We’re very close to the day we move into the Broadhurst Theater on Broadway. I was working under the assumption that run-throughs would occur on Monday – Wednesday next week, giving me another four days or so until I had to work again. Imagine my surprise when I got an email on Wednesday evening asking if I could be there on Thursday for a run-through! Normally, this wouldn’t phase me, but I’m still battling the tail end of this illness, so I was thrown.
There I was, pulling out the laptop at 8:30 pm in order to write yesterday’s book review which had long been scheduled for that date. All night long, we had very high winds. Non-stop. So I had trouble sleeping – I might as well be honest – I didn’t sleep. (The poor catalpa lost even more limbs.)
I don’t know what it is about this show, but it’s sure pushed my sleep and health buttons. Anyway, it was a great day in the rehearsal hall with the first run-through. Oh heavens, it’s wonderful! There have been lots of changes made since Hartford – all for the better – and it’s truly better-than-ever. I cannot wait to see it onstage. Another run-through tomorrow and at least one more next week.
Came home on the bus, slept a little, Don picked me up at the bus station, we ate a late dinner and then I proceeded to sleep for 10 hours. I’m groggy this morning, but very grateful for an uninterrupted night of sleep.
That poster was facing me as I rode Metro-North into Manhattan.
Oh, and I ran outside at 10 pm to cover a daylily that had been coming out of the ground during our unseasonably warm temps with leaves/mulch, since it was going down to the low twenties last night.
Today? Rest.
The other day when I had to drive Don to the bus station, I threw caution to the winds and drove to the bookstore as well. A call to B & N told me that they had a copy of Rules of Civility on the shelf, so I had them hold it for me. I ran in and out quickly, but I did succumb to this gorgeous quarterly publication – it’s new, this is the first one. It has no advertising, so it’s expensive. But it’s so beautifully done and I needed some visual inspiration. Dang it – I deserved a treat! At least, that’s how I justified the whole thing. Quiltfolk comes out of the Pacific Northwest. It’s full of beautifully photographed articles about quilters, quilt shops, and designers – sort of in the Somerset magazine mode.
It’s really neat. I’m going to slowly explore it today.
Tomorrow – another run-through.
Happy Friday.

I heard one of the songs from Anastasia and I’m in love. I wish I could see this show. I am glad you are feeling better but rest up today for sure. I am home after two days of babysitting and I’m tired I must admit. Resting here as well. Trying to finish a book so I can start the next Karin Slaughter book I just got from the library. The sun is shining but it’s cool outside. Great weather to snuggle on the couch and read. Hugs!
Claudia says
Wait til you hear them all, Linda! Amazing.
I’m completely done in by yesterday so I’m taking it easy. I have no choice!

Busy…busy! Glad you get a day of rest! That poor catalpa tree….I feel your pain. Nothing much on the agenda here…it’s cold, and two inches of snow is forecasted for tonight, before it hits the 50’s tomorrow. Mother Nature is rather mixed up in my opinion. My irises are coming up…and it got down to 11 last night. I totally forgot about them til you mentioned your day lily…oops. Enjoy your day…and your magazine. The cover is gorgeous! ;)
Claudia says
Mother Nature is really mixed up!

I think I caught your “cold” through the internet!!! Could be the Cedar Trees in my back yard, or the Pear Trees in the front yard making me sneeze, sneeze, sneeze!!! Can you imagine how different your east coast living is compared to south central OK!!! Very. Yet we probably have more in common than not. I am just a retired college professor with 5 grandkids watching them play in basketball tournaments, and show their pigs! Have a great weekend and feel better soon. Love, Becky
Claudia says
More than a cold, I fear! More like a virus with a chest cold mixed in. So nice to hear from you, Becky!

It is so wonderful to feel you excitement for this show, shot through all of the lines of your email. Even battling sleep-deprivation and the tail-end of your illness, there is such joyful anticipation for the show—makes it come alive for us as well. I wish you well in the last days of working with the actors.
It’s a good thing that climate change is a Chinese hoax, right? Otherwise, I would be concerned about the snow on the ground just two days after we hit 70 degrees in late-Feb. Urgh! Our poor, poor planet…
I hope you love “Civility” After devouring “Gentleman from Moscow”, I ran out to pick up that book. What lovely, lovely storytelling. Enjoy!
And sleep and feel better and rested and well.
Peace,
Leslie P.

I am completely exhausted today, so I’m laying low, as I have to go back in tomorrow. I’m looking forward to starting Civility – I read about 5 pages last night before I conked out!
Mary says
I agree with Becky I too caught your cold! It must have made you smile to be sitting in from of poster. Did you want to point and say ‘ hey look’ to other riders. Yesterday here in RI we just had the awful winds, my shutters were rattling very loudly, ( thinking of Key Largo). Wait, no Bogart though, darn. I often treat myself, fortunately that is what me Social Security money is for anyway. I could never get the hang of quilting, my Mom quilted into her 90’s. We all have pillows and pot holders to remember her. Take care, have a good weekend.
Claudia says
The winds were terrible here! That has happened two weeks in a row, though this week was worse. Lots of trees down around here.

I’m glad that you are excited by Anastasia, despite being very tired. A 10-hour sleep after a night of insomnia can certainly make a person groggy…too little sleep, too much sleep, need to find a happy medium. I must look for Quiltfolk! Haha, thanks for enabling me!
Claudia says
I need to feel well! A happy medium would be most welcome, Wendy!
WENDY REYNOLDS says
Hi, Claudia–do you think the posters for Anastasia might be available online for purchase at some point? I’m redoing my office, and I think it would be great above my desk!
Hope you’re feeling better!
Claudia says
I have no idea, Wendy! You’ll just have to keep an eye out for them. They are beautiful, aren’t they?
Marilyn says
Enjoy your new magazine. I love to buy and select magazines. Right now I am into vintage and Victorian magazines.

Claudia says
Depends on my mood, but sometimes a magazine is just the ticket for relaxation!
Vicki says
You are one busy gal. I’m glad you got in a good sleep; very healing when on the mend. Also glad Don is still there to help with things.
How exciting to be associated with a Broadway show!
Claudia says
It is exciting. I’m just a little part of it but it’s fun.
Nancy Blue Moon says
My goodness Claudia..I’m beginning to wonder if you’re ever going to fully shake off this bug you have..I am certainly glad mine didn’t hang on this long! Take care my friend..
Claudia says
You’re the exception, Nancy. Most people I know who have had this bug have been dealing with it for at least two weeks or longer.
