What an insane week of scorching heat and humidity. It finally kind of broke yesterday – but it was still humid – and today, it’s cool and rainy. What a welcome relief! I’m still feeling under the weather, unfortunately. Crossing my fingers that I’m back to normal soon.
Even though the humidity was still strong, the lower temperature allowed me to venture upstairs to the studio and work on the dollhouse. I opened the window and turned on the box fan and set to work. I did some more prep painting in the stairway areas, and I redid the wallpaper in the kitchen. It was just as difficult as the last time, but, in the end, it will be fine.
Normally, I wouldn’t place a stove in front of a kitchen window, but in this case, I think I will. It is the star of the kitchen. Placing it on the wall to the right would be okay, but you’d only see it in profile. Though I try to make this little world as realistic as possible, sometimes you have to allow some artistic license! Big Stella is the star of our kitchen and I firmly believe Mini Stella should be the star of this kitchen.
Don asked me if I had a name for the Beacon Hill. The answer was no. Nothing has come to mind so far and since I have a long way to go, I’ve got time. Hopefully, her personality will shine through and I’ll just know.
Still have to do baseboards but I have to hold off until I am clear on the placement of a refrigerator (if I get one, I may stick with the smaller cupboard turned refrigerator under the sink) and/or hutch.
Today, I’m going to play with wallpaper and the front entrance/hallway. Wish me luck.
We had a lovely anniversary on Saturday. Low-key of course. Indoors, of course, because it was so hot outside. We reminisced about the day we met, which led to conversations about how fast 32 years have gone by. So grateful for that day spent with my friends from the Old Globe at the beach. Don and I joke about the guacamole I made that day for the party. It was the first and only time I made guacamole. We agreed that if he thought, “And she makes guacamole, too!” he was in for a big disappointment in the future.

When my boyfriend (and later husband) and I were dating, I cooked him chicken mushroom crepes at least three times. I was proud to have learned how to cook them and he ate a lot. Years later, he told me he didn’t like crepes and ate them to avoid hurting my feelings. And then there was the time I found at least two baggies of brownies baked by me stuffed into the back of his Mom’s freezer. Apparently, he didn’t like brownies either. But I’m
Pretty resilient, so I just mastered the dishes he did enjoy eating and reintroduced crepes and brownies when our children got older…they love them.

heard fireworks here for the last three nights, with one night cut short (around 1 am) by lots of rain (maybe three inches over two nights … imagine my happiness)! hope to sleep better tonight.

We had fireworks to deal with a few days as well, as various towns had their own celebrations. In the meantime, several dogs were missing because they ran off in fear. Wildlife is frightened. Do we really need them?

agree with you about fireworks … not needed! they are so scary for pets and wildlife, upset lots of people, hurt some other people and the environment …
i wouldn’t miss them if fireworks went away, but of course they’re not leaving. just a couple years ago, our governor unfortunately made it legal for citizens to shoot off fireworks. that’s supposed to be limited to a couple days around the fourth (and maybe new year’s eve) and happen only at the person’s own home, but we know it doesn’t often happen like it’s supposed to. they are often set off right next door to *any* place and that’s not safe or kind, in my opinion. ugh.

Good Morning Claudia! Mini Stella looks right “at home” where you have placed her. We have gotten so used to the completely unified design of “built in” kitchens, but it wasn’t always like that at all. That idea didn’t really start until the 1920’s and gained ground steadily especially in newer housing, but most older homes just put the “new-fangled” appliances wherever they would fit in the room, just like you have here with Stella. I don’t think I have ever lived in a home with a completely modern built in kitchen! On our farm we heated and cooked with (antique) woodstoves when I was young…. and later my VT farmhouse had an AGA … yes , the real thing inherited from my husband’s family who in their “old age” needed a more simple method of cooking. In one of our kitchens we had the stove under a window just like Stella… because that was where it fit best! I am glad the wall paper went on without flaws this time. And I am Loving this kitchen so much…. it makes me wish for a min Stella of my own! Now I really want to see what you do with that complicated hallway! :)
I like kitchens that don’t look built in. A running theme through my dollhouses. And in my own house as well!

I love the wallpaper and the mini Stella is a star for sure. I had a liver biopsy yesterday and hope that is the last of the medical procedures for awhile. It will be a bit before I get results but I’m confident all will be well. Stay cool and rest!
