Sometimes we forget how insane it gets in our neck of the woods on an autumn weekend. We have avoided going in to the town north of us on autumn weekends for years. But Don wanted to go to the nursery/farmer’s market (where we buy plants and our Christmas Tree) to get some fresh vegetables, so I decided to go along so we could stop at an antique shop.
Well. Traffic on the road to the nursery was backed up for miles. Had there been an accident? Was something going on at the Fairgrounds?
No. It was simply an autumn weekend in the Hudson Valley and the leaf peepers had landed. We had to turn around and take another route. When we finally got there, the nursery was jammed with people – I forgot about their hayrides and pumpkin picking! It was a beautiful day and all their events were extremely popular. Everyone was buying lots of fresh produce, as well.
Needless to say, after we made our purchases and we drove toward the antique store, we quickly realized that there was absolutely no parking. So we headed back home where we discovered our little town was also jam-packed. We did take a little walk around Main Street.
We have a couple of Little Free Libraries in our town and also this – a free Art Box. “Make Art, Leave Art, Take Art.” What a neat idea!
The forsythia at the library has bloomed again. It’s confused.
Don took part in the No Kings event in our little town. The population is a little over 3000 people and at least 1400 people showed up! Isn’t that great? Our Representative in Congress spoke (he lives here) as well as several other politicians. Don felt hopeful for the first time in a long time. Over 7 million people marched in the No Kings events.
We are stronger than them. Much stronger.

It’s so nice to see the leaves changing and I love the cooler temps. Autumn is my favorite season. I’m glad Don did the No Kings protest. I did, too, and it was so uplifting!

am sitting at the car shop right now (transmission pan gasket) … ugh, but good to have done anyway and especially since a traveling exhibit has finally come fairly close to us (saint paul, almost four hours from here) and we plan to see it this week. it’s about julia child and her life and kitchen so will be fun! for anyone reading this who might be interested and within driving distance, the exhibit is scheduled to be at the minnesota historical center on west kellogg through at least april of next year.

I can just imagine the traffic as you described it this last weekend. A headache for sure, and a boost for the small businesses I would think.
That forsythia is so pretty…mother nature is confused. I like the idea of that art library. I’m wondering how much use it gets? Any idea?
I am very hopeful after seeing all the people at the No Kings protests this past weekend. It was fun to read all those signs people carried…clever people. We just have to build on that hope, and make sure it continues.

We have had the best Autumn in Nebraska, which I don’t think we have even had a freeze yet. Of course, the flies are plentiful and trying to get in the house. The ONLY drawback of having an extended fall.
I had to look up the kings march you were talking about. I’m not sure how the participation in Nebraska was but hopefully people got out and supported their cause. We are so lucky to live in a country that people can protest. I think many people forget how fortunate and blessed our lives are in this country. I took my 4-year-old grandson to target to buy toys and supplies to put in a Christmas shoebox to be sent to other countries for the less fortunate. I explained to him that many don’t have what we have, and we have to help in any way we can. He was excited to pick out items for them and hopefully start the process of him understanding our good fortunes.

Unfortunately, many people non-violently protest in this country and are arrested. The crowds were simply too big in the No Kings march and were deliberately peaceful, so no arrests were made.

It sounds like your outing was fun, I cannot handle traffic anymore. Where I live there is slight
reprieve , a down time. Summer activities have stopped and skiing has yet to start. It is refreshing.
It was so encouraging that so many peopled turned out. t**** and the republicans reactions show what tiny, tiny, tiny loathsome people they are.
