The snow heading our way later today may be less than predicted. Originally the forecast was for 5 – 8 inches, then it was downgraded to 3- 5, and the weather app says the amount may be less than 3-5 inches.
Good news!
I didn’t sleep well last night. It took me a while to get to sleep, Don was snoring off and on, and I was coughing. Still. I don’t cough all the time, but I do still have some remnants of chest congestion. Sigh.
We’re headed over to Rick and Doug’s this morning for a brief visit. Doug’s daughters and baby granddaughter have been visiting over the past month. We were sick for so long that we couldn’t see them. Two of his daughters are preparing to head home, so we going to see them and the baby this morning.
I actually worked on the rescued dollhouse for a bit yesterday. Much of the work can’t be documented with a pretty picture as I was scraping excess glue out of every corner. I still have a lot more de-gluing to do. I straightened an interior wall. And in between, I found a sink in my stash and painted the taps silver.
I love this kind of sink. I had one in my apartment in Cambridge, though I didn’t appreciate it enough at the time. Now, I’d love to have one! I was playing around with it, wondering if it could fit into the dollhouse kitchen. It can, but it’s a bit cumbersome in terms of available space.
This dollhouse is going to be an English cottage. I know what I’m going to do with the outside, just haven’t started yet. It’s very small. You already know I’ve taken out the wall dividing the kitchen and the living space, so it will be one big room.
But I have to fit in a fridge and stove as well, and I don’t see how I can fit it all in unless I abandon the hutch (never!) so a smaller sink it may have to be.
So many questions that will eventually be resolved.
But the big thing is that I’ve started back in on the project!
Happy Sunday.

I love this, Claudia. What a great sink and I am sorry you don’t think you will be able to use it. Bummer.
I am glad you are feeling better. Enjoy your visit this morning. xo Diana
Claudia says
I’m not giving up yet! But, we’ll see.
Olivia says
I love the hutch. Will it fit catty corner? I can’t tell if there is enough room. The sink is very cottage looking. Do you put a skirt on that type of sink or show off the legs? Glad you and Don are feeling better.
Claudia says
No, the room is too small.
I would probably put a skirt on it, but I’m not sure!
Linda @ A La Carte says
Good to see you back at work on the doll houses. That sink is wonderful but it does take up a lot of room. You will figure it out. Tiger fell and has a fracture of his arm so he is in a cast. He was climbing and had made ‘landing pad’ of blankets and a pillow but missed it he said. Next time a larger landing pad. Kids!
Claudia says
Oh, poor Tiger! I’m so sorry to hear that. xo
Chris K in Wisconsin says
Fun to be back at the dollhouse! Hope you have a lovely time this morning, too. I keep hearing of more and more people who have been out of commission with that cough/cold/flu bug for weeks and weeks. Glad you will be able to see the kids today while they are still around. Hope the rest of your day is a good one!
Claudia says
Yes, I’ve heard that, too. Whatever it was – it has really put people out of commission for a long time. I’m still a bit congested and it’s been 6 weeks!
Donnamae says
Glad to hear they’ve lowered the snow totals. This time of year…any amount of snow is too much.
I keep staring at that picture of your kitchen. Trying to project what I would do if it were mine. I think a skirt would be lovely on the sink. Not seeing a larger view of the kitchen, I’m having a hard time visualizing where to put a stove or fridge. Probably just as well…as I was having too much fun imagining just from the one view. I had the whole sink area decorated…including that cabinet…lol! Seems to me dollhousing could be addictive?
Hope you enjoyed your visit….I’m sure it did a world of good for both of you! ;)
Claudia says
I plan to build an island, but let’s face it – Doubtful whether I could fit both the stove and the fridge there.
The problem really is the hutch, but it has to be there. It’s so English!
Yes….dollhousing is addictive, Donnamae!
jeanie says
I love English cottages and can’t wait to see how this one comes out. It’s going to be terrific, I know!
I wouldn’t abandon the hutch either. An English cottage requires it.
Claudia says
Exactly, Jeanie. I can’t negotiate on that one!
Mary Bond says
It is a good star!
Claudia says
Thank you, Mary!
Marilyn says
Happy that you are getting less snow. We are predicted fro 3 to 5 inches or more. Not looking forward that. Enjoy your visit with Rick and Doug.
Marilyn
Claudia says
We got about 5 inches of heavy wet snow. How did you do?
Janet in Rochester says
Oooh, goody! An English cottage. That’s perfect. Looking forward to seeing the progress – it’s going to be just lovely. And I love those old-timey sinks too. So practical. Porcelain with built-in drainboards. Best type of sink ever. I wish I had one myself. I LOATHE stainless steel sinks with the heat of a millions suns. They NEVER look good unless they’re spotless & dry. The minute you use them, it’s over. My family laughs at me but it’s one topic on which I can go off! If I ever ruled the world, one of my first edicts would be to banish every one of them from the face of the earth. See? Totally irrational. About kitchen sinks!! LOL. Oh well, hope you continue to feel better & get lots of good ideas for your newest “real estate.” Peace.

We have a stainless steel sink and I hate it. Think of a stainless steel sink with hard well water. It’s a recipe for continual frustration!
Give me porcelain any time!
Kay says
Gosh that sink and the hutch almost don’t look like miniatures in that picture. I had a sink like that in my first apartment too (and I also didn’t appreciate it at the time). Our bedroom was a snoore-o-rama last night as well. My husband on one side and our cat in the chair next to the bed on the other side. Stereo. She has had some kind of respiratory thing for the last month resulting in two trips to the vet for antibiotic and steroid shots. Vet says that because she is 14 now, she may not bounce back from this completely. All I know is she snores each time she sleeps now which, with a cat, is many many times during the day.
Claudia says
Praying for your kitty, Kay.
If Don falls asleep sitting on the sofa…he also snores. Grrrrr!
Kay says
Thanks, Claudia. Took Allie to the vet first thing today and, while he thinks it could still be a tumor, we’re treating as a sinus infection right now. So antibiotic and steroid shots. If nothing, the steroid shot should lessen the inflammation and help her breathe easier. He said lots of cats have come in with bloody noses this winter due to the long periods of cold and dry air in the house. I know our furnace has run non-stop some days these past couple months. Crossing our fingers and hoping she improves because if it is a tumor there is nothing they can do.
Claudia says
I tend to get bloody noses in the winter, so I hope that’s all it is for Allie.
Nora Mills says
I love the sink!! But the hutch … well, no debate there. An English cottage is only too perfect!! You’re sure doing the grunt work now. Our storm has been downgraded from 8-12″ to 4-8″ which is better for sure. Hope you and Don stay on the mend.
Claudia says
We got about 5 inches, Nora. It’s heavy and wet, which often happens this time of year. Hope you guys aren’t dealing with too much snow.
kathy in iowa says
hope that forecast for a lower snowfall proves accurate for you!
glad you and don are feeling better and can get out to visit friends and you can work on the dollhouse. it’s going to be great.
i love that style of sink and had such twice when i lived in minneapolis and loved them! where i live now, the city seems practically determined to get rid of allold apartments and that’s a shame … they don’t build things like they used to (quality, charm …), in my opinion. hopefully tuesday’s vote on a one-cent increase in the sales tax will pass as it will lower property taxes, pay for several apartment inspectors – and lengthen hours that libraries are open. all good things!
hope you are having a nice afternoon!

Claudia says
My apartment in Cambridge had lots of windows, a pantry and that sink. I loved it!
AndreaJane says
I just moved my dollhouse onto my work table. I’ve been procrastinating because I don’t even know where to start with the rehab. But I figure if it’s right there in the middle of my room I can’t ignore it any longer!
Can’t wait to see what you do with yours.
Claudia says
That helps. I have to make myself go upstairs to our office and sit there and stare at it. It’s the only way I can get motivated and even then, it’s not always easy!
Nancy Blue Moon says
I’m glad to be able to see your work on a dollhouse again Claudia…I do enjoy when you do this…I hope that your visit was fun!
Claudia says
It was. The baby is absolutely beautiful.
liz says
I so love your dollhouse posts- they have given me the incentive to start one of my own. While looking at miniature sites
I came across a blogger whose work reminded me of your sweet dollhouse – you probably know her work, but just in case – her instagram name is liberybibertyminis.
Claudia says
Yes, I’m very familiar with her. She does such incredible work! She was an early inspiration for me when I started in on the dollhouse. Thanks, Liz!
