After being chomped on by deer, this clump of phlox has come back beautifully. I would be very happy if phlox self-seeded every year like it has this year. It fills in all the spaces in the garden and it’s a riot of color.
Another insanely hot and humid day yesterday with some rain, but not nearly the amount of storms predicted. I’m wondering if I should try mowing a bit of the front lawn today? Don has a gig this morning, so I could sneak in some mowing time. I’m also putting off working on our deductions (we always file an extension) but I really can’t delay that any longer.
Morning photos of the big old work in progress. I was looking at my IG miniature feed this morning and found a woman who make kits for half-scale (1:24) dollhouses. I was envious. They would take up so much less space. I’m sort of wishing I had gone that way. Very small house and several large dollhouses = a problem. I still have no idea where I am going to put the Beacon Hill when it’s finished. Between the Blythes and the dollhouses and Don’s many guitars and other musical instruments, it’s a wonder we have anywhere to sit!
Playing with placement. That’s an old table I have that is about the size of whatever kind of desk/worktable I’ll end up using. I had to pull it out of the Vintage Folk Art Dollhouse. The legs on this piece are a bit too modern, but it’s the right size.
Working on a dollhouse is a lot more fun than working on deductions…

usual day here. walk done and enjoyed, earl and the birds have been fed. only six increasingly-shorter rounds needed to finish a hat so will do that next, then sort a bunch of papers. the last free paper-shredding event of the year around here happens early next month, and there are no more until at least april (and i have too much to put through our small shredder) so i’m not going to miss this paper-shredding event sponsored by a bank!

Good Morning Claudia! I have the same love/hate feeling about my phlox… this year they are glorious! And I even was brutal and yanked a bunch of the invaders out in the spring. But, oh my they make August a treat! I had originally bought one called “starfire” back at my Old Home… because it is such an unusually brilliant hot pink with fuschia overtones. It quickly cross-pollinated with my other long ago purchase… a white one with pale pink centers…. (I forget its name)… and of course the rest is the tale of incredible color mixes! I particularly love the ones that are a deep dark magenta… almost royal purple… they shock me every year! But the profusion of the new seedlings is too much! They get into the roots of the peonies and the daylilies…. it’s not fair! I just have to be more determined in the spring.
As for the smaller scale dollhouses…. there is a kind of charm to all of them. I really Really love making tiny tiny things…. get totally carried away by the tiniest tiny…. but they are difficult to safeguard! And in their own way they are hard to “appreciate” because it is so difficult to imagine oneself into them if you know what I mean? I’m talking mostly about the 1/144the scale here… dollhouses for dollhouses. The 1/48 is the scale of my Tree House…. and again… it is just Magical to look into those finished rooms… but if it was a free-standing house… I would worry for it’s safety and it would just sit on a shelf never really “seen”. But, yes, I completely understand about the small house part…. truly… there are about two places to sit in my house that don’t have dollhouses or parts thereof in the way! I know some people just renovate their houses when they run out of things to do… some people even sell them… I would not be able to part with them at all. But I’m like that … I get attached to things… always have! I’ve been contemplating down-sizing my books collection to make more room on the shelves for “mini stuff”….! They just give me so much pleasure… in the making and in the revisiting… and I’ve been this way since I was a child, so I know it is something that truly speaks to me. And I am just so glad to see you are finally having time to “play” with the Beacon Hill…. you’ve been dreaming about it for a long time! :):):)
Oh, I would never do 1/144 or 1/48. The only size I’d consider would be 1:24.
I can’t see my minis or my dolls or anything really personal to me. They’re part of the family.

Deductions are a positive bc they can save you on paying taxes! But, I’d rather be playing with miniatures too. At least taxes are only once a year.
Yes, but it takes several hours/days to add everything up and I’m not even sure how much they’re saving us. Ever since they changed the tax code so that performing artists cannot deduct the necessary expenses they used to be able to deduct, it’s been hard for us.
