I was so tired yesterday that I just couldn’t get up the mental energy to write a post. I flew home on 3 hours sleep and traveling involves not just the flight, but the AirTrain at JFK, then the subway (long trip) into Manhattan, then running to buy a ticket for the bus, then the bus trip home, then a cab ride to my cottage. And I’ll have to do it all over again in a couple of weeks!
I also had to get going early so that I could pick up our mail at the post office, buy some groceries and rake the huge amount of catalpa leaves that were on the ground. Today is rainy, and we’re supposed to get a lot of it over the next 36 hours.
I made sure to find the time yesterday to drive over to Rick and Doug’s house because THEY’RE HERE! Yay! They are exhausted, of course, and they’re far from settled but they are very happy to be here and they’re enthralled with all the deer and the wild turkeys they can see from their sunroom. Their dog, Sam, is also loving it. It’s my first time meeting Sam, who is absolutely adorable. He’s a lover, a face-licker (I couldn’t be happier) and it was so nice to spend some time with a sweet dog. In fact, I’m calling myself his Aunt Claudia. I’m so happy they’re here. Still can’t believe they are only a 5 minute drive from my house.
One of the things I loved about New Orleans was the vintage signage I saw everywhere. I shared some of the photos on Instagram and I’ll share them here today.
They tell a story, don’t they? I love vintage signs.
The show tour officially opened on Friday and the opening went extremely well, according to Don. Jimmy was there and he appeared at the curtain call and they all sang “Margaritaville” together. Don said he heard audience members scream when they saw him. A big old party followed and everyone had a great time. Today? They fly to Houston for a week of shows. Then it will be Chicago.
I slept nine hours last night, which is a rarity. But I really needed it. I’m going to take it easy today.
Happy Sunday.

I figured you were very tired when I didn’t see a post yesterday. Traveling gets to me more than it use to. I am so happy you got a chance to stop by your friends house. I know you are thrilled they are so close by now. Enjoy your restful day. Hugs!

I will. Thanks, Linda!

Glad you made it home to your sweet cottage. I share your love of old signage—one of my very favorite things! Those old neons are really works of art and should be saved. And I love the old typography and fonts used on so many of them. Glad to see that so many remain in that great city.
Claudia says
I agree. They are works of art!

Claudia, Hope you’ll have more time to relax and enjoy Rick, Doug & Sam’s company! I love vintage signs too…the very new pizza place in town just put one up and I’m loving the vintage feel. The eatery is in an old bank and they’ve incorporated the huge vintage safe into the decor.

Cool! It sounds wonderful!

Welcome home! Your trip sounds like it was one you will never forget. It seems the actual traveling portion of any trip is one of the most dreaded things we do. It makes road trips all the more fun ~ although impractical in many cases. So, then we slough through a full day of stuff that must be done for the 2-5 hour plane ride. It really is exhausting.
Hope you have a nice and restful day today. Sounds like the east coast is having some windy wet weather. We had our first freeze last night. Today the leaves look like a snowstorm as they literally cascade down. But…. the sun is shining, so we will smile about that!
Claudia says
I’d take a road trip any day. But this would have been a long road trip! It’s very rainy out (just got soaked from having to go out and clean out some gutters) and we’re expected wind tonight and tomorrow – never my favorite thing.
Donnamae says
I share Chris K’s sentiment…welcome home. And she’s right….after the freeze last night, it is snowing leaves under beautiful blue skies. I’m glad you got to visit your friends yesterday….and it sounds like you made a new four-legged one, too. I know air travel is quicker and sometimes the only way to go….but give me an old -fashioned road trip any day….more room for souvenirs, too! Enjoy your day! ;)

It is hard. I almost considered driving to Chicago, but I didn’t want to add 6 more days onto the 15 I will will spend there.

Glad to hear all is well all around

Thanks, Suzan!

Wow, you MUST have been completely wiped out to have missed a post. You ALWAYS post! I always find it amazing too, but you shouldn’t even think about it. It’s totally allowed. Maybe even recommended once in a while. Health & sanity trump daily posting, right? Loved the vintage signs – glad to still be getting photos from NO. I’m sure you’ve shared only a fraction of what you took, so maybe there’ll be more at some point in the future. I collect vintage advertising in a minor way – minor only because I have a limited budget and even MORE LIMITED SPACE. But I love seeing & admiring it. I think we had a Golden Age of Illustration back in the early 20th century, just like we had Golden Ages of the Movies & TV. So much fun to discover more of it. Well, don’t do TOO much today – ease back into your routine & have some fun with your now close-by friends too! Peace. 🍁

Sometimes I just don’t have the energy – yesterday was one of those days. Plus, I didn’t have the time to get it done before the deadline.

Glad to know that you are safely home and resting a bit….I’m also glad that Rick and Doug and Sam of course are now in their new home and enjoying it!…A happy welcome to them all!…I do believe that New Orleans was my favorite place to visit with you Claudia….so far that is….I think it’s because they kept the old and didn’t modernize…it would be a shame if they changed such a magical place…May it forever stay the same!….You enjoy your day relaxing…and I must say one more time…thank you for sharing New Orleans…it was amazing!
Claudia says
Well, I haven’t truly relaxed as it’s raining hard and I had to go out there and clear some gutters. Yuck.
Nancy Blue Moon says
On that’s just you Claudia…you say you’re going to take it easy and then you see something that needs doing and you can’t relax until it’s done!…lol
Claudia says
No hesitation – it had to be done – otherwise our gutters leak into the house (they’ve done that over the area where the stove is) Not letting that happen again.

You can. But it’s more difficult when it’s not a round trip on the same day and frankly, I didn’t want or have the time for the hassle.

Glad you’re home safe and sound. Just reading about the your travels made me tired! I know you have a lot of raking to do, but hope you’re taking rest breaks. I know you’re excited to have your friends close-by. Bonus that they have a sweet doggie! :-)

Such a sweet boy. I have, of course, volunteered to take care of him if they need to be gone for a day or two.
