – far too young. It’s been out of print for years, and Dean Street Press just reissued it last month. That’s how new this copy is. I spent a lot of time talking to Don about it and it lingered with me all day yesterday and into today. This isn’t a review – I just recommend it highly. It’s important to remember.

I started a new puzzle yesterday, this one a New Yorker  cover from the 30s depicting a seaside village. Much brighter colors!

More egg cups. Among them, my other Snow White (I have two). Some of my favorites are here: bunnies holding up egg cups, living in egg cups, painting egg cups. A bear pulling an egg cup. Little dogs and little boys. Chicks. Bluebirds from Germany. Lustre ware. Groundhogs in the Alps. Funny faces and a wooden girl wearing a knit cap.

And my tiny silver egg cup from Paris. I’ve since polished it because it was tarnished. The blue and white cup at the top is ironstone and very old. And the egg next to it was a gift from my mom, who, as soon as she learned I was collecting them, enthusiastically looked for egg cups wherever she went. I miss her.

Day Three Hundred Sixty-Six

Well, I’m all thrown off by the time change. When I woke up this morning and checked the time on the cable box in the bedroom, I thought, “Wow, I really slept in!” I carried that thought with me as I came downstairs and then Don reminded me it was actually only 7:15. Nevertheless, the time says it’s much later and I have a deadline for this post.

So it will be brief.

It’s sunny today but we’re due for more wind this afternoon and evening.

I’m just about to finish A Chelsea Concerto  and put it aside to write this post, so I’ll be going back to it shortly.

I finished the puzzle:

This was the hardest one yet. So many dark colors; dark blues, grays, purples, and black, so it was often hard to figure out what went where. Early in the afternoon, I finally hit that place where everything seems to magically go in place. Finally! This is entitled: Monday at the Met, Monday being the traditional day the museum is closed. So you see the subjects of paintings, having exited their respective canvases, eating ice cream, and listening with headphones to a music player of some sort – this is circa 2001, so I’m not sure what was the rage at the moment. It’s awfully fun, this cover. The artist is Edward Sorel.

The next one is quite different and I’ll start in on it today.
